Such an awesome plane. Good memories. I was 12 and my dad found the 150 he soloed in when he was 16. Many others at my local airport had done the same and welcomed its return when it came home after 20 years of being sold. I then got my private pilot in that airplane so did my brother! I love the 150

I like Josh. Don’t get me wrong, but I heartily disagree if you think that his voice is easy to listen to. As a former radio announcer, I find his enunciation to be lacking. Josh is a knowledgeable, excellent R/C instructor, but everyone cannot appreciate his fast-paced speech combined with his occasional omissions of the odd syllable.

Josh says you have to go smaller if you go with a 3s but I bet you can get that thing in the air on a 1000mah 3s without any problems. I've found ft planes are spec'd up to be ultra lightweight, the ft cub specs with plastic gear servos and a tiny 1000mah 3s is 489g. my cubs fly on a racerstar 2212 1400kv swinging a 9x5 prop, metal gear servos, two cams on a switcher, a 800mw vtx, voltage osd and a 2700mah 3s and comes in at 890g and flys great but I've had the thing in the air on a 4000mah 3s and weighing just over 1kg several times lol.

Thanks for the detailed steps and sharing this video. We have built the FliteTest plane using your video and instructions but we appear to have problems in having the plane stay up in the air and looking for some guidance. The plane does a nose dive or flips down very soon after take off (travels abt 3 - 4 ft in the air) before either doing a dive bomb or just crashes down. We did observe the plane turns counter clockwise (or towards left) when we try to drive it on the ground. Are there any rules of thumb or checklist so we can try to identify any imbalance/weight or other issues that might be contributing to this behavior? thanks in advance.

When you are constructing the fuselage (at time spot 9:23 in the video) when you are fitting the push rods through to the rear slots for the elevators , would it be practical to use either plastic straws or narrow gauge aluminum tubing to fit the push rods through to give a better more solid guide ? If so the straw or tubing could be glued at either end for added security ?

I like the Commuter, because it's very much like the Cessna that my Dad taught me how to fly in! Putting a Nose Gear on a Cub wouldn't do it, nor would blowing up the Commuter Plans... Although for many others, that would be a possibility to consider. Good idea though, if I can find someone to laser cut a kit for me. My old hands can't cut out an entire Kit from plans...

some late info. at 1:00:00, yeah, i always like to install aileron servos as NEAR the Wingtips as possible; so that i get maximum Reduction of roll-axis stability. and i always like to Leave the wingtips UNfinished; cuz everyone knows that a wing should have Two, completely Different profiles. at 1:07:23, i always like a wing to make Extra, Avoidable Drag, by having a step at the underside, just forward of the hinge lines. ( i just don't like flying an efficient and well-behaved model. ) at 1:26:59, in other words, Optimal location of cg (conventional airframe) is at THIRTY percent of chord; or a bit forward of 30. at 38:58, it matters not, what materials are used. the use of a box-fuselage design WILL result in excess mass IN the tail boom. (otherwise known as, tail-heaviness in the dom. distribution of mass.) UNLESS, steps are taken to Reduce the amount of mass, located aft of the c-m/cg. ( such as tape-covered cutouts; ideally, tail boom construction Should include two formers; this will allow the (safe) removal of a lot of aft-located MASS. ) it should be understood that the cg balancing process has NO affect on (a wonky) dom. the ONLY fix for tail-heaviness in the dom is, Relocation/redistribution of Mass. in order to evaluate the dom of a model, establish a fulcrum beneath the fuselage, at a point that vertically aligns with 25 percent of chord/mac; when the fuselage is level. if the model does not Almost balance, the dom is Not optimal. since the problem is Tail-heaviness, adding mass forward of the c-m is Not the correct solution. at linked illustration, Optimal location of c-m for a typical high-wing airframe is indicated. it can be seen that c-m Should be located on the thrust line, at point that vertically aligns with 25 percent of chord/mac. all of these facts are known; they are scientific fact. if a hobbyist wants to make a 'good' model, the design Should CONFORM to the Science. any model designer/builder should understand that an optimal dom Must be Planned for; it don't just happen. googletranslate s3.amazonaws.com/assets.flitetest.com/article_images/medium/truecg-jpg_1384168691.jpg wright.nasa.gov/airplane/shortw.html some science, see 'airplane balance' section. Cool thanks for the link. Question, what google translate language can i use to decode everything you just said? I've never known anyone named dom? Is that short for dominic? Flitetest must really appreciate your highlights of their video. I checked out your channel, i thought these were some nice highlights- pick any video. 0.00 have an idea of what you want to say before you turn on the camera. 7:13 kzread.info/dash/bejne/hqCqypWlhsvRhLg.html try not to show other peoples videos on a screen filmed with your shaky camera, it just don't work. I could not find any tutorials on how to build a RC airplane. I saw a nice video where you talked about your little yellow plane, but all I learned was that dom or D.O.M. (as it should be written) stands for Distribution Of Mass. I am new to the RC airplane world, but i have now built 4 Flitetest planes and there isn't much Mass to Distribute. 90% of the mass is from the electronics. The P.T.W and the large control surfaces seem to handle any imbalance the airframe might incur. What do you think?

I think that is what he meant. This is definitely one of the harder planes to make in the swappable series so if you can make this, you can make most anything else in the swappable series

Is it ok if I use power pack c rather than a? I’m gonna do my first plane with power pack c cuz most your planes use it, thanks

No, powerpack C is massive. It will not fly with electronics that big.

Is there anyway you guys could go over the radio and receiver setup with the super bee with the spektrum ix 12? i have watched your earlier build video with the graupner radio with no avail. i just bought this radio and have bound to a Spektrum AR610 i have placed in the superbee and can not get the mix correct for differential.

Here is the link for a DX9 Dif thrust setup, it'll probably be close to the same as the 12: www.flitetest.com/articles/differencial-thrust-setup-on-a-spektrum-dx9

If I scale this up, will it work with a powerful motor?

yep. I was gonna scale mine up 200%. It COULD work on a B power pack but I think a C pack would work just fine.

I DEFINITELY want at least a 180-200% version!! Should be comfortable with a C Pack sized Motor, which is right where I want it. 😊

Which one? Some of the FliteTest Radial motors are on the site, individually only though, not as part of a power pack. The biggest one currently is a little larger than the standard C pack motor
