I have a Sony Handycam, model DCR-HC21. I followed your example and did the three ribbons you show twice and it didn't work either time. I then noticed 3 other ribbons and then did all six and made sure to push them in really snuggly. Perseverance pays off. It worked! This is very important to me as I use this camera to convert family videos of my friends to DVDs (editing in chapters even). Thanks so much!! You saved me a lot of aggravation.

I might just try pulling them all out again (& again) and making sure they are pushed in securely. I found that it was so touchy that the slightest difference might make it work or not work.@@aidencarroll8039

Did what you recommend on a Panasonic sd90, managed to get the back case off, but the ribbons were tiny and looked very delicate, so I just opted for a spray of WD40, and the result?..........Magnificent success. Kudos to you Tampatec, round of applause from me.

I had high hopes, but alas. All the cables look fine when I removed the back, so there was not anything to fix. Buttons still not working.

Thank you for this video - I have a sneaky feeling that this is what has happened to our HDR-CX105. The only question I have, is to check how to remove the rear cover from the flip-out screen on this particular camera? I can see that there are two small Philips-head screws on the inside, which are awkward, but just about ok to get to - but can't see any others! I'd like to know exactly how the cover is secured on, as I didn't want to break anything inadvertently. Thanks once again for sharing this ribbon tip.

Thank you for your timely and very informative video. It was significantly helpful and solved my problem as well. I want to add a couple of points to your offered points which are: first that the cables could be hot-glued or tapped and what I did was glue them once they were in. And secondly, the first two attempts were unsuccessful as you suggested with those two cables, but there is another cable -- once I removed that and put it back, it worked like a charm which should be credited to your video. Unfortunately, this solution didn't work for me either. My ribbon cables all seemed tightly connected, but I re-seated them again anyways. Looks like I'm off to hunt for a new camera. I appreciate the video you made though as your instructions were clear and easy to understand.

I just tried this with my Ordro 4K Camcorder. I believe it's made of Chinesium. It worked great. The ribbon cable had come out completely.

I have a similar problem with one of my old cameras (Sony Handycam HC28). readjusting the cables didn't work. I have a feeling the flex cable itself is broken somewhere. So I have ordered a new part and will have to install a new one.

I just solved problems of mine by removing all cables( Not only two but 3) from it and reinstalled them. After that, I made sure the wires are tightly inserted and then by using regular constant glue it stayed there. Also, I did reset the camera itself by pressing that tiny hole using a sharp nail a few times. Good luck

Yup. Re-seating cables in electronics repairs are always first remedies.

The big ribbon from the camera to display carries enough tension on the curve to pull loose from the clamp over time, due to opening and tilting of the screen. Yes taping ribbon flat just infront of clamp will keep it from moving 👍

Hey, don't give up. I tried several times and it didn't work and I kept doing it and it finally did work. Do all the ribbons you see, not just the 3 in the video. Make sure they are snug and aligned. Good luck!

Two of the ribbon ports don’t have latch doors and don’t want to come off. It looks like the ribbons are secure there. I reinstalled at the other 4 ribbon ports and it didn’t work unfortunately.

I'm sure I can do this but can't get the back off... found two screws but no more and its stuck at one end ??

You need to drag the grey, small thing towards the main body of them camera. Hope it helped!

The ribbon cable sockets are glued on. I popped the big one off the board while trying to open the clamp-oops. Devil to get it back correctly. No more LCD light.

There are some screws on the side if I take the connector pivot cover off.

I tried with mine but the cables/strips are quite tight and stable already... so I couldn't really do anything not fix my camera :( I was really hoping your video would help but nada. Everything works but the buttons on the LCD do not respond. Do you have any idea on what I should do next? take it to a shop? Thanks for the video anyway 👍🏼

Sachin The View Finder displays black and white parallel lines and LCD screen of my Sony DCR TRV 355 e display blank blue screen. Could you please suggest the solution to this. You must be using the wrong size Phillips micro screwdriver. Any difficulty taking these micro screws off is likely due to the tool you are using. If you use the wrong size Phillips screwdriver, you can damage these screw heads very easily. And then you will have a heck of a time removing them.

I knew it had to be a ribbon cable gotten loose, I just couldn`t find the hiding spot of the screws on the inside. If you wouldn`t have showed me I would still be searching.

even after doing everything here it still doesnt allow me to use the touchscreen (the buttons work and i own a Sony DCR-HC26)

I have the same camera here. My screen was blue but the buttons wouldn't work. I followed your instructions but now my screen is white. The mistake I made was when I pulled the lever to remove the ribbon that controls the buttons on the front, the piece came with it. Now, I am a fix it but not a techy. Can I just solder that piece back on or do I need "special electronic soldering stuff"? Or do I have to buy a new circuit board? Help!(I just want to transfer these home movies and the only way to control the camera is thru the touch screen!)
