How To Fix A Dead GoPro 8

Спорт

My GoPro got wet and was toast. I couldn't get it to blink a light or start with either button and I tried several different charged batteries. My GoPro silicone button wore out and off after excessive use of hitting the button too much and with the GoPro Camera being out in the sun for 4 hours a day on my bike, it plated a toll on it with the heat on it. Once the silicone button wore off the GoPro 8 Camera was no longer water proof. I didn't realize the inside of it was exposed. I had just got caught in the rain and made it to shelter as fast as I could when I was riding my bike one day. I put the GoPro into a zip lock bag as soon as I could and then I rode home. When I got home the camera was hot and I thought nothing of it. I took it out of the bag and let it dry off some more. When I went to go use it again, it wouldn't turn on with the quick start switch nor the on/off switch. I tried using 6 different batteries to get the GoPro going and I tried plugging the GoPro directly into the wall and it would not turn on at all. I tried drying it out in a bag of rice. I tried a can of air. I tried using the hair blow dryer on the cool setting and nothing was getting it to work. I tried to chat with GoPro service to see if I could try to get a trade in value and just buy another GoPro 8 because I like the Camera and it's still a good value under $300 and I have 6 batteries to use on it is why I wanted a working GoPro 8. I even asked about how they used to have the $100 trade in credit if I turned in a camera and they told me that they are not doing that at this time so, I was just going to hang onto the camera just in case they did offer the trade in deal down the road. I tried reseting to factory settings. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds. It's 30 seconds by the way and not 10 seconds like some sites suggests. It's only 10 if the camera is working properly. Anyways, I had the GoPro 8 on my kitchen counter and every time I walked by it, I would hit the quick start button hoping it the camera would turn on. After 9 days it finally turned on. It was a miracle. The GoPro 8 was functioning again. I turned on and off and it was starting and stopping. The next time I went biking and using the GoPro 8, it was working good. However the next time that I went to go use the camera, it wouldn't start with the quick start button but, I could turn it on and then use the quick start button. I was happy that I was at least able to get my GoPro 8 to work but, I wasn't happy that I had to leave the camera on in order to record. The way it was working made me suspect that the quick start button may be dirty so, because of hunch, I tried my Deoxit Gold Spray and the quick start button started to work like new again.
I wanted to show you how I got my GoPro Hero Black 8 to start working again after doing some things to fix it and to get my camera almost working like new again. I also wanted to show what can be done once the silicone button is worn off the camera start button or power button. Don't take your GoPro apart. Hopefully your GoPro camera silicone button isn't as worn as mine is but, if if it is and the button is still soldered on tight and you can feel the click still in the button, then the button should still be good. Give my suggestions that I mention in a video a try and hopefully that helps.

Lammcou Hero 8 Silicone Protective Case Sleeve Shell + Tempered Glass:
www.amazon.com/dp/B09BFB6ZHQ
CAIG DeoxIT Gold G5 Spray Contact Conditioner 5 oz. You can check Amazon prices and shop around the music equipment stores like Sam Ash or Guitar Center. You can find the spray from about $15 to $20 for a 5 oz can. I found some of the Amazon prices were very inflated.
It's on sale on this Amazon page at $13.99 at the time that I am posting this link. It normally sells on this page for $26.95 but, it's on sale for now. Don't pay over $20 for this.

Here's a can from Guitarcenter for about $20

I bought my DeOxit Gold Spray for $19.99 with a price match at Sam Ash. I had a very old amplifier receiver that when we turned it on, it would buzz and the lights would take a while to get to full power. The radio tuner crackled and the volume knob crackled when we turned them until I sprayed the DeOxit Gold on the knobs and now the amp/receiver works good.
You can try cheaper contact cleaners but, I can't tell you if they will work. I've had lots of success with the DeOxit Spray on amps and volume controls and now with cleaning my GoPro quick start button.

I tested out the sleeve protection last Saturday when I got caught riding my bike in the rain and it was still working after I got home.

Thanks for sharing your experience - do you think that spray is safe to use inside the gopro where the battery sits and also in the charging port?

I sprayed my battery contacts with it. The spray usually works good on contact stuff. You can use it to clean up an old amp that's got cracking in the knobs or any kind of volume knob that has a creates a crackling noise when you turn the volume up. The spray is good on contacts. Spray it and let it dry out.
