I realize this video was posted a few years ago now, but I found it recently and have been building the Ft Duster and Ft Ripslinger planes. I thought I should say thank you for the free build plans, they're super easy builds that you can outfit for a very reasonable price. My 4 yr old, Aiden, just loves the Disney Planes movies and he's thrilled that daddy can build and fly his favorite characters. You guys do a fantastic job with the your website and the KZread channel. Keep up the great work!.

These Guys promote Fun, Family, Engineering, Math, Physics, Creativity, Compassion, Generosity.... Plus so many other things, wrapped up in an exciting Hobby, that used to be an "exclusive Club"!! They do so much for us, that even though I often can't find two Nickels to rub together.... I'll find a way to Buy a Speed Build Kit from FliteTest. 😎😉 They don't even make it so you HAVE TO buy products from them - which compels me to want to buy MORE! I'm hoping to get the FT Simple Scout and FT Legacy next... When I can afford them. Keep up the great work and the Passion Guys!!! 😊 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Never watched a build video all the way through. This is excellent, fellas!
Fun to see you guys build together as that is a major part of this hobby
You will enjoy the build of any of the planes they have. Whats nice is you always have the video to go back to,and find the answers that you have during your build.Happy Build My Friend. Keep the wind at your back.
You guys are awesome!!! Every time I watch an episode with a new plane I find myself running over to a hobby website to see what it would cost to buy the motor, ESC, batteries, servos, etc... Then I ask myself, "What would my wife say???" as I slowly and painfully close the browser. :) You guys rock!!! Keep up the awesome work. Eventually I'll sneak a few more past my wife. ;)
These kits are soooooo nice. They are great for any level rc plane hobbyist - they are durable, cheap and the perform very well.
Just got the full size plans yesterday and WILL build this one, this weekend. (After this, the Spitfire is on my "Bucket List"!) Haha! Having found the Flite Test Planes - with exceptional plans and builds - I'm going broke (I don't like changing the motor pods, so I keep buying Rx's, ESC's, and Motors for each!), but "What the Heck" - Life is SHORT - so have FUN...! Haha! Love you guys and this site, and hope to build more FT Planes in the future. Keep up the Good Work...
I've got one of these with a "the beef" motor and i love it. fly's just like they say in the video and it has enough power i don't know why you would need a bigger motor i also recommend if you don't like the look of either canopy downloading the plans for the p-51 canopy and putting that on it.
You have no idea how exited i got when i saw this pop Up LOVE You guys and your videos. Im young and you got me involved with the RC comunity, ive built a tricopter and quadcopter with money from my summer job and Really want to thank you for these types of vids a few bucks for and AWESOME plane.
Very nice guys. Can't wait to get cracking on mine. 2 thumbs up with a sweet BIG Toe wiggle for you gent's. Been out of the hobby for 17yrs and you guys have re inspired me to get back on board. A sincere Thank you from Bobby Curtains in Miami, FL.
That was an *AWKWARD* Video!!! 😜 LOL 😂 😂 Hey, if you want a Tip when using CA Cement, especially on Paper... I always put a sheet of Wax Paper over what I'm gluing. You can then press as hard as you need to. The Wax Paper won't stick to the Poster Board, and the CA won't stick to your fingers!! 😉 I hope that helps someone. ~ Carmine
Sweet we've been waiting on this one!
Its always great to see your guys shows :) Keep up the good work :)
Great seeing you guys working on the same build video. I like the discussion, it becomes more of a dialog then a monologue as well as raises more points then a single builder would have done. All in all it results in a more informative and entertaining video.
almost 1 hour, now that's my kind of video :) love long vids
awesome job guys... love all the build series
I love this channel. I just got my first rc plane, the hawk sky and its because of you guys motivated me to get thanks guys. just subscribed!.
you can also make canopies out of plastic from toy packaging or wherever you can find it. It makes for a more scale look. great plane, great show!
My favorite plane from your show :)
Wow ! Amazing plane . You all did great job . Thank you . Go ahead ! And keep continue.
Plans are printed... going to cut out the foam over the weekend and start the build when I get my beefier electronics. I can't wait to fly this bad boy in the Summer. FliteTest rules!

i dont undertsand the plans help me with it i have a4 paper printer
josh and david mention the servo extetions with clasps , another way and the way i do it is to use heat shrink over the connection, dirt cheap and reliable .
I think... TIME to shoping:))) THX Flitetest!
Great build video, you guys rock!
Hey Josh. 23:49 "This is my dog Max" - Mate, I have a shih tzu poodle called Max too! Looks exactly the same. When you said, this is my dog Max, I was thinking, nope, that is my dog Max. Such great pets, except when you accidentally leave the front door open... Also just wanted to say, thanks for all you guys do. You really keep the interest in RC modelling alive and kickin'. My first scratch build was a disaster so I am going to try building one of yours and see how I go.
These model airplane videos are very good !
I like to cover my foam board in packing tape. It makes the foam really tear resistant and as a bonus you can easily print your decals and put them under the tape if you are using clear tape. They'll never rub off again :) Clear tape gives the plane a nice shiny surface too
i think am gonna build one ;)

