Glad you did this video and put the ebay link. I'm just waiting for the day I bust my ass when they don't deploy properly. You definitive eased my apprehension on doing it myself.

Thanks for doing this. I haven't seen a clear enough video like this to actually replace the motors. I hope the driver's side is as easy. The links helped too!

Thank you for posting this video. My driver side boards started to make a horrible noise in the last week. I took it to the dealership and they wanted to charge me $900 to get the motor replaced. Now, I have the confidence of doing it myself.

The other option is to replace the worn out bushings in the brackets. Quite often, the motor is fine, but the bushings do transfer the plastic from the bushing to the pivot pins. That increases the drag and the boards slow down. The final stage is stuck boards. A set of bushings for one side runs about $40. I cover that process on a couple of videos.

I’ve been reading and the life on these are about 5 years (give or take) or 60,000 miles? I mean so if you’re rocking anything under a 2018 it’ll most likely need replaced don’t you think?

@@brentanderson722 This is true, but the failure process only gets worse as the plastic bearing surface goes away. Take a look at my video series on this if you are interested. I had to replace the passenger side ones on my 08 Navigator after I broke it off. I just bought a new cheap Chinese motor and arm assembly and then rebuilt the rear one using parts from a broken one from eBay and my original one. Since I want this to work for a long time, that rear assembly is now set up with zerk fittings so that I can grease all 8 pivot points. The video series is here: kzread.info/head/PLoz-2IH4A2KsZiDXB0f-hhKZtAzO_wuO_

Best I've found for winter was clean them out well! Some sort of pen lube get it smooth. Then some white grease, then fluid film on top. She ain't pretty, but did a whole Alberta winter with a smooth driver side board. Pretty sure I stripped my passenger side two winters ago, thus why I'm here 😅 it has its occasional Up's and Down's now. When it does move there's a nasty vibration from the motor, no grinding.... Moves up and down quickly when it does.

Great video almost exactly what I needed. My board needs to be replaced. Motors work fine. Will the board come off just by removing the 4 set screws (2 on each board)?

  • @OldAndGettingOlder

I can't argue with the all in one shotgun approach. You probably replaced more than you needed to. Nonetheless, you replaced what was wrong...whatever it was. Likely it was only the bushings in the hinge. The hinge bearings are usually the problem. It is unfortunate that Ford didn't design the hinges to be easily serviceable.

Yep. They should have put zerk fittings on so that you could grease the 16 pivot points on each side. I have a video series that shows how to do that.
