How To Get Rid of Tinnitus (Cervical) / Ringing in Ears

How To Get Rid of Tinnitus (Cervical) | Dr. Jon Saunders | Newmarket Chiropractor
In this video Dr. Jon Saunders will give you 3 ways to help get rid of tinnitus. If tinnitus (ringing in ears) has part of its cause coming from your neck, some relief is achievable. Dr. Jon Saunders will show you tinnitus stretches, tinnitus exercises, trigger point therapy and even an ear adjustment that just may help.
Tinnitus is the perception of sound without external stimulation. Cervical tinnitus or cervicogenic tinnitus is a diagnosis by exclusion. Between 5% and 15% of the general population report tinnitus which has a major negative impact on quality of life. To diagnose cervical tinnitus or cervicogenic tinnitus, there should be evidence of neck problems/issues (i.e., appropriate imaging studies like x-rays) AND modulation of tinnitus by neck movement which is often associated with neck stiffness or pain.
There are many causes of tinnitus such as age-related hearing loss (presbyacusis), noise exposure, infections of the inner ear, inner ear problems like Meniere’s Disease, medication side effects, neurological conditions, and rarely tumours. Always check with your doctor to get an appropriate diagnosis.

About 3 and a half years ago, I was on the computer in weird position for HOURS a day. My back and neck contorted from a nervous neck tic I had for 10 years. (which I did in private, nobody knew).=, and had a crooked jaw from grinding right sight teeth. One day, I decided to do push ups out of my chair. Did 10, and my ear immediately rang so loud that I feel in the floor. Had tinnitus since then, and only really discovered about 6 months ago that it was ALL from my neck and TM joints. Been doing exercises like these and I would say I've lessened my tinnitus about 90%. Now it only flairs up if I sleep wrong on my pillow. But I KNOW that I can still improve.

Ive had ringing tinnitis on my left side for 20yrs??? and a clicking tinnitis on my right side for less time. Ive tried the 'tapping' on the back of the head/neck which seemed to work for a short period of time. However, your finger pressure in the same place seems to have worked!!! I'm so used to ringing in my head im not sure that its gone or that what i am hearing is the silence i havnt heard for so long. But i feel it has worked - maybe thats why i am now in tears. Even if its only short lived - you have helped me. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I developed neck related tinnitus in 2006. Doctors used to dismiss my assertion that it is coming from neck muscles with disdain. In my case it is associated with fibromyalgia and stress. When I am stressed my neck muscles become tense and the best remedy is to reduce stress. It is important to manage anxiety and stress to get relief with this condition.

Tinnitus. Visual snow. Chronic fatigue. Eyesight disorders. Glares. Light sensitivity. Pelvic issues. Derealization. Extreme body wide tension. Ten years now. Out of all the people I've spoken to none gave me answers. I've always had a knowing that it's my body. Now I'm doing something called dct (dynamic contraction technique ) and working on body awareness. It's hard not to be overwhelmed. Even ten years plus later. I have to undo my conditioning from a stationary family on my mothers side. It's just extremely difficult with fatigue. Like chipping away through a mountain hoping eventually there will be another side

Does Advil make Tinnitus worse? I cannot imagine life without noise in my head, as I've had it from a young child. I had many ear infections when young and was told waaay back then that that's why I have it. Then about 1976 I had my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed because the dentist thought that might help. Didn't.

I have tinnitus pretty bad, I also have BPPV anxiety and balance issues. I have had treatment for the BPPV and it helps some. I can’t do a lot of turning if my head for it will cause the BPPV to happen. My neck hurts and I get ocular headaches and up the neck. I also have dysfunctional eustation tubes and fullness in the ears. I always feel as if I am tipping over. I have tried some things to help any suggestions to whom I should talk to more about it?

I have had tinnitus both the ringing and pulsatile for about 3 years. I have learned to “ignore it” but some days it is extremely loud and it gets to my nerves. I have TMJ and I thought that was the cause of it, but because of a horrible neck pain )actually my whole upper body) I got some X-rays done 2 days ago. Yesterday I got the results and it says that I have loss of cervical lordosis, and that can cause tinnitus as well. I feel broken and frustrated. I have another appointment next week to see how can I be fixed. Wish me luck. Thanks for the video.

As a work from home office worker and digital musician, it's hard to tell whether my tinnitus is caused by ear fatigue or poor posture. I suspect that both things are contributors, but after trying your techniques, I literally felt a rush of warmth and openness in my ears and my tinnitus went down in volume significantly. I tried each of the techniques shown in your video so I'm not sure which one had the most impact. In your experience, which of these techniques is most effective for the hunch-forward neck caused by poor seated posture?

