Thank you so much for this particular video as it helped me fix my old sonycam which had this fault. I can now watch and show all my old videos to my wife. Watched lots of your videos and found them informative and educational in a very clear manner. Glad you gave me something to do during this challenging time. Okay, I NEVER comment on anything, but you saved my poor little life with this video! I dropped my camera on accident and the display popped off but the camera still powers on. Of course the screen didn't with because it wasn't connected, but the tape was still in great condition. I did exactly what you did in the video and it's brand new!!! Thank you so much

Thank you so much! I was able to fix the screen on my family's old sony DCR-HC96 which previously worked only when rotated 180 degrees. All it took was repluging in all flex connectors as you showed.

I found your instructional vid on this issue, but I have a HDR-UX7, the flip screen has a different configuration with the screws to open up the panel and unable to do the fix. Have you dealt with the Sony UX7 models; are there any tips for fixing the touch screen panel and reset the connections? Thanks, J.

How do you open the little clamps? the one underneath the other bigger ribbon?

I have an old one that the screen doesnt work and have so many tapes that i can watch, so keen to try this now to see if it works. I have stuff in there i havent watched for like 15 years. Its gonna be amazing....

Great video- very helpful. Do you have an easy fix for Canon cameras that have a lens error and the lens will no longer retract? I have two canon s100 that the lens will not retract. I have been told I have to replace the whole lens assembly. I am thinking there is probably a ribbon wire that is defective somewhere. I would love to see you do a video on the lens not retracting on Canon s100.

Thanks for doing this. Actually there are two more cables back there that you did not reseat. The cable under the first one you removed is the contact for the actual touch screen. It looked and felt seated but I removed it. Put a little spit on it and reseated it. That was the final trick. Also, you didn't mention it, but you showed me a little trick to open the latch on each cable, different for each cable, but that was key too Thanks

After I watched your video I ventured to dismantle the flip screen on my Canon Mvx2i Camcorder. I had to force the screen and the back panel apart once I had removed the screws. When doing so, I untied a ribbon_ the thinner and longer one_ and don't see where it fits back though it bears a tiny hole at its loose end. I wonder if you could help. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I have a Sony DCR HC-26E That has this same problem, I've tried everything in the video, But the touchscreen still doesn't work. The rest of the display works perfectly fine. I've opened it up and disconnected and reconnected all the ribbon cables, but the problem is still there. Any ideas of what to do?

Thank you! I have the same camera and the same fault. I'll try to do the same. You can also wipe the contacts with a pencil eraser. This is done in laptops to improve the contact of RAM. Спасибо! Thanks. I have a Sony FDR AXP55 that is giving a E95.01 error and the touch screen is also not working, so I cannot reset it from the menu. It was working, and all I did, was carry it home to my house, and then I started to get these errors. It will still record, but I've lost all functionality. I haven't been able to find a reset hole to reset it.

Very good video. Followed the steps but my viewer is still not playing ball. There is a lose connection on the swivel joint. I have just uploaded a video. Perhaps you could take a look. It would be a shame to throw it away. It’s an old one HDR SR10!!!

Going to attempt this on my Sony Handycam CX-260. Camera turns on when I open the screen, but the screen itself stays black and doesn't record anything.

DO NOT use hot glue on the connectors! If you ever have to replace that cable or it has to be reseated, it’ll be a NIGHTMARE to try and fix again. Other than that good video lol

My flat cables weren’t even loose…

In summary: 1. open lcd 2. detach and reattach ribbon cables.

what would be the problem if the lcd screen is loose when opening up and closing. it turns good but opening and closing the lcd screen is loose. I'm thinking the spring inside broke or something

My camera is a DCR-HC21 from 20 years ago, and still works turning on and off, and recording. I lost the picture and touchscreen earlier this year as the longest use I ever had.

Hey, actually I have the exact same Handycam but the touchscreen is unresponsive, so I can't play but only record/zoom using buttons. It's just that touch screen is not responding. If you could help, it would be great.

With the sonys that have an IR receiver you can try a remote to control it also.

It's normally a connection issue so look for lose wire and reseat connections.

How do you fix a Sony handycam screen pls mate

Does anyone on here have a DCR HC21 handicam? I have one that is in great shape except for the touch screen. I followed the instructions but it still doesn't seem to be working. I think the issue is one of the ribbon cables has a black dot. If anyone has dealt with this problem before please let me know!

My buttons work but touch screen does not, however if i put it in calibration mode the touch screen does detect input i have checked all ribbon cables as well, any advise?

The big clamps easily come undone but I can’t get the smaller cables out and don’t want to over force it. Any tips?

I cannot speak for anyone else, but I learned something a long time ago. Overkill is always sufficient in load-bearing applications, but not when working on delicate electronics. Sticking to the task and performing the minimum number of procedures is often the best thing to do. That connection was probably a result of the ribbon not being inserted properly at the time of the camera's original assembly. Dust can damage electronics. It's best removed with a can of dry air, but I didn't see any dust. A bottle of 70% alcohol is 30% water. If a solvent is required, electronic component cleaner is a better option than anything with water in it. The contacts on the ribbon and the clamps are gold (Au, #79.) Residue left from a liquid cleaner is not going to improve the electrical connection.

@@SteveWhiteDallas Always use 91% isopropyl alcohol on electronics. It evaporates cleanly with no residue. Always clean your contacts if you have taken the connections apart, delicately of course.

nahh i just did this and my screen completely disconnected from the camera😭😭😭 i don’t think i can repair this anywhere now

Be sure cable isn't damaged and connected properly. Maybe electronic spray might help for button and connectors.
