Finally a tutorial by Josh again!
Such an awesome plane. Good memories. I was 12 and my dad found the 150 he soloed in when he was 16. Many others at my local airport had done the same and welcomed its return when it came home after 20 years of being sold. I then got my private pilot in that airplane so did my brother! I love the 150
Great video as usual. I'm not even building it right now, just enjoying the video :) Someone needs to put one of these on floats!
I'm currently building it, and it looks amazing. Thanks for the tutorial and plans!
Beautiful little airplane, guys... Fantastic job! 😃 And thanks, Ben!
Love these build videos, Josh. Hope to build one some day. You are the master of the bevel cut!
Great video as always. Will be ordering this kit this week!
Can’t wait to buy a commuter of my own!
I DO have to admire your "tenacity", tackling all those bends, bevels, and small parts it takes to build this plane. ((This Old Goat will HAVE to buy the kit, if he wants to make this one! Too much to go wrong, building one from "scratch"!).
So good to see a new vid this channel has inspired me to get inti the hobby. Ggreat production you guys really seem like pros.
That is a beautiful plane. Nice concise video.
Can't wait till mine arrives in the mail!
Thank you, Josh! Great!!!!
Josh should do some self help talks. He has a vocal cadence that is just soothing to listen to.

I like Josh. Don’t get me wrong, but I heartily disagree if you think that his voice is easy to listen to. As a former radio announcer, I find his enunciation to be lacking. Josh is a knowledgeable, excellent R/C instructor, but everyone cannot appreciate his fast-paced speech combined with his occasional omissions of the odd syllable.

Great video...thanks for showing how it's done ...Right.....I am impressed!!!
Sophia and I (mostly Sophia) just finished the build but we need a battery. Getting one tomorrow! Thanks for a great plane!
I love the "curves" on the front, that must have taken some hard math to design
Can't wait to build mine! Gonna put a cox 0.049 on it, 5x3x3 prop, FPV. Might have it done in time for FPV Fest depending on how the paychecks roll~

Sure wish you still had this is the store.
Josh says you have to go smaller if you go with a 3s but I bet you can get that thing in the air on a 1000mah 3s without any problems. I've found ft planes are spec'd up to be ultra lightweight, the ft cub specs with plastic gear servos and a tiny 1000mah 3s is 489g. my cubs fly on a racerstar 2212 1400kv swinging a 9x5 prop, metal gear servos, two cams on a switcher, a 800mw vtx, voltage osd and a 2700mah 3s and comes in at 890g and flys great but I've had the thing in the air on a 4000mah 3s and weighing just over 1kg several times lol.

Hello, can I put a 3 s 1500 mah battery with a mm2216 900 kv esc 20 mah motor? I would like to know in the model of this video
The sound of this plane is like a real one.
I flew the mini Mustang last week. It was great but the wing broke out after a crash. I'm fixing it now.
Hey Flite Test! I am wondering what methods you guys use to design your kits. A video on this might be very interesting, and I would really appreciate it. I think you guys are awesome and I'm currently working on my FT Commuter, but I'd like to get into scratch designing, especially using CAD software like Fusion 360.
Amazing
Eagerly awaiting the posting of the plans.
This will be my new trainer for getting back into aircraft ( last flew in 95) just don't tell my 9 Helicopters after this I want to make larger one the designer made.
Very cool
COOL BABY😊😊😊!!!
just ordered one! question: what are the battery slot dimensions
They say you always remember your first love. Her name was Juliette, 2264Juliette. She was a Cessna 150. I wish I could go back to see her. It was over 50 years ago. I think I’ll build one of these models and mark it N2264J. It’s hard to believe that so many years have passed so soon.
Thanks for the detailed steps and sharing this video. We have built the FliteTest plane using your video and instructions but we appear to have problems in having the plane stay up in the air and looking for some guidance. The plane does a nose dive or flips down very soon after take off (travels abt 3 - 4 ft in the air) before either doing a dive bomb or just crashes down. We did observe the plane turns counter clockwise (or towards left) when we try to drive it on the ground. Are there any rules of thumb or checklist so we can try to identify any imbalance/weight or other issues that might be contributing to this behavior? thanks in advance.
In one of the videos, you mention adding a camera for FPV flight. Do you have a tutorial on how to do that?
When you are constructing the fuselage (at time spot 9:23 in the video) when you are fitting the push rods through to the rear slots for the elevators , would it be practical to use either plastic straws or narrow gauge aluminum tubing to fit the push rods through to give a better more solid guide ? If so the straw or tubing could be glued at either end for added security ?
I was wondering i got some ca foam safe glue can u use besides the a glue stick
Hey Witch receiver did you use. Will the Admiral with Gyro Plus work it????? maybe to big?????
This build is not hard exactly, it's just different. One cut just leads to another. Watch the video a few times about the nose section and then just do it. Flew my Commuter last evening and ordered a second one today. As much as I crash, this little bird is going to help me a lot as it is a survivor.
WOW great job buddy, built like a pro, could you build a Maule Orion?
If you didn't already know, here's a link to the plans! forum.flitetest.com/index.php?resources/ft-commuter.74/
Hey can this be resized to fit a larger power pack?
Thank you Josh and Crew, thank you Ben!! 👍👍 That Takeoff and landing are EXACTLY why I've kept squawking for years about Tricycle Landing Gear!! 😎 great Ground Manners, and such a docile yet controllable Flight. ANY CHANCE of releasing a 150-175% Version??? Like Simple Cub sized? I'm getting one of these no matter WHAT, but I'd love a bigger version, and do not have the capability to upsize and cut it myself. I'm a Disabled Veteran, and my hands don't work that well anymore. Thanks!! Carmine ✈🚂🚙

