Arctic Cat Stator Cover

How to remove the stator cover from a 2005 Arctic Cat Atv 400 Automatic not if but when the stator magnets fail. Don't know why this was not a recall on the part of Arctic Cat. If it hasn't been done on your bike then do it before you get stranded in the woods like I did.

Thanks for the video. I just picked up the same machine and need to do this to get it running. Any idea where to source new drive axles for it? Thanks

Really can't help you there. I'm not a small engine mechanic and this was a 'one-of' situation for me. I usually just google the part; then try ebay, and I also try the local small engine shops that repair atvs: then go with the least expensive. Sometimes the local classifieds (recreation vehicles/atvs/parts) you might hit on someone selling parts to fit. A lot of the suzuki atv parts are interchangeable but not always. Good luck on the fix.

can you tell me where the washers go on the gears inside the stator cover? took my cover off and the washers fell off before i could take a good look at the inside.

Sorry can't help you there. I am not an engine mechanic and this was a one-of repair for me over 3 years ago. Anything I tell you at this point would be a pure guess. Try watching the RMstator video carefully in hi-def and you might catch it. Sometimes if you think about it carefully enough and understand the purpose of the washers then where they go might make sense to you. Usually wherever two parts move in relation to each other the washer helps bridge that gap and lessen any wear or binding up.

Could this be my problem? I have a 2003 250 Arctic cat. It starts and idles great but when you accelerate it bogs down and backfires. Ive cleaned carb and gas tank. Same thing

Not sure as I am not a trained small engine mechanic. If it idles fine I wouldn't suspect the same problem. The carb has an idle circuit; which in your case seems it is not blocked and working fine. When the magnets came off my bike it would not start at all but just crank over. It sounds like you have a problem with the fuel circuit which cuts in above idle. This can be anything from an air-leak, the diaphragm of the cv-needle could have a pinhole, to a blocked fuel passage or main jet issue. Could also be a weak spark (old plug) which allows the bike to work ok at idle but bog down under load. But my best guess is still a fuel delivery issue in the carb.

@ 1965 Chevy. Did you ever resolve your problem? I'm having same problem now with AC 500. Although I'm pretty sure stator is gone on mine. (Shuts off when battery disconnected) It idles great with battery and bogs down with acceleration. backfires.

I did find that some of the gears stuck to the case so I had to remove them from the case cover and place them back on the engine side. When I removed the cover in the video you can see some of the gears came off with the cover. So remove them from the cover and put them back on the engine side first so the gears are already meshed together. Other than that it should be a matter of lining things up to fit over the shafts for the gears and push it on.
