How To Fix Your Air Conditioning On A Honda Odyssey
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
How To Fix Your Air Conditioning On A Honda Odyssey. A common issue with 2005 to 2010 Honda Odyssey A/C's is a faulty relay which causes your compressor clutch to not cycle. In turn, no cold air. This video shows you how to easily check and replace the R4 A/C Compressor Clutch Relay which may fix your A/C issue for under $10.00 if you experience similar symptoms.

A mechanic can charge to you at least $1400 to do that. He going to tell you that he had to change the compressor, hoses, etc.. I trust in mechanics on you tube. I had the same problem, I going to get a new relay and see what happen. Thank you so much sir..for your time and share your knowledge with us!

@@blairman76 I tried with the relay. But the problem I think is in the compressor pulley . Some times when I start the car , the a/c doesn't blow nothing, after a few seconds or minutes when I cross by a little bump in the street, the a/c starts working again.
This might be the clearest DIY video I've seen on anything (certainly about this problem), and it saved me at least $1,000 (which is what I was quoted by a "recommended shop" to "replace the AC compressor" after I dropped the vehicle off for them to diagnose. It took me less than 10 mins to do as instructed in this guide, and cost me $9.49 for the replacement relay, and this was the first video that came up in my search! It seemed too good to be true... but it was too well explained and easy enough to test myself, which I did before getting a second estimate today... and am I sure glad I did because it went exactly as described in this video. My issue was the driver side worked great, blew cold air as expected. Passenger side only blew hot air, rear didn’t blow at all. I just popped off both fuses (relay 1 and 4), shook them to to if they sounded broken which they didn’t. I swapped them and put them back into the fuse box. Everything now works fine. Nothing seemed unseated so this could be a temporary fix with one of the fuses going bad perhaps. But for now just switching them fixed it immediately. Thanks for sharing. Will probably buy two new fuses and just replace them.

I like that idea - replace them anyways as it’s an inexpensive touch at this point. If this happens in the future as described, listen for a clicking sound from the dashboard because a gear in the temperature blend door actuator might be the issue.
Had an intermittent problem on a Subaru Forester recently. Was taken to a shop, they recovered the refrigerant/recharged with dye added. Charged $125 and said that it was fixed, but the problem persisted. AC worked fine on startup, but 15 minutes or so down the road, it quit. I got the car, immediately tried a new relay, problem solved. Subaru dealer relay, $30 charge for part, did the labor for free.

Thanks for this helpful video! I was researching why my Odessey's AC wasn't working, assuming I needed to leak check and recharge. I came across this vid and realized the clutch wasn't cycling on, switched relays and it worked! I have a new relay ordered. I do have a question, I hooked up my gauge to see if I might need coolant and the low pressure showed over 100psi, and when I detached it it continued to hiss out air/coolant until I put the cap back on. Is this just because the compressor isn't kicking on? I didn't think to check it when I had the working relay in and it was cycling...

Thank you for your time in advance.

If you bought it from a dealership lot, then I would take it back. Though I think you have an electrical parasitic drain issue - basically something is running or drawing current when it shouldn’t. I would start with your AC relay. When the fuse goes bad, it constantly tries to engage the air conditioning compressor even when the vehicle is turned off. As a result, it keeps trying to engage the compressor until the battery is totally drained. The AC relay, which is only a few dollars may just fix your issue. Plus, when you pull the relay and shake it - if it rattles it’s bad, if there is no rattling then your back to having a parasitic draw test. But I think this should fix your problem. Swap it out with a new one. If it does not work then please take your van to a real mechanic to do an electrical system analysis.

I recently bought a 04 odyssey with 67,000mi it had sat for awhile and when I test drove it there was no noise coming from inside the dash. When I drove it off the lot the A/C was running and now when I turned the key to the ignition position I hear a steady clicking from the dash. Yesterday I replaced the cabin filter and it wasn't that dirty and found no debris. Got any tips. Great video too 👍
@YourHomeGarage

The clicking noise "inside the dash" could be the result of a failed door actuator. The teeth on the plastic gear inside could have sheared and are now slipping. The actuator is located in the drivers footwell, above the gas pedal and slightly to the right, tucked into the dash.
Dealing with some weird issues... seems like the wiring for the AC mag clutch is faulty somewhere. Thought relay was bad, replaced it, but then the clutch wouldn't start unless I pressed real hard on the top of the relay -- like either the relay itself or the connection crimps are loose. Tried tightening those, then reinserted the relay - same thing. Had to bypass it temporarily with a screw thru the top of the relay. Confirmed Freon pressure is good while doing that, but I need to figure out the *correct* fix for the AC mag clutch relay. Current "fix" is surely dangerous... I assume? Meanwhile, both AC fans decided not to work anymore. Blows cold on both sides while driving, but warm at idle. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer on either issue.

