Hook it up like this: Console-Splitter-Cap Card-TV
Here is an example: PS4 to Splitter to Elgato to TV
Sick of recording your footage via component? or even worse, composite? ..... try this trick, and then feel free to capture away, it's not an upscaler but it will get the job done, and it will strip the hdcp (not just a splitter, but also an hdcp stripper). This is very useful on a console like the PS3 which always has the HDCP on. The PS4 has an option to turn it off, so you can capture games, but netflix, youtube, hulu, and any other video app will block the capture card, with no way to launch these apps with HDCP turned off. Now you can turn HDCP on, and launch any app you want, and then capture via HDMI. Component maxes out at 1080i, while HDMI can go to at least 4k!

    Thanks, it works! TIP: If it doesn't work for the first time, switch from HDMI out 1 to HDMI out 2 (or vice versa). The splitter needs to split the signal (OR, in this case, believe it has to!) to get rid of the HDCP protection. But you don't NEED to output to two different devices to do this!

    Most people use this device to record data (games, videos, etc.) In my case, I'm glad I found this video, because I need it to take input from an HDCP encoded HDMI output from a laptop and use it as input to another laptop via an "HDMI to USB converter" that I own. This isn't for any recording, rather this is for a robotics application. I've read about some laptops built before 2009 that have non-HDCP encoded HDMI outputs but I didn't want to buy a ten year old laptop. Curiously the HDCP protocol supports applying HDCP to only a "region" of the screen, which was intended so that an operating system could protect a video window without protecting the rest of the screen. But MacOS (and I presume Windows) is not smart enough to use this feature, so even when there's no HDCP content on a desktop, the HDMI signal is still encoded with HDCP between all four corners of the screen. I presume this product uses the crack documented here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection#Master_key_release

    1:13 PS3 can output 1080p over component just fine, though you should capture the PS3 games at 720p only anyway. And the HDMI splitters were widely available and cheap since forever, it's safe to say that most PS3 captures weren't done via component.

  • @uncannyx

    @uncannyx

    3 жыл бұрын

    wrong, wrong, and wrong again. sorry but i 100% disagree with everything you said PS3 limits component to 1080i, component cables can handle 1080p but the PS3 doesn't do it. Sony's own site says that their component cables only go up to 1080i, they have even constrained it in the settings menu. You should only cap PS3 in 720p? lol..... not all HDMI splitters strip HDCP ... your comment is worthless, thanks bye

    Buy a 1.3b or 1.4b 1x2 hdmi splitter the one in blue and white text is the one you want, any other splitters will only display a blank output, beware only buy the ones listed above as they will work with hd encryption any other brand of hdmi splitters will result in a blank screen no video output. They are not HDCP compliant.

    + sand wich. Yes the widescreen that I mostly use for videos is a tv and it is new enough to be hdcp compliant. Some say that an actual monitor is better for a pc for things like email and other text but I don't know if it really matters. I bought a tv instead of a regular monitor as I really only use it for video. And it is a tv if I would need to use it straight from the antenna and it also has vga, dvi and hdmi inputs and I use all of them. It does sound like there may have been some kind of change with that update that would now require hdcp. Have you contacted PlayStation to ask them if that is it and if there is any setting that will allow viewing? This hdcp stuff was done years ago and although they knew this would be problems for a lot of us for years, as usual they don't care a whole lot. "Buy new hardware" - no you buy me a new monitor or tv.

