How To Fix Fan Speed Control on 2004 Silverado Sierra Blower Motor Resistor Install

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Does your General Motors fan speed controller blow fast but not slow? You may need a new fan speed control resistor! Pete's 1st Gen 2004 Silverado fan speed control only worked for positions 3, 4, and 5 while positions 1 and 2.
This video should directly apply to all GM Trucks produced between 1999 through 2007 including the Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, and Escalade.

    Just completed it. Worked like a champ. Thanks for the simple, straightforward video!! (2003 Sierra) Note: there is a mounting plate on my particular model that covered the resistor unit. On mine, I had to discard it but the Duralast replacement part is designed to fit without that mounting plate.

    Thanks so much for the video. Changed mine out yesterday, 2003 GMC Sierra. I came back from vacation after 3weeks and drove to the store and could smell something like burning electrical. I came out of the store and everything quit, or at least I thought it did. I checked the fuse and it was ok. I did have power to the unit and the ac lights would come on but no fan. After watching your video I suspected it was the resistor because about a year ago I lost the #5 speed on the fan. Ordered the part from your link, installed it last night and everything works great now. Man I love KZread!! Have a Great Summer! Thanks Again!

    Nice video. Helped me lots. Things to consider but please remember that my left arm is only about 70%. The passenger side seat rail digs into your side as you lay in the floor board. You really have to get your head towards the firewall to see the screws that hold the shroud. The plug that is inserted into the fan is the hardest part because you can't really see how it can be released. I had to use pliers. It was easier to bolt on the new unit and even plug in the fan wire. The best thing is that it works!!

    The kit to replace the fan motor, resistor, and connector is only 82 bucks at Rock Auto. Its also OEM, not cheap junk like this. Even the OEM part shown in the video is only 33 bucks on rock auto. GM recommends you replace the motor, resistor, and connecter all at the same time, because the OEM motor draws too much power, causing the resistor to overheat and fail. the replacement kit solves the problem which causes the failure. I opted to replace all 3 at once using the kit.

    2006 Chevy Trailblazer. Mine would not work on fan speed 5, so I replaced this resistor a month ago and all was well. Today it stopped blowing intermittently as I clicked through the speeds. By the time I got to work, nine were working. I am going to replace the control unit entirely, as I noticed the lights were going out on it, so I suspect this is the problem. If not, I will replace the resistor again. The one I bought from Amazon had hit and miss reviews. The next (if needed) will come from rock auto.

    Question...my 06 GMC truck. Melted the fan speed dial a few years ago. This time. 1/2/3 quit working and now 4/5 speeds have quit too. Last time when the fan speed dial was replaced should the resistor module been replaced too (is that what causes the fan dial to melt?) Reason I ask is...I assume I need to replace the speed fan switch again but should I switch out the resistor too?

    I think the only way to check is to have a look at what the current resistor looks like. If it looks cruddy, replace it and it'll probably be back to working. If not, its probably the HVAC controller box (the dials) which is also an easy fix.

    My resister did burn up on my 2003 chevy silverado. Only fan speed 4 out of 5 was working. I replaced it and 1,2,3 and 4 now work but 5 still does not. Also the green stick circuit board looking thing that comes out got really hot when I connected it. I was thinking since it sticks up into the air vent, that it what cools it. And because it was on and but the fan wasn't blowing, that is what made my old one burn up. Is that the case or should it not hot?

    The blower has a bearing it starts to fail then starts to draw more amps. Then it start to melt the terminals and resistor. So it's important to change both blower and resistor as a pair.

    @kaylamarie8309

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@laloperez5209 Watch this persons video for sure to see where things are in the truck..In my case I pulled the fan speed blower motor resister out from under the passenger side underneath the glove compartment area to inspect it. You can see the housing for it with no problem once you know where to look. When I pulled mine out I noticed that there was some burnt/melted wiring evidence on the wiring harness for the resister and upon removing the old part from the harness I saw that the wiring harness was melted significantly on the inside where the pins went into it..specifically the pins that controlled the fan speeds that were not functioning. I bought a new wiring harness from O'rielly's Auto Parts and cut the old one out. it was easy to replace just by splicing in the new harness based on the old wires orientation. Just refer to the old harness and hook up the same way. I replaced the resister unit as well just out of caution as I figured it was likely an OEM part and bound to fail sooner than later anyway. After replacing the parts the switch that controls the fan speed works flawlessly on all speeds. Complete repair was less than a hundred bucks. Far less than having it done elsewhere I'm sure. Hope that helps.