Superb! You both are the best!
this is a great looking little plane,a tip for your canopy that everyone should do, cut a section from the neck of a fizzy drinks bottle,it looks smooth an will solve the origami problems, cool build
finished and flew mine last weekend. i think i might make a cowl to cover the battery and motor for less drag. was actually a pretty easy build after i had built a mini arrow
@fetymann - Thanks! These guys are AWESOME!!! God bless ya!
Awesome plane dudes.
In Portugal we call it K-line...is foam between sheet of paper. Architecture students use it to make models of their projects. Hugs...great plane!!!!!!!
Thanks guys. Hope to get crackin on this soon.
That was a fun vid. Nice build.
Thank you guys very much
Awesome guys. Love it. FT BIXLER!!!!
What if you took a signal intake slit the two inside ones and put it there so it could be a single intake
You guys are awesome ... I know you already know this lol . I am really getting the hang of these techniques , the Cessna 180 I just completed is ready for maiden flight Im on your website (user name Xycromx) and im planning on taking it out today if weather is good, will be taking video for the inevitable crash scene . Feel free to check out and comment on my build anyone interested. im in the scratchbuild and newcomer forums on FT still a newbie to FT but I really love this hobby and plan to stick around . I have been watching your vids for a while and decided to stop being on the sidelines and start building . Thanks for the awesome plans you guys put out .

Hey Guys, great video as always! Just a theory on the why the paper causes the glue to cool (freeze) faster than the foam board. Foam is a great insulator! (just as my house!) With the foam board hot glue is likely only cooling directly to the air. With the paper being so thin and having much less resistance to heat flow it will be cooling from the glue side as well as the backside of the paper.
Awsome as always!
Hey Josh, to prevent gluing on bench , use parchment paper: NOTHING sticks to it (CA , epoxy, hot glue, tape); use 2 layers for CA as its might seep through a tint bit. Parchment paper is also great for toner transfer if your printer can digest it.
Love that david was in a build video.
Very nice.......I like.......thx for the plans.
also when ur putting to scewers in on the power pod u can put it in a drill and slowly push it in while spinning. makes a real tight fit
Hey guys thanks so much for this tutorial. The only thing that I would ask is if you could keep the brown cardboard layer on while doing the video. When it's been peeled off and all surfaces are white, it's really hard to see any contrast. That would help me a ton! Again, great video and awesome plane!
Lmao. Great episode guys. Keep up the great work. You do great things for the hobby!
Well guys, you've successfully convinced me to get into the hobby. However, I dont actually know what I need to buy to get into it. Obviously I need a transmitter, but from then on im pretty stuck. I'd like to build my own planes and have no idea what I need to buy other than foam.
Tip for securing servo extensions, use a loop of dental-floss threaded between the wires and tie it down, weighs next to nothing, is silly strong and should be in your bathroom cupboard, easy to remove on purpose and leaves no residue. :)
Always wanted one since a kid...now i see i can build one if i try...im gonna look for the radio and ctrs requierements and conf...to understand it
My dog starts barking at 23:03 already. I think he like this channel too!
hmm, wireless heatgun :) maybe called cordless? :P Awesome show guys!!
top work as always
I think I’m going to buy this
Make sure to actually secure your power pod skewer!! I built the FT Racer last week, my first swappable. On its second flight on Sunday, the power pod went shooting out and broke my 60A ESC, receiver, and propeller. On inspection, my plane was fully intact, the skewer holes were not ripped or anything, so the skewer apparently just fell out. A thick rubber band, wrapped around one skewer end and then over the top and around the other skewer end, seems to work. Please thumbs up for visibility!
for a new canopy material, maybe you can mold a foam into a singlular piece? like a microphone tip foam?
what motor & prop combo did you have on the orange racer version? i watched that video and you mentioned something about using the same motor from the 93 mph spitfire that hit the ground? if you could, you should maybe do more vids on motor/prop/powerplant (3s vs 4s batteries and how the effect the motor and ESCs, etc) selection, more in depth! you should also possibly state on your website your preferred power packages -- how does someone know what prop goes with what motor? will one give more torq thrust, should I choose one or the other, will it make it fly faster or is that package meant for beginners? sometimes its easy to tell, but sometimes its very hard to choose what one should buy or try to match with parts one may have already laying around.

not said here but its on the speed challenge it is a 3536 1800kv motor using a 8 by 6 prop but will run the motor hotor use a 7x6 and you will be great no idea on the rest of the specs though

I noticed he used 1100kv on small.. and 2300kv on med to big.... and these were very capable.. but for few more weight.. can just get the 2700kv and use the 4s system and u use 1/2 throttle while learning! then pump it up ,when your comfy! ...but note- all the 3s stuff if fine/ way cheeper! as of june 2019- 2300 kv electric motor (fyi-does 3s.or 4s cell.) is china $6.98.. :>) -so I use on all little and med builds. brushless too !!!! last looong time.

