After my last video, people inquired about cleaning the exhaust area of the Glowforge. I had not looked at it and was uncertain as to how dirty it was. When I finally took a look, I was shocked at the caked on filth. Here is a quick look at cleaning it for the first time. Everything is off the cuff and on-the-fly. There are no major edits to the video.
Thanks for watching.

It is so crazy hard to get it really clean. I am tempted to use a dremel to cut out that stupid grill. You could just add a cover of wire mesh over the lip if you need a grill (to keep out mice?).

Not sure if you looked inside at the other side of the fan also. When I cleaned mine I was shocked at the inside had caked on layers of gunk on the fan blades and fan. Not sure hot to get that off easily. Not easy maneuvering inside the glowforge tight space.

Are you talking about unplugging the laser head or try removing the lens (or something else)?

Not recommended by glowforge: I took my fan out for cleaning. It uses hex or torque bits. There are 4 long screws securing it. You will have to unplug the fan and one other cord for accessibility. The cords have a tab which you press in and then jiggle slightly to remove. Take pictures to remember where things go during reassembly. It is incredibly hard to reach some of the screws. After reinstalling I only replaced the top two screws. WARNING: DO NOT STRIP YOUR SCREWS. I did and it was awful. It made the project take hours longer. It is quite necessary to remove the fan as it gets immensely caked in filth and prevents good ventilation. Please be careful if you try this method. Take your time, be patient, and be confident. I dont take responsibility for damage to your machine. This method is not endorsed by glowforge.
