Neko Rig Fishing For Bass: Everything You Need To Know!

Спорт

The Neko Rig continues to gain popularity as one of the most adaptable finesse presentations for bass fishing. It can be fished shallow, deep, or around cover. Its simple to rig, easy to fish, and bass love it! Here's what you need to know!
The key to the Neko presentation is the rigging. Once you've got that part dialed, the rest is very simple. Its naturally a very adaptable presentation but with a few simple modifications it becomes even more universal! Today we're covering how we set up the rig, our favorite baits for the presentation, and a few tricks we use to get more bites.
Below you'll find links to all the gear discussed in the video. We've included our favorite colors, sizes, and hooks for each. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item .

Awesome video Tim !!! We've been throwing the Fluke style baits here on Ft. Loudon since last year at this time and I mean EVER SINCE !!! We haven't stopped lol . We started using the Zman Jerk Shad and the Zman Neko ShroomZ weights . The baits are scented and their weights go through the plastic so much easier . It's been a great presentation to throw right in the middle of a busting school and let it go to the bottom . Some times a schooler hits it on the fall and it'll also get to the bottom pretty quick on the heads of the big lazy girls underneath the school lol ...

Like shakeyheads I have two under the radar worms I love for this technique, the Grandebass Airtail and the Gene Larew Tattletail. The tattletail has a very thin tail that has a teeny paddle tail on it that gives a very slight swim. The Airtail as its name implies has an air filled tail that gives a killer kick when twitched on either a shakeyhead or Neko rig.

It's in the 40's in Ohio and raining, so very November like. I did manage to find the winter hiding holes for my river smallmouth though. They where biting like it was summer last weekend, except for a slower presentation. That weighted fluke is a good idea. I've seen it done with a jig head, just forgot about it. Plus I like the slower fall of a neko

Everyone sleeps on Z-Man's Bang StickZ for neko rigging. I don't get it.🤷🏼‍♂️ Bang StickZ have the TicklerZ end with four tentacles. It's thick like the ZinkerZ so it takes a neko weight better than a narrow worm. Also, the thick body has a nice snap when jerked underwater. However, the Bang StickZ is a FLOATING stick worm, unlike the ZinkerZ or other stick worms. With the durable Elaztech you don't need to use any bands, no need for rings and special pliers. I don't think I've ever seen the Bang StickZ featured in ANY KZread video; it boggles my mind!🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Tip for losing fewer weights (thanks Matt Stefan): push the weight through the 'neck' of the bait into the back of the head and you can leave the weight internal or push it out the 'mouth' of the bait for better contact and some sound. Either way due to the angle you have to come in at the weight cannot come back out very easily. You can also use the Neko as an upsized hover strolling setup!

neko rigs can be fished on much lighter line, rods, and terminal tackle, you can also use much smaller worms than you can with a shakey head. It's sort of the same idea as wacky rigging opposed to texas rigging a senko. A lot of people throw senkos weightless on an ewg hook with a medium heavy combo of some sort. When you wacky rig a senko, youre using small circle hooks and extremely light line on light rods. Same style of bait/presentation, different rigging technique thats more finessey.

I like your vids but they are just too long. I start losing concentration. Could you shorten the vids and show that you can also blank?

Great vid. Have you tried the Geecrack Neko Hack for rigging? Try a Get Net (Cultiva) Juster Crawler.
