As dirty as this rascal was you are doing much more with your laser than you have time for tutorials, Nice to see someone using the tool and taking care of it. Thank you for taking the time to share these tips with us. I hope you have a blessed week. Dale

Very through explanation and great camera work as well! Just cleaned mine, but I also did the exhaust fan as it was just as dirty. it also looks like I will be replacing the exhaust hose as it is getting pretty laced with crud as well.

Frickin' great video to Frickin' Laser Designs!! Appreciate the details you provided!! Excellent explanation and demonstration! I had been doing the level of cleaning suggested by GF, but when I found your video, jumped right in and now she looks like new again!! I agree with your comments about the fan. If GF could "fix" that, it would be sooooo much easier to clean! Maybe someday...

Great video, but I'd like to point out you have two more windows to Zeiss wipe. The first is on the left side of the head itself. The other one is inside the left side of the machine, just above where we can see your hand around the 4:57-5:00 mark of this video. If your Forge has been acting up and you haven't been cleaning that window it could be the culprit because the smoke gets drawn right past it so it gets dirty quickly.

That's kind of you to say. I'm glad you found the video useful. Be sure to watch the addendum video and a more recent video I posted on how to clean the air assist for more info. There are others who have gone to great lengths to clean the exhaust fan and have documented their journey. You might want to check those out also. Thanks again. Best to you!

Thanks for posting this! I sell art and crafts on the side from mine and it has gotten really nasty, similar to yours. We're about to move it indoors from our garage setup (overheating) and we're going to deep clean it before bringing it indoors

Hi. I have two other videos that discuss cleaning. One covers the fan in the back (the Addendum video). It is an older video, much like this one. There are those who actually remove the fan, but it is more difficult and, depending on how you handle it, void your warranty. My second video covers the air assist. It is more recent. Thank for watching and commenting. Best to you!

I'm not sure what GF recommends. When I made the video they had little information on cleaning. Since then they have added more. Ultimately it is up to you. You certainly do not have to do it after every job. I think once a month (light to moderate use) would probably suffice.

I do mine every 20 hours of cutting or when it starts looking dirty. Different materials deposit different amounts of crap on it. One thing I do to make cleaning easier is that areas that get a lot of resin on them like the fold down flap on the front, I just cover it in wide masking tape, so I can just peel it off when it gets dirty. A lot easier than scrubbing the plastic and metal.

Frickin' Laser Designs and Tutorials do you have another machine you use now or do you just not laser much period?

  • @FrickinLaserDesignsTutorials

I do not have another machine. I simply don't laser as much as I did. When I do laser, it is for the purpose of a video or for small presents. When I first got it, I had a lot of things in mind, but they involved the passthrough. Years went by with no passthrough. They've just now gotten it to work. I imagine I'll be using it more again now that it's functional. Do you have a Glowforge?

@@MrChucklepuff , roger that. Good luck on the clean. I did this video before Glowforge posted any directives about cleaning and before others posted videos and such. With that said, be sure to look at other videos and compare. I know in this one I missed the air assist hiding behind/under the laser head. Take care.