    Hey buddy. Thanks for the reply. Yes I've called PlayStation. I just did some research and I'm quite sure my monitor doesn't support HDCP because I can't find any mention of HDCP in the specs and manual sheets. It's quite sad because I just bought this monitor last week specifically for my PS4. I also found out that most/some Samsung, AOC (the one I just bought sadly), Acer, ViewSonic monitors don't have HDCP support. Some monitors that have HDCP support are Asus, BenQ, Philips, LG, etc.

    i'm working on this now. trying to avoid purchasing the hue sync box. instead, i'm trying splitting the signal from my Fire TV stick to my computer and my TV. i'll also need an HDMI to USB converter so that i can input to my mac, since the HDMI ports on mac are only output. i'll then run the hue sync app on my computer, and hopefully my lights will sync to the TV. www.reddit.com/r/Hue/comments/8qk8u2/hue_sync_on_everything/?sort=new

    do you mean the longer the video, the more it desyncs? i only had that problem when my pc was old ... or the software was just crappy... so i would ask, is your PC capable of recording in such high quality? if yes, what software do you use? if you mean the device is getting worse and worse the longer you have it, i would recommend a new power supply. the only problems i ever had was because of a dying power supply

I know it can't be my capture card (Pengo) or my recording software (OBS) because I notice this delay only happening when I use the HDMI Splitter. And I only use that for PS3 footage. I wanted to know will this fix the TV screen issues for me? I mean I just started up my HD PVR 2 and when I started recording with the DHCP off my TV screen was really messed up, the brightness was all over the place and the sharpness was just all jagged. Everything was fine on the capturing software though, but it was just unplayable on my TV. Will getting this splitter fix that issue and make my TV playable again? It only happens when I’ve connected my TV and PS4 to the HD PVR.

  • @uncannyx

    @uncannyx

    3 жыл бұрын

    you will be able to turn HDCP back on and then cap+play on TV, so this might be the solution for you.... but, are you sure this issue isn't the HD PVR 2? I owned an HD PVR and sometimes had issues where I would need to turn it off and on again, sometimes more than once

  • @RatedRRaj

    @RatedRRaj

    3 жыл бұрын

    Uncanny X Why would you need to turn it on and off (your PVR) ? Maybe this could be the issue, but I thought this issue was for everyone though. I can explain it better for you. Basically my PS4 is always set to 1080p and has the best playable resolution when I’m playing in terms of best settings e.g. brightness and contrast etc. After I set up my HD PVR 2 earlier for the first time, I turned off the HDCP on the PS4 and restarted the PS4 so it can connect to the recording software on my laptop to show up which it did, but the settings on the TV had changed drastically. It wasn’t super bad but the contrast and sharpness just looked bad. This only happens when Im connected to the HD PVR, otherwise its absolutely playable. Changing the TV settings wont make a difference as the HD PVR is relaying the footage back to the TV. So this is what I wanted to enquire, what is it that makes the TV screen so messed up? Is it because the HDCP is disabled? Because the video is being displayed through the PVR and not the HDMI? Would the splitter fix this issue so that when I am connected to the HD PVR my TV will run fine again? I dont think this issue has anything to do with my TV. Thanks.

  • @RatedRRaj

    @RatedRRaj

    3 жыл бұрын

    Uncanny X Actually I managed to figure it out, it was my TV settings because they changed whenever the HDMI output was switched. So I changed my TV settings to suit the PVR’s output but the only problem is the doesn’t display the full RGB range for the PS4, even though it is set to FULL. I just need to find a way to fix this.

    Uncanny X Yea it captures with HDCP. I don’t really care about using other applications or whatever, just games but I need my TV to its best settings when I’m recording. Thats why I’m thinking of buying the splitter so that hopefully the PS4 will display the RGB to FULL range. Its always on full but as soon as it connects to the PVR2 it only shows LIMITED RGB even if you set it to full. Do you think the splitter might solve this problem? So that the PS4 will still act like its connected to HDMI and not the splitter? Im also trying to find out a way to listen to the PS4 audio on my headphones because whenever I plug headphones into the controller the audio stops getting getting recorded, only the footage shows instead.

    Question - does your TV panel support 4k? if not it never will if tv, sony da 1800es, and fire stick support 4k. - double check your settings on ALL 3 of these. If even 1 is set to 1080 the whole thing is stuck on 1080 This also includes which HDMI port the fire stick is connected to. This can cause issues from time to time as well. Last bit of advice - Buy an HDMI cable rated for 4k. believe it or not but just the wrong cable can cause this issue
