Matt, I've been waiting a long time to say "told you so!" Love the video bud. I was very fortunate to learn the technique from Ned himself 12-13 years ago. It was a lot of fun when maybe a dozen of us used it locally. It's mainstream now, so staying ahead of the curve now is the fun part. Let me know when you want to part 2. I need another trip to California, and another to break my PB.

Love the Ned Rig. The lake I fish at is very tough in the late fall and winter and the Zman TRD just flat out gets the job done. I have turned a lot of local guys on this technique and they are loving it!

As much as I hate to admit this, I’ve struggled severely to catch my first bass of 2019. The fish haven’t moved up and just have not been doing much. Normally I’ve caught a lot of numbers and numerous 6lb+ bass by now. This year has just been strange here in Northern Arizona. So, after being frustrated for so long, my fiancé told me to just grab a confidence bait that’s a finesse presentation and just go have fun. No pressure, no expectations. I grabbed my terminal tackle box, and a handful of Ned Rig worm packs and hit the river. 2nd cast on a PB&J Ned Worm I caught my first bass of 2019. Ran out of light so I went back with a couple friends the following day and caught 9 or 10 bass on the Ned Rig again. I used PB&J, California Craw and Coppertruese. The Ned Rig has been a confidence Rig and bait since it first came out. I’ve been so hard on myself trying to smash my PB which is 14lbs 1oz I caught back in 2010 on Lake Fork Resevoir in Texas where I was born and raised. I allowed myself to become blind, I got myself out of focus, beat myself up and lost so much confidence in myself. It’s been brutal. My fiancé made me slow down, and just go have fun. That was the reset I needed. I know I’m not the only one that has moments like this so if any of you guys are going through something similar, just slow down. Grab a finesse rod and a few packs of confidence baits and go have fun. The Ned Rig works, in all places and all times of the year. I have yet to try any of the Roboworm Ned Rig worms but I for sure will now. I’ve mostly used the Z-Man products, I’ve taken 4” Strike King Ocho’s and used them. 4.5” Zoom Finesse worms cut down work amazing as well. I hope my story can inspire or even help someone that’s going through a similar rough patch like I was just in. Y’all just go out and have fun, don’t be too hard on yourselves. Matt, thanks for the tips and advice as always Brother. Always look forward to the videos you and Tim put out. You guys spend so much money and time out doing what you guys love, just to teach all of us. I appreciate it sincerely. I hope all is well with you guys and the families. Stay safe, keep having fun and I look forward to many more videos!! God Bless you guys and all y’all do for us!!

Thanks guys. Deadly lure and presentation. It's part of my "panic box", as Ike terms it... I always have one tied on when fishing our cooling lakes from late fall through late winter when most of our lakes are frozen. Great lure in it's typical setup, but there's ways to fine-tune it, too. It's also one of the best ways to fill a limit and/or catch a biggun' in the heat of the summer when things seem to shut down...

In the midwest, we've been putting small plastic bodies on light jigheads, and fishing them similarly for years. you can see ancestors of the ned rig in the form of the beetle spin, the jig worm, and the slider. "Ned" is Ned Kehde, long-time Kansas guide and In-Fisherman contributer, who refined this particular version over many years before z-man marketed it. His goal has always been maximum catching efficiency with the simplest and most affordable gear possible.

I set a goal this year to catch fish on at least 3 new bait I never tried (I met this goal!). The ned rig was the first one that I succeeded with. The first fish I caught, I was fishing from the bank and snagged a rock maybe 3 feet from shore but shallow enough that I could see my bait. I shook it lose and it rocketed over the rock towards the bank and a black blur just shot off from the right and engulfed it faster than I could tell what happened. Bass was only 8-9 inches, but he wanted it. I set my goals at the end of 2016 on Facebook and reposted them roughly every month or so with a progress report because of what Matt said in a video last year about making goals public and accountability! Would love to see a year end video from TacticalBassin to discuss their goals from last year and next year! I am getting ready to start thinking of my goals for next year already!

