HOW TO DO A ONE-FOOT SPIN - FIGURE SKATING (journeybacktotheice)

Hi, everyone! In this video I will be going over the basic one-foot spin. This is a beginner friendly skating tutorial where I go over both entrances, standstill/pivot and back crossovers. I’ve broken everything down into small and easy steps. I’ll leave time stamps for the different sections below. Make sure you watch the two-foot spin tutorial before starting your one-foot spin. The one-foot spin will help you prepare for the scratch spin and many other fun spins!

I can do the wind up but somehow Im stepping down straight - how do i stop that and step down correctly?

From what you mentioned I would spend time practicing forward edges on a line to help with your entrance edge. Once you have completed the wind up you want to push onto a strong forward outside edge that will curve long enough to make what many refer to as a "snail" shape on the ice. It also sounds like you might possibly be stopping completely before stepping forward into the spin. This could also be a reason why you are going straight and not curving. Making that transition one smooth motion and confidently pushing into a forward outside edge should help!

Is 17 to old to start learning? I read that you have to have trained ballet as well and I haven't since I was 5.

Absolutely not! I didn't start until 18 and I'm currently working on getting my axel and double salchow consistent! I never did ballet when I was younger and I can do a catch camel, Y spin, cannonball, and other spins that require flexibility. You don't need any prior dance training to skate :)