simple cub is only about 25% larger. commuter is 30", simple cub is 38". 30"divided4=7.5"=25%. 30"+7.5=37.5. isn't that you scale up %?
@CarminesRCTipsandTricks
5 жыл бұрын
@@berniek8238 Well... I suppose that works. I'm a Disabled Veteran, without even a working Computer and Printer. THAT'S why the Speed Build Kits are ideal for me. I like the Commuter, because it's very much like the Cessna that my Dad taught me how to fly in! Putting a Nose Gear on a Cub wouldn't do it, nor would blowing up the Commuter Plans... Although for many others, that would be a possibility to consider. Good idea though, if I can find someone to laser cut a kit for me. My old hands can't cut out an entire Kit from plans...
How do you pick a flight controller?
i want to start a model railroad. would the foam you use for the planes be okay for making historical ruins and other bits of scenery?
My dad watched this so that’s why I am here lol great videos though
Is this the first recorded build at Edge Water Airpark?
what is your runway made from
Mirage 2000 Next!! please
Please make a very much futuristic looking plane
Can you do one of the fighter jets you guys made pls.
Is that a P-47 in the background?
I'm new so this might not be a valid question. I have a 2205 . -2300kv motor, would i need to scale this plane bigger for that size motor. It looks like about the same size as the F pack motor.
Do you have the plants online already i couldn't find them Thanks for this beautiful model i will certainly enjoy the building by this new method

some late info. at 1:00:00, yeah, i always like to install aileron servos as NEAR the Wingtips as possible; so that i get maximum Reduction of roll-axis stability. and i always like to Leave the wingtips UNfinished; cuz everyone knows that a wing should have Two, completely Different profiles. at 1:07:23, i always like a wing to make Extra, Avoidable Drag, by having a step at the underside, just forward of the hinge lines. ( i just don't like flying an efficient and well-behaved model. ) at 1:26:59, in other words, Optimal location of cg (conventional airframe) is at THIRTY percent of chord; or a bit forward of 30. at 38:58, it matters not, what materials are used. the use of a box-fuselage design WILL result in excess mass IN the tail boom. (otherwise known as, tail-heaviness in the dom. distribution of mass.) UNLESS, steps are taken to Reduce the amount of mass, located aft of the c-m/cg. ( such as tape-covered cutouts; ideally, tail boom construction Should include two formers; this will allow the (safe) removal of a lot of aft-located MASS. ) it should be understood that the cg balancing process has NO affect on (a wonky) dom. the ONLY fix for tail-heaviness in the dom is, Relocation/redistribution of Mass. in order to evaluate the dom of a model, establish a fulcrum beneath the fuselage, at a point that vertically aligns with 25 percent of chord/mac; when the fuselage is level. if the model does not Almost balance, the dom is Not optimal. since the problem is Tail-heaviness, adding mass forward of the c-m is Not the correct solution. at linked illustration, Optimal location of c-m for a typical high-wing airframe is indicated. it can be seen that c-m Should be located on the thrust line, at point that vertically aligns with 25 percent of chord/mac. all of these facts are known; they are scientific fact. if a hobbyist wants to make a 'good' model, the design Should CONFORM to the Science. any model designer/builder should understand that an optimal dom Must be Planned for; it don't just happen. googletranslate s3.amazonaws.com/assets.flitetest.com/article_images/medium/truecg-jpg_1384168691.jpg wright.nasa.gov/airplane/shortw.html some science, see 'airplane balance' section. Cool thanks for the link. Question, what google translate language can i use to decode everything you just said? I've never known anyone named dom? Is that short for dominic? Flitetest must really appreciate your highlights of their video. I checked out your channel, i thought these were some nice highlights- pick any video. 0.00 have an idea of what you want to say before you turn on the camera. 7:13 kzread.info/dash/bejne/hqCqypWlhsvRhLg.html try not to show other peoples videos on a screen filmed with your shaky camera, it just don't work. I could not find any tutorials on how to build a RC airplane. I saw a nice video where you talked about your little yellow plane, but all I learned was that dom or D.O.M. (as it should be written) stands for Distribution Of Mass. I am new to the RC airplane world, but i have now built 4 Flitetest planes and there isn't much Mass to Distribute. 90% of the mass is from the electronics. The P.T.W and the large control surfaces seem to handle any imbalance the airframe might incur. What do you think?

Saying "if you can build this, you can build any plane in the swappable series" actually means the opposite of what I think you meant to say. What you said implies that this is the hardest plane to make.
