A really informative video - definitely has given me confidence in trying out root training for my own young adenium plants. Before now I had only seen people using specialist fungicide powders to apply to the cut caudex, so to see that plain cinnamon works too is great. Thanks!

I know some people are against using cinnamon, but I find it works really well for me.

Good video! I want to start developing my radial roots coming spring. You said you cut one clean vs more of a bevel on the others, which do you recommend?

I think any will be fine as the result was pretty much the same for each method.

This is the first time I heard of a caudex and its training. I only have 2 pots of adenium from my late mum and that was the one that I tried to plant from its cuttings. Now I know what to do to get the caudex bigger. Mine from cuttings was long and lean smh. The bigger caudex makes better adenium bonsai. Thanks for the video 👍

It will take some years to fatten the caudex/stem up but when you develop radial roots instead of a single, large, fat taproot, the process should speed up slightly.

Toby, can I ask a question? I have 1 surviving seedling from 10 planted seeds. It is 48 days old, with 4 leaves. These seeds were planted in peat. I can't seem to move this seedling along? Can I fertilise it at all. It is kept in shade outside. I live in Brisbane. I would like to send a photo of it?

It wouldn’t hurt to fertilise slightly, you can send a photo to me at this address: Jin_Toby@outlook.com

I would wait for at least 1 full growing season before I repot the seedlings, unless there's a health reason on why they need to be repotted.

OMG: Use a Sharp Tool to Cut! A dull scissor won’t cut it.

I usually sharpen my cutting tools once before every growing season but it's probably that I just use them a lot and they become dull very quickly.

No, unfortunately I didn't record an update of them this season. I may do a video on them next season as I haven't done an update on my Adeniums in a while.
