How To Color Metallic Gold With Prismacolor Pencils / with Numbers

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Creating the shine and reflections in a metallic object takes a lot of practice. I recommend practicing first on a page you don't care about. Creating metal is worth the time you put into learning it.
I have produced this video to show you my process. It's a two part video so the next video will also help. Once you get the process you can apply a metal look to any object.
Changing from gold to silver or brass is just a matter of changing your pencil color. Gold is highly reflective while gun metal is dull yet they still have the same reflective surface.
Once you master the reflective shine it will be easy to distort object into it for a more realistic look. I used prismacolor pencils and gel pen in this tutorial.

Well! So much for being happy with just using the metallic gold pencil to color the whole ring, necklace, mermaid scales, etc! I was really interested in how you were going to employ your favorite, Indigo Blue pencil, but you found a way! This is a classic representation of how you really TURBO CHARGE your objects!

This is so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing. Would love to see a tutorial on some of the other metals you have on your color pallette page (which was the BEST find for me!! so much good information). Particularly the coppers.

I've been looking for a tutorial that showed how to do a metallic color without using several brands of pencils or other materials. Thanks for this. When you started coloring individual scales, were you simply choosing random ones or was there a process you used to pick them? Also, have you tried adding colors, like for a rose gold or green gold? What about for silver and a silvery green or silvery blue?

My process is normally the same. I try to envision a metallic surface. I didn't include reflection in this tutorial. When I do metal I will normally reflect the surrounding areas. As for colors, its a matter of trial and error. Metal normally gives people the hardest time. You have to look with your eyes and draw what you see. Sometimes people draw what they think it should be. A metallic object or picture helps a lot too.

I say a beautiful book by Jade Summer that was greyscale flowers. I have Beautiful Nature by Nicole Stoker. If you have that book I'd love to do a greyscale with you. Selina Fenech may have some greyscale books that if you already have it, I'll check if I have it and if not, I'll be happy to buy it.

Mermaids Calm Ocean by Selina French. Funny because I just got another Mermaid book today and I'll be doing a review of it tonight. I like Selina French. I have almost her whole series or maybe the entire series. Her art is beautiful. The one I got today is by Jade Summer. It's totally different style. I'll compare the two so don't order until you see both.