Please be sure use correct size= 2205-..2206..2207..22 is the size round- 05..06...07 =that's the height mm . Round counts ..so fits the fire wall wood!
top hat cannopy improvement: cut it out exactly as david has put in the plans but instead of making one cut and overlapping, you can make the hat with no overlap. cut both overlap lines and remove the card. line up the edges and tape it on the upper side to hold in position then glue a piece of card on the underside to hold it permanently. then if you want it to look even cleaner remove the tape on top.
Perfect flyer
Btw, just wanted to mention that I've found that using a piece of thin double sided tape for the card-stock turtledeck pieces works out better than using hot glue there if you ever need to replace a panel.
Awesome!
MAKE a mini series plz. That would be perfect for me to build

not trying to burst your bubble but you do realize that this video was made 7 years ago and dave already left flitetest a long time ago to go back to sweden, so you might as well forget it.
There´s similar "foam" here in Brazil. "Spumapaper" a bonded paper and deprom sheet, 5mm thick.
Thank you
Issent it kinda weak to only have foamspar inside the wing? I snapped my spacewalker wing and when i opend it it snapped at a foamspar section, now i have balsa going trough, would probably be ideal with some carbon fiber but yeah.
i got a speed build kit, with everything they recommended, and made it like the build video says and every single time i try to fly it takes a very sharp turn to the left ( I thought because of P factor) and nose dives into the ground... any thoughts?
If you make a hole in the body under the air scoop wil it help
@CarminesRCTipsandTricks
5 жыл бұрын
Indeed. It would then act like a Functional NACA Scoop!
I could see making a clear version of a canopy, You'd use clear plastic from something like a blister pack.. If I had any electronics, I'd get the setup and try it.
that stuff you guys use on the aero paper or not? what kind?
If I use depron foam (no paper on either side of foam) will I need to put some tape on the aileron hinges because there is no paper there?
What about part of a plastic bottle for the canopy? Yes you would have to paint it but it might give a smooth look and cut the wind better.
lazortoys has a kit that has everything that you will meed to get in the air. keep the wind at your back. happy flite
Dear Flite Test: Thanks for the info and videos showing the construction of various models of RC planes. In that plane thickness Racer is the building material (foam)?
You should cut hole inside the scoops to make them functional (battery cooler!)
Hi guys! Yours videos are great! One question, this foam, depron, that been used has a paper in one of the side?
Great job as usual, guys - can you post a link for those linkage stoppers? They look way easier to handle than the ones I am using.
wow amazing .. i am really excited to buy the kit .. actually i want to know the foam feature also... :) i cant find this foam in my city.. Best Regards
They are called 'contra' on some sites. Hobbyking has them as contra. Robotbirds in uk has them as 'contra' as well
can someone share how you set this plane up for a turnigy 9x. I dont have an aleron splitter wire. there has got to be a way to set it up using just the nine channel radio?
beautiful plane!!!! ??? is there way make a super noob=beginner plane ??? like underwing/and a lot lift.. can the foam be bent that way.. ? so as to cup under and cup over the top?
I need to get this kit
Nice bro.
Where do I place the wing servos on the new build, there is this notch but my flite test servos do not fit well it in? or on it? or what I am so lost
We have those kind of glue guns at work! They are so good hahah
is this a good beginner aircraft, my last craft was a firebird commander 2, seriously considering using this as a sort of trainer
Hi, do free plans provide slots positioning in the wings for proper spars misalingnement, for overlap joining.?
Nice video thks
They usally write the prop size when they release a sbk :) but i think a 9x5 will work fine :) If you want a faster make the prop size smaller and higher pitch :)
I'm interested in making this will the spit beef package work for this?
I have built a few FT planes from the free plans but recently manged to get a speed build kit for this plane (hardly any speed build kits available in the UK). I wanted to print the plans before starting the build but can't find them. There is a link saying free plans but they are not present. Can anyone help please?
hot glue sets faster on poster board because the card conducts the heat, in foam board the trapped air in the foam insulates and retains the heat for longer.
Hey, it's a cool plane that you built! I want to build it too. What paper format do you use to print it out? And is the matirial that you use normal EPP?
What would you recommend for putting wheels on this
I know you guys advocate sealing your foam board planes with minwax, but is there any issues with covering with packing tape instead? I would think it could help strengthen and smooth out some of the airfoil edges, too.
you can use magnets instead of your fingers put one magnet inside the plane and one outside do it on both sides and it won't be messy.
The reason the hot glue drys so quickly on the paper as compared to the foam board is because the foam board is made of foam, which is a very good insulator, whereas the paper much more readily conducts the heat away from the glue allowing it to dry more quickly.
Can you please let me know which foam is beng used. I don't know much because it's my first ever build
Hi guys, do you think that you could do a full review of the frsky taranis, it has caused a real stir because it is so cheap but full featured. It has been ages since you reviewed a transmitter. Great video by the way