This can be frustrating, especially as many areas are experiencing record breaking temperatures. Pushing down the relay to engage the AC Mag Clutch is where I would start to investigate. Bypassing the relay long term isn't a good strategy as it's meant to help protect the electrical system, but I just did something similar on my home AC to narrow down a bad capacitor - so we do find creative ways to troubleshoot! When you look at the fuse box - can you: Inspect the inside fuse panel with a flashlight - examine the fuses and more so the wiring in and around the fuse panel. Dark, discoloured and burned wires are obvious issues that require attention. Wires with bubbles in the insulation are signs of overheating. How old is the vehicle?
nice
I have 2009 Honda Odyssey EX-L. AC blows only when turned all the way down and then works fine. first go all the low and then can adjust the temperature. The heating blows same hot air regardless of temperature control. any thoughts!

Unfortunately, there are many things that can affect the operation of the A/C system. This sounds a lot like an A/C compressor issue. However, it could be a relay or switch problem as well that’s causing the inconsistent operation of your A/C system. For the A/C compressor - start with this check list: - Strange Sound; if you hear strange noises when you turn on the A/C, then it's probably the compressor. - If it blows warm air when the A/C is on, then it’s likely low refrigerant or compressor failure. - Look for any apparent fluid leaks - A stuck clutch
I'm gonna try this..because I have been having these same issues...so far I've replaced my battery and alternator.....

If you've got cold air in the rear that seems to rule out a problem with the actual AC cooling system (compressor, freon, evaporators). Most likely to be a problem with the air flow control (flaps, diverters).
How abour honda odyssey 2002???
If it revs a little when turning ac on and off would it mean it’s not the relay?
@YourHomeGarage
9 ай бұрын
It's normal for engine revs to fluctuate a bit with the AC on. When the compressor clutch engages and drives the AC compressor, a bit of extra engine power is used by the compressor, and engine RPM will fall a bit. When the clutch disengages, that extra power isn't required, and engine RPM will increase. Also check for a loose alternator belt - if the AC load is added on the engine, the rpm’s can fluctuate.

This is a statement that I ran across from Honda's Service News dated July 2012 - sounds as if it pertains to your situation. "If the left dashboard side vent is warmer than the right side vent with the A/C on, chances are the evaporator core isn’t being flooded with enough liquid refrigerant, causing it to fully vaporize halfway through the core. As a result, the side of the core with some refrigerant (the right duct) stays cold, while the side that’s fully vaporized (the driver’s duct) is warmer by about 20 degrees (or more in some cases). The most likely cause for this problem is a low refrigerant charge, possibly from a leak. Another culprit might be a restricted line or component that’s cutting the flow of liquid refrigerant. To find and fix this problem, just follow the A/C PERFORMANCE leg of the online job aid A/C Diagnostic Process. If the vent temperatures even out, you’re done. If they don’t, continue with normal troubleshooting and check the system for restrictions. For more info, be sure to check out self-study module ACC23, A/C System Checks & Monitoring in the dealer’s Online University"

@YourHomeGarage
Жыл бұрын
Here are some starting points since I’m not sure what the exact symptoms are: Check if the rear AC is working. This would indicate the compressor is fine - then no need to investigate that further. Remaining likely failures are the interior air temperature checker, which is unlikely to be the cause, or the HVAC control unit itself, which seems to be a common failure. Also check the heating system(assuming the weather allows it). If you ask for 85 degrees, does it get there? How's the fan? If you ask for 85 degrees and force the fan to full speed, does it eventually get to 85 degrees? These would be indications of the interior temperature sensor being bad. Note that the interior temperature sensor being bad would definitely NOT affect the fan speed control, which is yet another finger pointing at the climate control unit itself.

@@YourHomeGarage Hi, we were able to check all relays and fuses, and all were fine. So, we measured the pressure in the" Low" line, and found it was around 7. So just to check the idea that low pressure might keep the compressor from engaging, we added a bit of refrigerant and the clutch suddenly engaged, and the system started working. We added a full can of refrigierant, just for proof of concept, and sure enough the system in terms of cold air worked ok. So, this van has 200k miles on it, but until a few months ago, AC was fine. So, I expect that there is a leak that needs detecting, and the entire system flushed and filled professionally. But, at least today, during our PA heatwave, it's great that the AC works. At least now you have the benefit of more knowledge and resources to ask a technician different questions if this situation were to occur again. Only you can answer if the $900 was worth the investment to solve the AC problem and provide comfort on your drive. @YourHomeGarage

@@MsTupee Okay - I could ask more questions, but here are a few thought starters. If the refrigerant is low, it will only flood part of your evaporator core which starts off on the passenger side - this means the drivers side will be warm. If there is a restriction in the system, such as one of the lines, then the warm air could easily be the outcome. On your Honda, there could be an issue with the air mix door - this will send out a trouble code for easier diagnostic.
@WKaznartist

It could be A/C condenser, which Honda extended the warranty to 10 years since initial purchase of the vehicle. But independent mechanics also said the A/C compressor can be effected too because of the originally defective Honda A/C condenser. This issue may be affecting your 2012 Odyssey too.
