Honestly this reminds me of the JP Morgan quote: "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." The black card isn't something you "ask" for; it's just something that you "get" bc of your lifestyle.

Just changed over from centurion (Japan) to Plat. Wasn’t worth it anymore since I am not using the card that often and the fees went through the roof. Overall I thought it was more for bragging rights than an actual benefit and with the new fees and my age I thought I don’t need the bragging anymore. Happy with the plat.
Well done in every respect ! Outstanding on every level !
🐎 It was so interesting to learn about the history of this card. Thank you for taking the time to do all of that research!
Glad I found your channel. Thanks!
Thumbs up and subbed bc data is awesome and big props for all the research
Great video! Learned a lot
🐴 … thanks for another insightful breakdown 🎉
This was the Best informational vid I seen on the AMCC since I started to watch vids on them. This video has poke on ideas I had about getting the card. I think my income and credit score and history play a big role I also always believed they want people who shop and travel and certain places. Like the silent wealth people. People who go to High to Ultra high wealth places that are not widely know and shop at Upper end Ultra luxury shops which your retailer pyramid seems to be right on the money. I do think Goyard goes in the top part. Where you live was not something I thought about but makes since. Brand ambassador also makes sense. Again wonderful vid from a person who does not own the card.

I like the extensive research you did on the data points. 🐴🐎
Great vlog on this interesting topic 🐎
I think they can definitely get more aggressive with spend requirements, similar to how Ambassador status at Marriott went from $20k to $23k requirement, and how it's harder to find table games with lower minimum bets. House rules and if they need to 're-fine' their clientele, they can definitely adjust when they seem fit 🐎🐎🐎

🐎 Hey Sebby! You should do a video on the Amex Platinum (and Centurion) Concierge requests, what are some of the outlandish requests and how much these requests cost. One I remember reading about was a customer wanted some sand from the Dead Sea for his son’s school project and the time stipulation required the Amex employee to hop on a private jet to get to the Dead Sea and fly it back to I think Europe where the customer was based.
I would be curious to see if Amex introduces a card in between the Plat and Centurion. I know there was some talk precovid about maybe a $1500 AF card, if this hypothetical card was invite only and maybe offered Delta Silver, Hilton Diamond, Marriott Platinum along with credits like $300 Airline, $300 FHR, TSA, CLEAR. Sure it's a coupon book but I think there could be a market for HENRYs (high earners, not rich yet) in non target cities like the midwest with remote work taking off. 🐎

Just saw this video on my feed. Loved the insights. In 2018 I moved to DC area and was invited to apply for Platinum with no initiation fee and an introductory offer to offset the annual fee. I found it strange because I was relatively low net worth and had recently graduated college making about an average salary for my age. I wonder what that push for pre-approved platinum meant for dilution of the centurion requirements even further.
🐎Sebby, great video man! I’m super happy with our Gold Amex, but would be curious if there’s another option that’s competitive with their 4x points on domestic grocery & restaurants…do you have a video on your channel that might discuss this topic? If not, what do you think is a good competitor to the Gold Amex? Chase Saphire?
The Centurion card is clearly the Birkin Bag of cards. It seems like Amex likely cares more about the total numbers of cards in circulation than anything else. So, yes, it seems likely that they adjust for inflation and probably slightly for economic downturns too.
🐎 I love informative videos about Amex. Please keep this type of data/ history based content coming.
🐎 I like the subtle showing that you have the brands Amex likes.
by far the best and in depth video on the centurion card I found
Back in 2005 I used to work at restaurant in wealthy suburbs of Boston. Some customers had it then and they had no clue it was an exclusive card
Thumbs up for the research.
🏇 Man, Cesar needs to get the new card design... embossed numbers on the Black Card feels like a sin 🤣 Although this is likely not a card I'll ever get, it's still really interesting to learn more about. I'll never pass up on a video about it, but out of all that I've seen, this one is one of the most informational, so great work Sebby!

🐎 I think the interesting point to remember is - do you need it? Even if you did get the tap on the shoulder for the invite and paid to get it, now what? Does the benefits actually translate to useful personal benefits. I have a mix of personal and business AMEX card spending probably just shy of the requirements but it’s mostly business operations related - I’m not spending $20k/night to stay in an international resort. Cool to know more details about it, but the Platinum and Gold card mix will suit me just fine for the foreseeable future. Interesting video!

🐎 I’ve had it for 20 yrs. Turned it down the first time I was invited. I needed something concierge (ish) and called them one day about a month after. Had the card in hand two days later The service when you call is the reason it’s worth the spend. No holding, no bs, just amazing service. Worth it in the long haul.

Yes, had the business Centurion for a long time...didn't think I was getting the value from it so went back to the Platinum, then was invited for the personal Centurion which I accepted and really like many of the perks.....my favorite is no lines and always a guaranteed seat in the Centurion Lounge at airports, can't tell you how many times I have been at the airport and a flight is delayed for some reason and the terminal is extremely busy with no where to sit, let alone eat and drink and be productive. This perk is a must for me and great value. Excellent video. Thanks!

