How To Clean Your Dirty Or Clogged Fuel Injectors

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I am going to show you how to diagnose a dirty or faulty fuel injector. Fuel injectors could be very expensive and also a lot of times hard to get to which makes being able to accurately diagnose a dirty fuel injector very crucial. I will also show you a trick you can use to rig up a cheap fuel injector cleaner that could help you clean your fuel injectors. Whether you are having lean codes (P0171, P0174) or missfire codes and you've ruled out an ignition missfire, you need to watch this video so you can diagnose fuel injector faults if any.

You are the only mechanic KZreadr I know that not only shows how to fix problems, but also show the basics of how the system works. That is great! And it helped me out so much when you explained how AC systems work. I ran into some problems, but I made sense of the diagram I made from your explanation and fixed the problem!

hi, i did'nt understand about how the electrical system of the fuel injector works, why is that when we turn the key to "start", the circuit is connected to ground? and thus reducing the fuel pressure. Does this means when there are no electrical signal to the fuel injector , the fuel injector sprays the fuel , and if there is electrical signal, the the fuel injector stops spraying fuel to the combustion chamber?

  • @johndooley8837

    @johndooley8837

@@astaghfirullahalzimastaghf3648 The fuel injector opens and sprays fuel when electric current flows through its internal solenoid valve coil, in the example here the current is pulsed by switching the ground connection on and off, it would be off or open when the key is turned off. Regarding the ground symbol, that is one of two common ground symbols, you can think of it as E for earth - a common British expression for ground.

@@johndooley8837 John nice explanation - The broom in marine electrical systems - my background- is typically DC grounding, more specifically DC chassis grounding - so with devices like an inverter/charger having both AC / DC components, for a DC short the chassis is grounded back to DC Neg Main Bus, and on ABYC compliant vessels, DC Neg Main Bus which is connected to engines / genset DC Negs etc the vessel's bonding system allowing DC current a path in the event of a DC short. EU standards-based vessels differ with the bonding systems. Some EU vessels will switch the DC Neg for battery switch or have both switched, where in US it is DC Pos that is battery switch. It is really odd for me to see so much exposed conductive DC neg. it is really odd for me but makes sense - just weird to see. It's always cool to see differing applications and how electrical systems work in differing industries.

This is a great video and really covers theory and practice well. Quite thorough. However, I have an issue: # Running the injectors in situ in this manner injects raw petrol to the cylinders which will wash the bores and find it's way into the sump oil and contaminate it. For this reason I would suggest carrying out this test on a warm engine, running it for a few minutes when done and carrying out an oil change after. So try to do this test at service time, rather than between services.

Always great videos. To make a fuel injector cleaning apparatus. I have used 65 Ford's (You Tube Channel) advice- remove the valve core from a tire valve, drill a hole in the center of the cap the size of straw, thread the straw through the cap, plastic weld or glue the straw to the cap, and place the open end of the valve over the injector feed stem. Worked great. Good to know the different ways you can make such simple apparatuses to clean fuel injectors.

Great ideas, excellent lessons! Wry and caustic as needed and easy on the eyes! - I have plenty of assorted sizes and lengths of shrink tube and a heat gun. I'll build a few mock-ups and if I can perfect them, part with one or two. - I have six candidate-injectors installed in my crate with 157,000 mi. that are suspect (was @35+mpg freeway now 22.5 max.) - I have a couple 9V batteries, and if those fail, a variable power supply. - I found an old TENS unit that runs on 9V batteries. It has pulse amplitude, duration, decay, and other adjustments to try. - I found an old A/C Manifold Gauge Hose Set that I already used last week to discover that my 50 PSI upper-deck pressure falls at least 10 PSI after shutdown. - I close the valve on the blue side then connect it to the rail, expecting about 60 PSI max. - I leave the yellow hose end dangling from the manifold to the ground as a bleed. After the test, I crack the blue valve allowing pressure to escape out the loose end of the yellow hose, eventually draining residual fuel away completely. - I ignore the red gauge side, but now, it runs up a crack of my mind that it shows a vacuum scale. I can connect it to the vac circuits -- stab the throttle wide open and snap-release it, easily correlating fuel and manifold pressures side-by-side simultaneously!! You're brilliant dude, and I haven't spent a nickel. Thanks bro.

