Love it! i hope there was some helpful information!
Thanks for your instructions, I have a few Adeniums here in central Australia. Last winter we had a couple of rare bad frosts which damaged the plants, I should have moved them inside but frosts are fairly rare here. Anyway I used a clean sharp blade and removed the damaged branches before the rot set in. Thankfully the plants are recovering nicely and hopefully will survive ok. Last summer there were a few seed pods but I lost most of the seeds when the pods opened and the seeds blew away, this year I will try and save the seeds and plant them.

I have never grown them from seed before but from what I understand they take pretty well. best of luck!!
WOW so informative! I was gifted a desert rose a couple of years ago and I had no clue to how to care for her aside from watering when the soil was dry. Obviously very new to plant care. I mean she’s still alive so i wasn’t scrambling to find videos 101 haha I was very shocked to see you prune so aggressively and was cringing the entire time as i watched you but I now understand the purpose. She does have thinner, more delicate branches so hopefully by Aug/Sep (in LA) I can prune so she can grow back bolder. Thanks for giving me the knowledge & confidence! Hope to see some follow-up videos of those in this video.

Gonna be useful on my journey starting my Desert Rose nursery and growing from Seed. From my plant I got as a gift several years ago, I grew a seed pod and harvested the seeds. They were surprising easy to germinate. The trick was catching the seed pods before they exploded outside. I cut them off when they were turning brown and put inside a container. Glad I did. It was almost like a large milkweed blew up. I pulled the large fluff off the end and just pressed into regular garden soil in a seed tray. After a good watering, I put in a large, clear bag to keep moist and in a short time, there were little plants popping up.
Love all your videos. Great advice.

No problem!
I've had Adeniums for 30 years now. I've learned some things. Mine come indoors as soon as nights get 50 to 45. Sometimes during early fall I set them out in the day and in the garage at night. At some point I give up on warm weather and put them in a corner of my office by mid November. I shut the water off except for one or two light drinks. They lose all their leaves sitting there in very low light. Sometime usually in Mar I will notice some tiny buds breaking and give them a decent drink. We don't get warm here until mid Apr or later, so I play a delay game. Just enough water to keep things moving along slowly until they can go outside in mid May keeping in mind late frosts. Once they go out, I found as you state, they can take plenty of water. That surprised me Since they naturally live in nutrient poor soils, I have avoided fertilizing them. That is going to change. I have never pruned mine and my present two are quite leggy. I never knew how or whether the time was right. Now they are going to the butcher shop as soon as flowering is over. 45 years ago I was a plant propagator in charge of rooting 100000s of cuttings a year. It got burned into my brain then, that growing plants is to a large part about timing is everything. You just filled me in on the timing pieces I was missing that will make my wonderful Adeniums even greater. Thank you. Mine are good right now, 5" caudex and 24" tall. But they could be a lot fuller. Now I know how to get there. I might send some before and afters if things turn out right.

Devin, I love how your videos are so easy to understand and follow. I am a beginner at growing plants. I have a desert rose that has finally started blooming. It’s beautiful! How often do I water it while it is blooming? I live in zone 9a, Jax, Fl. It’s very hot and humid. We are in the 90’s everyday in the summer months. Should I leave it out in the hot, direct sun all day? I left my plants for 5 days to go camping. I returned and my desert rose is still blooming but a lot of the leaves have tuned yellow! It didn’t get any water while I was gone. What happened and how can I fix these? Thank you for your help.
@plantvibrations
Жыл бұрын
Sometimes they’ll drop leaves while in bloom simply due to available nutrients being used on flower formation, it’s normal. In your region you can continue to water very regularly all summer and leave in the sun
Devin, a video that focuses on adenium flowering would be great. Your “northern” perspective is helpful (I’m in Niagara). My adenium are 6 years old, look great and haven’t flowered. I will try the winter stressing.
