How to: Fix a Sticking Bail on a Spinning Reel
In this video I show you how to repair a sticking or stuck bail on a spinning reel. Sometimes the bail won't flip down and you're stuck. Don't throw out your reel! These are the 3 most common reasons why and how to fix each one.

Just got a telescoping rod an' spinning for father's day (backpacker's walmart special), and it must have been on the shelf for 10 yrs cuz it was bone dry... forgot I could lube the bail arms, lol. Gotta love my boys, they know I like packing out to hard to get to honey-holes... if it's the thought that counts, they really thought about this one. I can't express how much I love it. Anyways, lubing it up did the trick, thanx.
The Fade song and dancing cracked me up… 😂
Thank you sir, you are a lifesaver! Was trying to take my reel apart to understand the way it works more and I was getting very frustrated tryin to put it back together! 😂
Thank you very much my friend, I have been dealing with this for 2 days, I solved it thanks to you.
A sharp snap is such a great sound with spinning reels.
New fisher man had to completely dismantle my reel or lose it due to saltwater/sand ! Had it all but it was problem number 3 for me !! Goat bro thanks for the help !
I have been looking and searching the webs for some to show us, and to help us, how to fix with the Sticking bail. I found several of them, but with no results at all, that I have some fishing reel throw away because of the problem that I had with them, till I came in to your channel and BINGO!!! this was a WINNER, and this is the only video I found that helped me with my reel issue, And yes i bend the wire and Bingo" that fixed the Problem, so thank you so much for your video, it save me $ 69 dollars from throwing away another Spinning Reel. and from buying a new one!! So one's again thank you so much PS: would you put some more videos, about fixing Spinning reels!! Have a good day! Sincerely Max..
Thank you so much. I was about to put my reel in the parts box. But ... I got the pins in the correct hole and Shazam it works. Thank you again, it's my favorite flounder reel😅
Dude. You made a painful repair of my fishing reel . . . Hilarious. I don’t even care if I fix it now. Thanks for the laughs my friend. Keep it up. 💪🏻
I can't believe it works to issue 1 and 2, it is fixed immediately thank you so much.
Great video man, this was very helpful, and loved the comedic moments. 🙂👍
Thanks a million bro
I've searched the interwebs and this is the only video I found that helped me with my reel issue. Thanks bro! 👊

Know why this is the only video you have found ? Only children and amateurs don't close their bails manually. Manufacturers don't even think about the bail flipping automatically and making an annoying CLANG !!!!!
Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I had this exact issue and your video help me fix it very quickly.
Of course mine was the 3rd issue... Thank you for your help! it is working great again!
Tried all three proposed solutions as I was coming along….?.Put it back together and the bail is working like new. 👍
Nicely done. Glad I found your channel.
Thanks! The was the most helpful video I have seen.
I had an issue #3, thanks for helping me out

Thank you!! Working like new 🙌🏻
First-time viewer, love the memes! (and music). Will try them out later today. Also, going to look up the differences between reel oil and WD-40 before I screw up my reel.

WD-40 *is* a lubricant, but not the best by any means. If you are going to go to all this trouble get reel oil.
You just saved me with this video ❤
Great Video, Thanks

Thank you Brother! 😉

So I was backing up a few months ago and said boy sounds like we had something pretty big! Well, it turned out it was my rod that I ran over with my Pflueger President 2500. I'll tell you it was recessed in the dirt flat... it was still in one piece but the Bail is bent and doesn't seem to spin quite right any longer, understandable. After watching I'm pretty sure it is just the Bale and I can bend it back. I will post back soon...
You’re my fave lol ❤

Lol, I'm glad you like my nonsense 🤣 😘
Bro every time I try to put the bell back on I line the holes up and it just gets stuck. Been messing with it for a few days and starting to go Insane
I can find any info on the issue where my bail is locking when I make a cast sometimes. I lost like 6 lures due to this problem since the bail randomly locks and my lure goes flying off into the water. Super frustrating..
Why do I know that "PHISH' is your favorite band!
Umm your awesome mine is frozen it won't move at all
Excellent video. I cleared up a few older reels. One question. I am using a Penn 4500 Slammer. When the spool cycles up to maximum extension, and I flip the bail, the bail does not clear the top of the spool. Would you attribute that to the bail being bent, or is there another cure for that? Thanks.

I have the same issue. Did you find a fix?
Gun Oil could work maybe?
by my bail spring there is some weird little metal thing anyone know what that is?
Hey my bail is "loosey goosey" and I tried your fix method but still loose. Any other ideas?
So make takers - so little givers. Instead of just thank you should have added if it was #1,2 or 3.
HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM......close your bail manually instead of trying to close it like a child or amateur. Save the life of your bail and save others the headache of hearing the CLANG. Nobody does this that an experienced fisherman. I see complaints constantly about inexperienced people buying reels and complaining. It becomes a no brainer and faster when you get used to simply closing the bail correctly. Honestly , I can not believe that this is even an issue.

Learning to do something different as a work around isn’t a fix. Not everyone has to be like you, sorry. If the bail is meant to flip, then whether you need it or not, it’s not operating correctly and needs to be fixed.

When casting into shallow water it’s nice to be able to set the bail and retrieve as quickly as possible to avoid getting snagged on structure along a shore 🤷♂️

I, too, close my bails manually, but the reel is designed to trip with the handle, or manufacturers wouldn’t make a bail trip. The reason a lot of pros close their bails by hand is they broke a bail spring and learned to fish without it-by closing the bail by hand. Then, it just becomes habit, and avoids any more broken bail (or bent bail, or lube/cleaning issues). Plus, reaching for the spool area is a great way to control casting distance, especially when fishing a lot of trees and brush.

Question (and I’m sort of new so don’t judge): when I cast, my bail will not turnover on its own, I always have to manually close it. How do I fix this?
