How to Install 2JZ Piston Rings

This video goes into detail about how to install new NPR piston rings on 2JZ pistons. This is the second "subplot" video of my series where I document how to swap a 2JZ into a 350z from start to finish, covering all the steps, parts, costs, and headaches involved in the project. I hope you enjoy!

Thank you! I have heard of them, but haven’t looked into them much to figure out what they are. Is it a car show?

@@JacobRosproy Absolutely! It originally was older model cars from the 40's and up but over the last couple years it turned into modded cars, lifted trucks and alot of bs sadly. But it's still a cool community in Pigeon Forge, TN

Ok so I’ve seen another guy front real street performance doing piston rings and he ended up doing the cast ring on the bottom and steel one on top so 2n would be on the top what’s the difference

Each ring has a specific shape to it and a specific purpose. They’re both compression rings but one is more of a compressor and the other functions as both a compressor and also an oil squeegee of sorts. The top ring does the majority of sealing off the compression chamber, and the bottom is the backup. It’s job is to help the top ring maintain compression (or relieve it depending on the engine) but also keep oil from getting into the compression chamber. The bottom ring is partly designed to scrape oil back off the cylinder walls when the piston is moving downward. You could probably benefit from looking up “piston ring shapes” and it will show you a bunch of different designs and explain their exact purpose. Now as for the installation- it does make a difference. The 1997 Toyota Supra Service Manual specifies which ring goes in which order so that the rings can do exactly as they’re supposed to. No.1 is the top. No.2 is the middle. The bottom is the is the oil ring (side rail and expander). Hope that clears it up! I’ve got pictures from the manual if you need to see those too!
