    Wow, I should have watched this before I planted my seeds. I soaked them for 24 hours then put them in a little tray with 50% peralite 50% soil never thought about sterilizing it. Then stuck the little tray into a ziploc bag. I have some that have germinated..Now I'm worried they're going to get moldy. UGH....at least I found you. Thanks for all the information.

    I only grow adenium successfully from cuttings. Then one of my plant developped a pod and I left it there. After a couple of months, the pod dried up and cracked, the seeds developped tiny long tentacles at each side and started to fly away. I caught some of them and placed them on the pots. I hope they will germinate. Thanks for the video.

    Just want to say thanks for this video, a great "what to expect video" I live in zone 9, sowed 12 seeds on 11/20/20 and all 12 are tall and growing beautifully in just 15 days. One is entirely pink where all the other ones look just like yours. I do have them individually in 2 in pots so if they all survive through this winter I can attend to their needs individually. I already have to top dress to keep them from flopping because I think they are stretching. I am taking the tray out to natural morning sunlight since they are quite large now even though everyone says indirect sunlight only. Anyways just want to share my experience in case it will help some one on this topic. I have about 3 mos experience w/succulents so that's saying alot about how fun and rewarding this can be for anyone! Thanks again for sharing this video of your experience!

    I grew my adenium from seeds as well and it’s now a month old, how come the caudex is thicker like yours? Do I need to put some fertilizer too?

  • @TobyJin

    @TobyJin

    3 жыл бұрын

    Different types of Adeniums will have different caudex sizes, I did not add extra fertiliser to my seedlings in the video. The batch I sowed in the video is a couple of months younger than the other ones you see which is why the caudex is larger on those.

    I know when they are still seedlings you need to keep the soil moist but at what point do you back off on watering and keeping moist? I have seedling that are a couple months old that are browning and I’m wondering if it’s due to overwatering?

  • @TobyJin

    @TobyJin

    Ай бұрын

    Initially, I just let the soil dry naturally as the seedlings don't use that much water anyways, and once the soil dries out I then water them. If they are browning, it's most likely due to fungal issues. Remove those seedlings and applying systemic fungicide should do the trick to keeping the rest healthy.

  • @TobyJin

    @TobyJin

    I put these seedling in part shade, the same conditions that I grow my Gasterias. I will have a video soon showing what happened to some of these coming soon. Basically, the ones that I put in full sun after just 1 season of growth didn't seem to enjoy it as the growth wasn't that good and on some of them, the caudex got a bit damaged in the hottest days of summer. The ones in part shade did much better as they only get a couple of hours of direct sun a day. So I would say after germination, keep your seedlings in part shade for around 2 years before slowly acclimatising them to full sun if you can. I haven't tried acclimatising them in the first year of growth, so I think when they are around 3 years old, you can put them in full sun.