I noticed every other spin rod by Dobyns in tacklewarehouse is less expensive but sadly they all have the exposed front plastic threads I so dislike to feel on my index finger.

Been using this Rig out here in the west since 2010. I read an article about it while watching videos of guys catching bass in midwestern areas. I stuck a yum dinger on a ball jighead and caught spots from shore like crazy. Fishing it locally , a few guys asked what i was doing , they said they had never heard of the Ned rig. Im not surprised it caught on so big out here as i have done well on spotted bass waters in california on the bait. Though i throw a different version of it , it works amazing none the less. I completely agree on how you said to present it Matt. I fish this rig on slack line , and leave it sit. It may be boring at first , but it can pay off nicely if you are patient.

Very heavy power fisher but when the bite gets weird I usually have no back up plan. This sounds pretty good to have in my box. Going to the river this weekend we’ll see if I have to use this

When I was a kid, I started putting worms on jigheads, fishing for smallmouth. I even cut them in half when they got all chewed up. I never thought of it actually having a label. Lol

Good video. Informative. Love me the Z-Man TRD 2.75” worms in green for Midwestern smallmouth & largemouth bass. Lighter is better. I really like Z-Man Jigs in 1/20 and 1/15 oz. weights for shore and stream fishing. 1/15, 1/10 and, if you really have to, 1/6 oz for boat fishing. Z-Man Jigs come crazy sharp and have a baitkeeper barb near the jig weight. Sharpen your hooks and retire your knots and you can get a whole day out of the bait. Use white braid (10#) with a flouralcarbon leader 6-8#) so you can line watch. For working in weeds, try Texas rigging by bending the jig hook to hide the hook in the bait. I stretch the plastic before using as this releases the salt or whatever. Bait becomes more deadly the older it gets. Do not mix Z-Man plastic with any other baits. Senkos make a 3” Fat that still rocks if you are looking for a sinking bait. You can always trim a 4” Senko too. Love your videos. Thank you.

I get bit on the ned rig as well as other lures using z-man shroom heads. I also lose a lot of fish because they seem to be able to easily throw the hook, probably because of the leverage from how those hooks are weighted.

Today, I went fishing for my mental health. I knew conditions were terrible (windy, cold front, constant misty rain, chocolate milk water), but I needed to scratch that itch. A chatter bait got my biggest, but as I fixed a tangle back at the car, I switched to the mushroom head rig with a senko and instantly caught two more, back to back casts. Not big, but instant bites and 'em both.

I've got checks in 5 out of my last 6 tournaments throwing the ned rig. All 5 tournaments were tough conditions and not many bites to be had.

I thought about trying the NED rig but used half a senko on a small shakyhead instead. Saved me a lot of snags.

The half senko is a killer! It doesn't stand up the same but it definitely gets bit.

Never used Z-man plastics, love their chatterbaits, never used their plastics. My personal best/favorite is an odd one for the NED, BassPro 3" Stik-o w/ Fluke Tail. Not as salty as some (moderate buoyancy) and that small fluke tail just does something. Also they are super cheap for a large amount w/ decent colors. This is one of the few things I actually buy at BassPro these days.

Straight honest I was in highcool 2004 and thought about the dragonfly lure. My dad and I talked about it multiple times. You will not see it on the market in Cabela's, Bass Pro shop, Bassin Magazine, In-Fisherman etc. We talked about prototype and all. Now in around 2014 or so we got our market on dragonfly lures. There's a handful now. Back then it was catch or make your own. Still my biggest regret in life. Young and unsure about the future.

I'm about to go fish a pressured pond with 11lb Bass. They stock it with trout two times a month. I'm thinking about getting into big swimbaits and trying some trout imitation baits. Today I'm gonna try the Ned rig, this pond is tough. I caught a 4lb bass on a shaky head there.