A few things I've noticed about this cleaning procedure: - always wear eye protection and a mouth breathing mask: the hoses attaching the injector to the bottle spray break loose very easy and you'll get a shot right on your face. These carburetor cleaners are actually quite toxic with volatile components that once they get into your lungs, will stay in there and damage the tissue. - while spraying from the bottle has good enough pressure, it doesn't last long enough (the bottle will empty quite quickly). It is better to recover the fluid and build up a pressurized system (maybe use a bicycle tire pump) to reuse the fluid and keep cleaning the injectors. - always have the injector basket filter in place when cleaning the injector, so no debris get inside the injector. Rubber hoses easily will have tiny rubber particles dislodged by the chemical cleaner - I found out the injector gets cleaned better when back flushing it - no real need for an injector tester, just make sure to pulse-activate the injector while cleaning it by tapping on the battery connection - always install the cleaned injector right away in the car, don't leave it with the carburetor cleaner inside or at least flush it with distilled water - never use acetone or lacquer thinner, it will damage the injector - one or two small 9V batteries is plenty enough to activate the injectors. Use with an injector electrical plug from the junk yard - always smear some Vaseline over the seals (o-rings) before installing the injector, keep everything perfectly clean with no dust or dirt specs - the injectors should be cleaned at least every 60K miles or so, you will get improved engine torque and mpg

Just throwing an easier way to rig this up thats way faster.. 10mm fuel hose, take a tire valve cap, drill small hole in it and poke the carb clean hose through said hole in valve cap. Epoxy or Jb weld it so the carb clean hose is sealed in the valve cap, then jam the valve cap with hose through it into the rubber fuel line. Push other end of hose over the injector. Takes 5 mins to make and 20 mins for epoxy to dry. Works mint. May need a small hose clamp at the injector end if it comes off under pressure. Dosent require smaller and smaller hose and heat shrink either.

Did something like this a couple back. I pulled the rails, looped them together, zip tied the injectors to the rails, applied pressure with a garden sprayer full of injector cleaner through the test port, then fired the injectors individually using the same tester. I found one iffy one but it cleared up after a few pulse cycles.

I cleaned the fuel injectors on my '88 Isuzu Trooper several years ago, but I BACK-FLUSHED them: removed the tiny filter screen, then ran some carb cleaner through them via, like you, a couple pieces of tubing. Ran MUCH better. Thanks for the informative video: very understandable!

I needed to diagnose an injection problem on my 2014 XT-250. I tested the electrical portion with a VOM (aka: multimeter) and then used a 9v battery and a pair of test leads to energize the injector. I had made up a hose to fit the inlet port and sprayed brake cleaner through the injector while it was energized. Observed a nice cone spray from the business side so I was good to go.

***CAREFUL*** I do not recommend using a test light to test the ground side of the circuit. The drop in resistance from the different resistance within the test light will cause amperage going to the control module to be possibly higher than what the injector would send. This higher than normal amperage being sent to the control module can burn internal transistors and mean for a pricey control module replacement. I recommend using a logic probe that uses gated LEDs and external power to test sensitive circuits.

A 1k or 10k resistor inline with the test light wire to the battery would limit the current also, but too big a resistor may prevent your test light from showing when a "good current" is running through the light, and mislead you into thinking you have a weak wire...

amazing video but one important note, don't use light tester to test the signal going to ECU /ECM as it may burn that ECM ! better to use another appropriate device (Oscilloscope )

After watching your video I decided to remove and clean the 4 injectors in my 1987 RX-7 turbo. The entire procedure took me about 3 hours but it was successful and my car is definitely running better! I use some car software kzread.info/dash/bejne/qn-pp5ekirafY5c.html to manage my maintenance schedules and track parts and performance. I've decided to add this as a maintenance requirement to do once per year. Thanks for the great video!

If you use a : instead of the . mark to indicate time -- it will make a clickable time stamp to bring you straight to that point in the video. For instance, 4:20 and 10:52 works much better than 4.20 and 10.52
