I have spent the last 66 years sitting at a desk typing (I'm 82) and have really bad neck and shoulder pain. But even after only 10 minutes of your exercises I feel much better. I will be back in another 4 weeks when, hopefully I will be much better. Thank you.

    Thank you for the exercises. I have been having the grinding in my neck for quite a while sometimes my Fingers turn white like I have a pinched nerve. I can't afford going to the chiropractor as they always want to sign me up for a treatment program similar to a timeshare presentation which I can't afford so I just live with it and eventually it goes away with movement. I will follow your routines and hope it helps.

    Thanks Dr. for your video. Before working on the neck the best is to work on the shoulders by moving the hands in variety of directions, in particular hand circling clock wise &counterclockwise are very helpful on any neck issues. Those with severe neck pain should wok on their shoulders for a while before neck.

    Can you make another video explaining everything on more detail because I am blind? If I have to lay down or if I need to sit down and or if I need to stand. What happened to me was that earlier I was laying down on the couch for like around 40 minutes on the regular square pillow and I started getting slightly pain on the right top side of my neck near the ear side. But there was no sound at that moment. Then I lay down on my bed to rest for a little bit and started getting those cracking sounds. And I started getting worry. That something bad is going to happen. The little pain that I was getting on my neck. I had it in the past but it always goes away after like 20 minutes. But when I lay down on the bed and hear cracking sounds . it’s something new to me. I want to make sure that I can troubleshoot it if it’s not dangerous and if it’s dangerous then I want to go to the doctor. . Please can you help me? If there’s a way I can contact you. So I can explain better

    Hi Dr. Jon, I've started these exercises, going slowly as per your video. You mentioned over a period of weeks to notice improvements. How long before improvements are noticeable? 3 weeks? 6 weeks? And is it realistic that the grinding / popping can be eliminated? Thx for your advice.

  • @drjonsaunders

    Usually a minimum of 6 weeks...if you have degenerative disc disease and/or a neck aligment issue you will likely need some professional help from a chiro who will be able to help reduce the sounds as much as possible...best of luck.

    Hey Doc, this neck crackling sound was self-induced by accident. I turned my head rapidly on one side one day and now whenever I produce that same motion the crackling sounds always happens (without pain or swelling) It actually feels like it's literally behind my skull and not my neck. It's been 2 weeks that it hasn't gone away and I am getting concerned. Thanks for the neck exercises. I will try it.

Since then I had a feeling of heaviness and headaches. after two days I started to feel the pain in my neck, more stiffness and pain, then came to my mind Maybe it is something with my neck. After that, I started to hear cracking in my upper neck when I put my head down and start rotating it. What causes “loss of lordosis” in the cervical spine? Is it postural or just something that happens if you’re lucky enough to get old? Is it fixable? Is it important to fix it?

  • @drjonsaunders

    @drjonsaunders

    That is a great question - lots of things can cause a loss of lordosis, however it is commonly caused by poor postural patterns (mobile use, sitting too long, not enough exercise) and trauma. Hopefully you got your neck checked out everything you're saying on your comments I've been through. Finally I found someone who has similar stuff as I do. They found four pinched nerves in my neck and the top area c3 and 4 was the worst of moderate nerve pinching. And yes all that stuff you're saying I was going through bad last year this year not so bad but it's still kind of bad. I'm hoping by next year things get better. I hope you get better I hope you get the right diagnosis too. Until my wife and I tell my friends I never understood how important my neck is until all this started happening.

It's not painful but if I look down for too long or stand for too long, it starts feeling like a tug. Already got X-ray & CT scanned but they didn't find anything. Could it be poor posture or weak back muscles? I do tend to sit for long periods of times. Any suggestions are appreciated!