You might conservative strenghten all neck muscles for long periode. While the excercises can increase the volume, but in the long run decrease the volume. Maybe not help you, but helped me. Took me 8 months to decrease volume significantly, still exercise and I think I will get rid of it. No tinnitus on the right side anymore so I have hope.

Thanks for the video! I first noticed my tinnitus on my left ear last November when I was lying on the couch. I thought I was just hearing the fridge or something else from the floor above, but when I sat up the sound was "on" my ear. I had it for two days straight before it disappeared for a couple of weeks. Since then I've had from time to time, but it didn't really bother me much because it would only last for a day or two each time. Two and a half weeks ago I went through a lot of stress. Since then the tinnitus has been there pretty much all the time, although I've had maybe two or three days without any symptoms. Like stated above, the sound from a fridge is how I best can describe my tinnitus. However, when the tinnitus is at its loudest its almost as if I can hear my own pulse. I struggle sleeping at night and concentrating at work, where I spend most of my time in a chair reading studies for my PhD project. I know for a fact that my posture isn't the best, so that is something I'm working on to improve. I went to an ENT specialist last Monday for a hearing test, and the conclusion was that my hearing is completely normal. On Friday I'm having an MRI, and I'm also seeing a naprapat on Wednesday. The quality of life has changed dramatically since this problem worsened, and the whole situation feels hopeless. Personally I believe that my tinnitus is of the somatic type as it is influenced by head movement. I've observed several times that the sound gets louder when I bend my head forward, whereas the opposite happens when I bend it backwards. Sometimes it even disappears completely when I do the latter. When this happens it's kinda like a button which lets me turn the tinnitus on and off. I should also note that the tinnitus disappears as long as I hold my finger in the ear. What do you make of my symptoms/observations, and what do you think I should do next? Does it seem likely that my tinnitus can be treated and disappear for good?

The only relief I've ever found is from Prednisone. I've been prescribed it a few times since my tinnitus started and each time my tinnitus goes away until I taper off Prednisone. Do you have any clue why that could be? Thanks for the video.

Using NSAIDS can cause tinnitus, sinus infections can cause tinnitus and ear infections or damage from chronic ear infections can cause tinnitus. Being in an acidic condition can also cause tinnitus. I had a friend who came to my house one night with severe tinnitus from taking too much aspirin for days over a toothache he had. He was in tears, so I took him to the emergency room at North Florida Regional Hospital. They gave him an intravenous drip of bicarbonate of soda and by the time they were done, his tinnitus was gone. I have had tinnitus for years and years because of sinus and ear infections I had for a long time. An olive oil/garlic juice remedy is the best for ear infections. Just mash a garlic clove into a small quantity of olive oil and pour through a strainer and put a couple drops in each ear once a day until the ear infection is gone. This has helped me a lot and healed my ear infections and largely reduced my tinnitus to a functional level.

I am deeply cynical about vids like this - however the darndest thing occurred when I was doing the isometric contraction for head rotation; my lifelong 24/7, 11/10 volume level tinnitus increased to 13/10 during the contraction. Rather than say thanks for nothing, I'm actually curious. Strange thing is I don't have any neck problems but as a young adult I had 3 years of physiotherapy and eventually my neck was good - so much so that I'd almost forgotten about that time. My tinnutus predated my neck problems however. My first childhood memory was of tinnitus and it has never stopped for even a moment. It is ridiculously loud, so much so I have to speak loudly in order to hear myself speak. Hearing is average for my age.

My tinnitis came from working in noisy environments, driving trucks with no A/C then having a heavy metal band in my basement. There is probably an autoimmune factor added in. No amount of tapping, twisting, or exercise is going to undo 60 years of abuse. Honestly, it doesn't bother me. Think if cicadas, crickets, and katydids year-around.

How do you find out what kind of tinnitus you have? My audiologists just do hearing tests and then shrug. My GP doesn't believe I have it.

TMJ is intimately related to your upper neck, nerves, etc....there is something called somatic tinnitus as well. All the best.

I have tinitus after being adjusted in my neck by chiropractror. Should I visit chiropractor again to fix it?

That would be an unusual side effect? It may just be coincidental...but I would definitely ask. All the best!

@@drjonsaunders thank you for your response. That is what happened. I never had tinitus before but after cervical spine adjustment by chiropractor I know hear constant beeping on my ears. It never goes away. And Because of that I am also worried to visit chiropractor again. At the same time I feel this is my only chance to get better. If I move my jaw forward tinitus gets much worst. Like something mechanical (preasure from the jaw bone maybe) causing it in my case.
