How to check hoverboard battery. At your own risk.

It is easy and takes about 10 minutes to open it up and see the battery. Do at your own risk, use common sense, dont lick battery. I can't guarantee this will not void ur warranty but I dont think so.

For more peace of mind keep a chemical fire extinguisher next to it when charging. I'm not worried about it. I own multiple 18650 batteries and non have blown up under my care. But if you must get rid of it put it on eBay/Craigslist and you might just get double your money.

The battery is only part of the problem at large. The main issue with balance scooters is that every single one of them is made in China (or at least I don't know of any that aren't). The Chinese are notorious for intellectual property theft; they can rip off anyone's idea or product, including those of each other, in a stupefyingly short amount of time. They're also very good at convincing people that their cheap product is actually a name brand, resulting in counterfeiting. To cheapen value, they use cheap components. In the case of batteries, they might mix old & new cells, use counterfeit cells & labels, or bend the wires due to improper/hasty installation, all can be recipe for weak performance or potential overheating. At this point, you might be better off making your own battery using genuine Samsung or LG cells, BMS, and shrink wrap (all can be bought). It's also possible the manufacturer of your balance scooter knows their product is bad, so they intentionally made the warranty become void after you disassemble the scooter to see for yourself if the product is genuine, or specifically design the scooter such that it goes bad after your warranty expires. Moreover, after the explosions of 2015, UL enforced certification 2272. Since then, explosions are no longer a concern (albeit, they can still happen), but now the new concern is the lemon rate. I've seen a noticeable amount of balance scooter reviews indicating defective units, and while this still could be a result of cheap components or hasty installation, it could also result from the rigorous testing in order to pass the UL2272 certification. This is similar to environmental regulation for cars, in which the regulation forces manufacturers to try so hard to make the car "safe", you end up sacrificing reliability. Thus, until someone decides to manufacture balance scooters outside of China (e.g. USA), or until the President punishes the Chinese for their IP theft, then the best balance scooter you can buy at this point is the Razor Hovertrax 2.0 or its DLX variant. Razor owns the inventor's patent.

Pat Medina And if for any reason you would rather not have a Razor, then I recommend these other three companies: Jetson Electric, Swagtron, and Segway. If you get anything else, then determining what you get on the inside will be difficult, as most other scooters share a nearly identical exterior, but can be built very differently (as shown here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4arzbuth5DgY5c.html ).

Hello KZread, I own a hoverboard with a broken battery. We know for a fact it's a battery. Anyone know if it can be sold for parts or just selling it for some sort of money?

I haven't heard of a great way online. I would consider craigslist.com or FB market place and just list of for parts. I wouldn't expect much for it.
