[HOW TO] Convert Manual Crank Windows to Power Windows - 2016 Silverado W/T

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video shows how to install a power window conversion kit for a 2016 Silverado. It should be similar on other vehicles that were equipped with crank windows form the factory. Don't forget to lube up the gaskets on the sides of the window track, to make it slide up and down easier.

    WOW, three years later and your still feeling the love from this video. It was very instructional, complete, clear and concise account of how to accomplish something I was unaware was possible. I picked up a 2008 GMC Sierra WT a bit over a year ago. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it has crank windows. But, now I know that there is a fix and I have a guide, step by step on how to do it. Thank you for the time and effort of making this instructional video. I'm glad you thought of it first ....lol And then made a video about the process.

    Didn't even know this kit existed. Was gonna try and jerry rig something. I just picked up a used Chevy cargo van on an auction site. Love the van other than the manual windows. Definitely gonna give this a try. Even if after a while it only works half the time and I have to hand crank the other times, I would love it.

    That's a good time to pull out your door speaker and make sure it has a rain shield. GM is notorious for leaving the speakers exposed to the elements and rainwater corrodes the connectors and kills the speaker. Making a duct-tape "shield/awning" over the back of the speaker will help.

    Do you notice the windows go up and down faster with the engine actually running? I've seen a few videos of this installation being done that when the vehicle is started, the windows move faster. I tried this kit on my 2004 civic SE sedan last fall (I live in Canada, I am curious to see how the motors handle -40C during our harsh winters), and I noticed the white splines that go over the crank piece - the door panel is too snug against the spline so it jams it up, I'll have to cut a larger whole around crank handle hole as so the spline can spin. I had to undo the whole project and put it on hold until this coming spring (March-April) due to rain, and try again later. You mention all this took you up to 15 hrs, and I don't doubt it. So much touch and go, it's fun but you learn it as you go. I also think that unless you have both sides connected (which is what I did to test my driver side door first), you end up with power problems, some fuse's blew. I'm doing it little by little every weekend in my condo's heated garage.

  • @fondupot

    @fondupot

    Yes, I absolutely can tell. When the engine is off, there is not enough voltage to run the passenger side up and down. Sometimes it gets stuck. But if the engine is running, I don't seem to have any issues.

    @@fondupot I may have missed it in the video, but what was the amp rating of the fuse you tapped into? I'm doing this mod on my 04 civic tomorrow and my ignition coil is only 15amps, I'm not sure it's strong enough to power the motors. The sunroof amp (not used on my DX) is 20amp, so I'm thinking that would be enough. I don't want my windows to be always on and drain the battery, but I don't think a sunroof would be active without having the key in the ignition anyway. Lots of testing tomorow with fuses...

Only thing I would have done different is the wiring at the door jamb where you putting wire around the connectorI would have got a couple pins and crimp the wire to it and put them in the empty spots of that connector:)

    It’s the 21st century, why can’t they make them standard equipment in trucks which should’ve been done since 2003 and in subcompact cars since 2009. The only manufacturing difference between manual and powered windows is a couple three way momentary switches, brushed dc motors with worm gear boxes, 35 feet of 18 gauge wire for a single cab truck which are cheap about only 35 dollars difference in manufacturing cost. If I ran an automaker. The cheapest half ton truck would have powered windows, mirrors, and locks, 6 way manual drivers seat, a 7 inch touchscreen stereo with apple CarPlay and Android auto, 4 speakers in the single cab consisting 2 1 inch soft dome tweeters and 2 6.5 inch midbass drivers with 140w rms total and a much better and smoother sound than cheap GM base model speakers.

    @@fondupot I like to sacrifice a little bit of profits to make the customers and employees happier. The soft-dome tweeters and woofers have ferrite magnets which are cheaper than neodymium but, very good sounding speakers can be made with them. Also, the midbass has a composite basket, rubber surround, treated paper cone for moisture resistance and sound quality, and a 1.25-inch voice coil which is much better than the 0.4-inch voice coils on other base model audio systems, the tweeters have a textile dome, felt on top of the pole piece, and composite frame. A class AB amplifier with 70 watts per channel, and 3rd order passive crossovers with electrolytic capacitors and ferrite core inductors because it has to be built to a price but, it will have sound quality comparable to mid-end bookshelf speakers. The base price would be 32,000 dollars for the single cab since it's an EV. The base powertrain would be a 50 KWh graphene battery and 350 hp RWD electric motor-axle the range would be 250 miles which is plenty for a general contractor plus the contractor will plug it in every time they come home. An extra 25 KWh, 50 KWh, or 75 KWh would be an extra 1500, 3000, or 4500 dollars respectively. A 150hp front motor would be an extra 1500 dollars, a 250 hp front motor would be 800 dollars more than the 150hp front motor. The trims would be base, plus, premium, and luxury instead of a million different trims and configs to confuse buyers. The plus model gets an option for vinyl seats, not just the base model but, the plus model's vinyl seats will have texturing to more closely resemble leather, more color choices, and leather style stitching.
