How to Impress in an Interview - Avoid This Common Mistake! | Bite Sized Tips |

So you got the interview… but now what?
How do you impress enough to actually get the job?
Performing well in your interview is ESSENTIAL if you want to be considered for the role.
The BIGGEST mistake people make when it comes to interviews is that they focus too much on themselves… but in an interview it’s not really about you, it’s about what the company you’re interviewing for WANTS IN YOU.
In this short video, I share three things to remember when it comes to the interview, to make sure you impress the interviewing panel enough to get the job.
1. Stand out from others by preparing specific examples that highlight your strengths and achievements.
2. Ask insightful questions to keep the interview flowing and make it seem more organic.
3. Interview them. Have some questions up your sleeve that you can ask, about the culture, challenges or anything else important to you.
What’s your favourite interview tip? Share it with me in the comments!
And good luck with your next interview!

Good advice, not just for interviews, but about life in general too - we always think everything is about us! It's so much easier when you realise everybody is the star of their own movie, and life works better if we pan out to see the bigger picture, of which we are a part.

I take hundreds of interviews every year to select for so many positions in our company. We in our panel dont like it when someone starts interviewing our company during the conversation,, we give separate time to every candidate after our questions are over, asking, ' our questions are over you can ask anything if you want to'. And then actual interview starts. Because results are more depended on questions they ask, It gives us clear idea the actual mental state and priorities in a candidate's mind. Ofcourse their answers play an important role in the judgement but questions they ask gives us what are they looking for in our company. Academic capabilities plays very nominal role in the result of an interview. So my advice is wait for right moment to ask questions.

Yeah, I have experienced that. The interview almost ends badly for the applicant if the interviewer themselves have to ask, "Do you have any questions?". Then if the interviewee says, "No." That's almost like the final nail in the coffin. Then the interviewer usually say, "We will let you know if you are selected." That's what an interviewer usually says here in India, if you are rejected or if they are not yet sure about you.

@@tushar4652 If you have no questions to ask to the interviewer, then the interviewer will think that you are there just to get the job, but you aren't curious about the job that you are attending the interview for. Also the interviewer may think that you are not curious about the company also. So, you should just ask some questions pertaining to the actual work you will do in the company, like say, if you are a programmer or web developer, ask what and what kind of projects are going on in the company. Ask, how many teams are there working on any given project, and how many employees per team? Basically just be genuinely curious about the company and the job position that you are interviewing for, questions will naturally come into your mind.

What if its a structured interview, like a STAR where they are more interested in how you answer the question then the actual content. And no chances for you to ask questions?

Arash Sh lol ... yup, companies want to hire a person to fill a position with minimum to no training and they HAVE TO "fit in" into the group, otherwise you're out.

Well no, the company doesnt want to hire a nutcase, you shouldnt want to work at a job that doesnt fit your needs (not wants, but things like transportation being too much, values of company, salary, what you're expected to do, etc)

It’s insane now much this has helped me refocus for my interview tomorrow, sometimes the only thing that messes it up is focusing too much on yourself during an opportunity for you to question them and see if it would actually be beneficial for yourself!

It's a whole game though. They are faking how good their company and job is and then you have to tell them what they want to hear and push those buttons they want to hear. They are robots and they have narrow minds and narrow methods in assessing people. They don't like multi skilled people and they don't like clever people off the estates or blocks on government assistance. Also tell people that the good jobs are all ring fenced for private school people. When are you people going to be totally honest? Yes you are telling us the game but you are not telling us the truth

Absolutely right. If the candidate is competent enough n confident, he can pose questions to the interviewer about the company's performance n progress.
