Ford Power Running board STUCK WHY!!! This is why and what to do about it. Also covers Navigators.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

So you open your door and the running board comes down on your truck. The wife, who needs it to get into the truck climbs in and closed the door. Meanwhile, the running board stays down because it can and you take off. Next thing you know, the running board gets broken off in the car wash.
So, how do you fix this problem. What I show you in this video is the reason this happens and also I give you the method to fix it. Now to the details.
The board sticks down because the plastic lining in the 16 bushings that are used with each board have worn out, sticking the plastic to the pivot pins in the process. Dry rusty steel on steel does not move well. Such Fun!
The fix is to replace those bushings with new ones and clean the pins. A simple job, assuming that you have a press and a source of heat, the pins are a press fit into the two moving bodies.
So then, where do you get the Unobtainium bushings, Ford doesn't sell the sets. Well they are available from a couple of people, this company on EBay is one source.

I also recommend that you use a molybdenum disulfide and graphite lube. In fact this should be shot into the joints on a regular basis. I don't have a specific brand, but Dupont is one of many companies that make this, as is the company Dri Slide.
Another source is: bearing-solutions.isostatic.c...
As I said, I intend to try over the next few days to use my toy lathe to carve a set of these out of bronze, this should be "interesting" to say the least.
If that works, I will post a video of the success. If it fails, well I may well also post that video. Time will tell.
P.S. As you are taking these apart and putting them back together, make sure that you appease Vulcanus, else he will toast your bumpers. I forgot to throw him a virgin and now I have unvulcanized rubber bumpers on one of the arms. OOPS
Have fun all of you out there in Cyberland.
Please ask any questions you have in the comments section, I do usually answer.

I took a board of my truck and found that indeed the bushings are the problem. I was able to get mine replaced under warranty. Guaranteed these boards will fall in 4-8 years depending on usage and environment. I'm glad to see you're adding lubrication.

It's the only rational thing to do. To be able to push the gunk out of the bushings on a regular basis. I am using a molybdenum and graphite grease. Time will tell if it is effective.

Good video! My ram 2500 running board got this problem recently and I lubbed all the point but still no good. It's a 2021 2500 so I don't think the problem of bushings. Today I unplug the connector and reconnect it, vola, it works and no problem! But I will keep watching the bushing and pins!

I am glad that you found this useful. Having pulled apart a bunch of these brackets and seen the condition of the original bushings, I am surprised that any older Ford product boards move at all.

His is a timely video… I just purchased new EOM motor and brackets. Then realize, my old brackets are not bad just need new bushings. Boy, I hope I can get them out with out too much heat. Hurry up posting the SS rod removal video

I suspect that most people buy new motors and the front swing set when all that is needed is a $40 set of bushings. In my case, I am replacing the front set because I snapped my old one in half. I was able to get more than enough heat with just a normal propane torch. The heat required was around 150 degrees or so. It's more important to insure that the whole length of the pin in the center piece is hot. Also, do watch out for those rubber bumpers. If you toast them you will be having a bad day. About the ss rod, I don't have one on my Navigator. I have the short wheel base. The extended wheel base is where those are used on the Navigator.

I don't know if Amp uses c clips. The board here is a Ford stock one. In the Ford design, the pins are a shrink fit into the link portions of the hinge. Did you look at my videos on removing and installing these? There is a playlist that covers the whole process, located here: kzread.info/head/PLoz-2IH4A2KsZiDXB0f-hhKZtAzO_wuO_
