No beer to review this week, but let's take a look at how to install a reverse osmosis system under a sink.

Using this will mean that we don't have to keep moving the filter that we currently own from one house to the other every time we want to make beer. Overall it was a pretty simple process to get it installed and I probably could have got it done in about 30 minutes if I wasn't filming.

    Espresso, for 10 gallons (45.4609L) (6.82g): 4.773 g MgSO4 (105*45.4609) 1.364 g Ca citrate (30*45.4609) 0.682 g K bicarb (15*45.4609) Regular filter coffee, for ten gallons- 110mg of magnesium sulfate, 30mg calcium citrate and 10mg of sodium chloride.

    I nearly got one of these but the amount of waste and time taken put me off. Luckily, as you mentioned, I learned about Spotless Water and even luckier there is one about a 5-10 min drive away! I'd also agree, other than temperature control, this is the 2nd best change I've made to my brewing, it really makes a difference. So far I've just profiled the water according to the Grainfather app, but I must have done at least a half a dozen brews with RO water as the based and they've all been better for it.

    Thanks for watching Neil. I know it’s crazy the difference it makes, but then when you think about it water is the main ingredient. That’s pretty sweet you can just pick up spotless water so easily

    For how cheap they are (and easy to use), it's odd to me it's not ubiquitous. I have installed five or so where I've lived because I like them for drinking. And weighing out the salts is easy. There are a few different fittings for the RO out line. The last one I got is stainless steel. It shuts off when water hits the bottom of it. So I can clamp the hose so that it's the right depth for how much water I want. I use the clamp for my lid.

    I generally get good results using our tap-water here in Leicestershire. I have wondered if it would benefit further from purer water with no chlorination. Trouble is, I often brew 40 to 80 pints at a time, so I’m wondering if it would be impractical, time-wise, to filter the water bearing in mind the volumes I use. I do throw in 4 x Campden tablets in the initial brew, per 40 pints.

    So with the filter I use hooked up to the mains water, I get an output of about 9L per hour. I'm brewing on a GF30 so to get enough I'd be looking at just over 3 hours to filter enough water for a batch. No big deal really! Thanks for watching.

    Cheers Tim. To be fair, we already filter and profile the water for about 90% of the brews that we make. This was just a video to show how to install the filter if you get one yourself.

    I have a pressure tank so I get about 2.5 gallons in a few minutes, then it slows down for the remainder of the water I need.

    You said you used to do it outside, was that from the outside tap? Can I safely rig one of these up to the outside tap for human consumption once filtered?

    Personally I would drink the water from my outside tap anyway. It’s the same water that comes out of my inside tap….but it’s outside. But yeah, if you had doubts you should be fine after using one of these.

    It's an easy way to attach one. Definitely fine. I'd add an extra camper carbon water filter. If you're considered, get a hose made for water for human consumption. Check a camping store.
