I have cut Iva's nails. What a mission! She does not like it at all. Was only able to trim the front paws' nails and then two nails on one of the back paws. So I am trying to get her used to me touching her paws. Whenever I just put my hand on her back paw she moves away. Not loving her mom at this stage... Maybe I should take her to get it trimmed and see if I can pick up a few tricks there as well. The clippers shown in this video is AWESOME! Soooooo much better than the guillotine ones. Thank you for the wonderful videos!!

Great information in your videos. We have an 8 month old half Great Dane and half Saint Bernard. He's pretty big and he didn't like the grinder either. Thank you for the videos, so much help.

Great video! My Danes nails were so big an thick I couldn't get them into the clippers. They cut same as yours. I think her nails were an abnormality. So many people are afraid to cut nails in fear of injury. Just try bits...eventually it will become normal for you and your dog!

What's your suggestion for cutting GD's nails when they are already way too long?

How long does it take to "retrain" the quick... my danes nails are so long due to us being fearful. He lets us do it without a problem...but they are grown out. What is your suggestion for cutting nails once over grown?

  • @GreatDaneCare

Take them back slowly by doing a small trim every week. It will slowly draw back as you whittle down the overall nail length.

I bought a cordless Dremel and trained them to tolerate it. I don't like any scissor/clipper style because it leaves sharp edges.

  • @GreatDaneCare

The sharper edges are definitely a downside to scissor style clippers. You can choose to quickly sand the edges, but I’ve found that they naturally smooth out after a day or two

I feel that my great Dane whom we call (Doc) was very easy for us to train. First of all ,when he was a puppy we watched him closely. Since he slepted alot as a puppy, when he would wake up and smell around , I would take him out right away to go to the bathroom. I would talk to him in kind of short commanding words. He was house broken in one full week. He only peed once in the house in his whole puppy life. I always talked to him like a family child. Words like , Good boy, Do nice, I love you which in my case he would answer me back . For some reason of me staying calm and asking him to go for a walk, I would talk to him and not use heavy command words. I would just stop and he would stop with me. He never was a problem when I walked him. When he would see a neighbors cat or dog behind their fence , I would say Doc ! Do nice . Good dog. We are surrounded by pets, birds that I feed, and squirrels since we live in a rural section with a good size piece of property fenced in around us. I also have a chocolate lab that really loves to play ball. They were puppys and the same age. They are brothers of the doggy life. When they played together and started getting rough ,I would say Do Nice ! They both undrstand and quiet down right away. They are both 7 years old and of course Doc is just a little more slowed down. I hate the fact that a great dane has a shorter life time than regular size dogs. I don't know what I'll do without him. They both never broke anything in the house that wasn't theirs. As for their nails ; I can ,but I don't cut their nails. They love the girls at the vets and they let them trim away without a fuss. They don't like me cutting their nails but they love the girls. I hope my suggestions helped some of you dog owners that get anxiety problems when it comes to certain things we have to do with our pets. Anyway, The more people I meet , The more I love my dogs. Lol. God Bless All of You Animal Lovers.

Great Danes love one or two syllable names such as Max, Tank, Bo, and Doc. My chocolate lab is Bear. For females ,they like Mattie, Ginny , Macy, or what ever you pick in one or two syllable names. Just a suggestion.