🐎Hey Sebby, would love your advice! Business owner here - I've just started making the move into the Chase umbrella. Previously, my BofA AA card was the daily personal driver, and Barclays Hawaiian Airlines Business card was the daily business driver. I've made the decision to move everything to Chase. I've had the Sapphire Preferred card for almost 5 years now, but it has sat in my night stand to act as an emergency card. So I'll start using that as my everyday personal, and then I applied for and got the Ink Unlimited for the everyday business card. My goals are related to value of redemption. I like the idea of being able to apply points/miles to more than one thing, travel being at the top of that list, compared to only either AA or HA. My question for you is, which should I get next? Ink Cash? Or Ink Preferred? I am the type of guy who would go to Staples and buy a bunch of Visa Gift cards (at 5x for the first $25k annually) and just make regular purchases with that, just to take advantage of the 5x multiplier. Any advice would be great! Cheers!
Interesting data points! 🏇
🐴- thanks for the vid :)
It’s not surprising, but good to know 🐎 mmm I feel like because of inflation, they’ll possibly get stricter on invites & add spending requirements.
I got some stock in Amex last year and it is steadily going up up up. I have them both in a mutual fund and stand alone. Good investment.
🐎 your content rocks
🐎 excellent vid Sebbe. I have been CSR holder for many years. I was thinking of getting the AMEX platinum. I travel for personal vacations. Do you think that’s worth it?
I have reserve is it better to get Amex platinum or gold or reserve is fine ? What is credit line on gold and platinum cards thx excellent information!!! Do you have one on these cards or recommend something else
Hey Sebby, so i have a few questions on business credit cards before i decide to get one. i have done doordash and grocery delivery here and there the past 2 years just for some extra cash. i only made like $4000 in between both. im looking to still do it throughout this year making maybe like $5000. would it be a good idea to get one in my situation. i currently have the chase freedom, freedom unlimited, and sapphire preferred. i also seen the ink unlimited has a 15month 0% and i was gonna take advantage of that to invest in a laptop. could i also use that business card on gas and oil changes etc since im using my personal vehicle to do doordash? and should i still get one even if i dont really plan on having my own business and just planning to do doordash here and there ?
Hmm, I guess I should avoid using my Amex cards at Dollar Tree and McDonalds so they don’t think I’m poor and exclude me from other cards.

@@AskSebby That's crazy. God forbid you dont drink champagne, Jimmie walker and eat caviar, lobster or kobe beef burgers daily. I just wouldn't want it because why would I want to shell out 10,000 grand in fees before I even get to use it, much less spend that required amount of money just to have those benefits. The one scenario it would e worth it is ff I was running a multimillion dollar business in which case I would definitely hook up this card for all of it's expenses in which case it can work in you favor.
🐎 Question, I’m new to AMEX, got a gold last year, half way spent 75k, this year is almost triple. I then got an upgrade notice for Plat. I instead decided to not upgrade but instead flat out get the Plat so I have gold and Plat. I heavily use dinning (got 100k points so far this year in dining) and travel this year increased to 70k on gold. I figured I would get more bang for my buck by going Plat and keeping Gold for restaurants and super markets. I also use the credits as well. I think this is the right move and I used your calculators which seem to be the case. Mainly curious if others are doing this method or I should just go full platinum? I’m also getting the welcome bonus on the plat here soon as well. Thanks for all your help!
🐎 Great summary video. Any chance they will make a card between the Platinum and the Centurion?

Basically, you need to be a jet-setter who always sits at the front of the plane, or has the plane all to yourself, and stays in top hotels. Makes sense. You’re not going to take full advantage of the concierge and other credits if you’re just buying printers.
Sebby, I have Amex platinum w 130k points and Hilton aspire w 240k points , what’s the best way to use the points for a travel vacation? I also saw a 30-40% point bonus if I transferred the platinum points to Hilton points . Thanks in advance for the help.

When I got my invite I had only had my Platinum for two years all of which was in the UK. I’ve now had my Centurion for 3 years and can say that I really don’t see as much benefit in it compared to my JPM card 🐎

My friend has it but I have no idea what the requirements were for him to get it, he owns a massive beer and liquor distribution company so they spend a lot in general.

I do have the card and i did get the invite in 2021, it is a personal version, I am in NY City area, I do not agree with your thoughts on how much you need to spend to get the card invite. They should do a white holographic card
You know what I want? The ability to combine my Gold and Platinum Cards onto my Platinum Card. Combine the annual fees, and give me all the perks of both on the Platinum, so I don't have to carry two bloody metal cards around. The most convenient thing AmEx could do would be that. 🐴
There really needs to be a card between the platinum and the centurion. The average spend on the platinum is in the tens of thousands. There is a demographic that spends in the hundreds of thousands, but not enough for the centurion. A card in between catering to higher spenders and offering a bit more exclusivity than the platinum but less than the centurion would be a great product.
I got an invite in 2010 and turned it down and kept my Platinum. I just didn’t think it was worth it. Switzerland is one of those countries that it’s easy to get this card. Great video. But, my opinion stick to the platinum.
Thank you for this info. I’ve been trying for an invite. Looks like I’m going to have to spend a bit more…. Like a MILLION Five more. 😂
I wish they kept the old platinum card weight. Its now cut down with a plastic finish for the tap feature. Feels cheap now
watching this as a centurion member myself, they are for sure not looking for the amount of spend but the type of spend.
I see Amex in the feature making those requirements higher and uniformed across the USA to make sure people don’t try to game the system. 🐴🐎🎠🏇🦄
🐎 Also I’m curious, how do you actually get a car dealership to accept full payment for the car on an Amex (or any card for that matter)? A few years ago I was looking at a new Mercedes C 63 coupe and asked the sales guy what the max was I could put on a card. He looked at me and said, “We can do up to $3000.” So much for reaching your minimum spend! The Service Department at Mercedes, however, has no limit.
@jasonhuofficial
3 ай бұрын
That's because the sales guy knows that the finance guy needs him to convince you to get a loan from MBFS. If you offer to pay for the CC fees, you can probably convince them to let you put it all on the CC though.
🐎 I appreciate your insight of this card but this is for the movers and shakers 💰
YES Amex needs to filter the Platinum too same way it did with the Centurion black. Exclusivity itself is a product!
