    I am going to invest in learning to become a charismatic story teller. I never realized how important this is until Eric caught my attention and I stop to listen to both of the videos. Now I understand being an intelligent Engineer is just not enough. Learning to capture someones attention and hold it is an important skill for selling ideas.

    I love making notes these days and eric's talk forced me to do that. His talk is so valuable . THANK YOU so much♥️♥️ Below are my notes. Eric Edmeades PART 1: 1) Always have fun and give fun. 2) Tell stories 3) Make the audience laugh in first 30 seconds of your speech i.e. start with a predictable laugh 4) Never tell anyone that you are nervous. Never let the audience feel you are nervous even if you are. 5) Take full deep breaths , it makes you feel safe and you can more be YOU. 6) Use different methods to make the talk interesting i.e. engage the audience 7) Always approach strategically with definite objectives 8) Plan and predict the reactions of audience 9) Give them value through your speech. Give them what they want. 10) Use your eyes in soft gazing way Part 2: stage effect 1) The quality of your speech and size of the audience tells how much people will be attracted by you. 2) when you address a group of people you make a lasting impression whereas you meet them in person you have less to share and people barely remember you unless you are marketing etc. 3) stage effect has immediate and powerful return in financial terms. 4) become good at speaking at conferences where people with variety of interests are present. Your target is to use broad spectrum appeal that is to grab the attention of highest amount of people. KEYS - tell stories because they trigger emotion ( for broad spectrum multi layered) - no emotion no memory - find the common thread between the audience Delivery 1) Be who you are so that you can form a heart connection with audience 2) Don't be afraid to forget your speech, if you can engage them they will tell you where you lost 3) You already are a good communicator 4) Three types of • Visual ( loud , fast ) • Auditory ( better pronunciation , careful ) • Kinesthetic ( feelings, long pauses ) Use the charisma pattern to form the crescendo. Start from kinesthetic to visual. 5) Speak to the audience in a language they want to hear and they want to hear all of the above three. 6) Nervousness and excitement have same effect on you and to convert nervousness into excitement have pictures in your head. Nervousness is excitement about scary things. Excitement is nervousness about cool things. 7) Belief eats evidence to grow. Always believe in positive things and you will start spotting the evidence and once you find a evidence your belief grows. People you might want to know after this: Tonny robbins Martin luther king Robert plant Lose yourself by eminem If you think i missed something. please let me know that would be really valuable. P.s. - now i just want to one thing before i do anything I want to become a public speaker

    How to become a master Public Speaker; *Use the charisma curve* - start at Kinetic, go up to Audible and occasionally go to Visual in order to engage the whole audience. Audiences are usually thermostats, audiences usually follow a scale from K-V *Learn the art of storytelling* - Use youtube to see archives on great speeches - Use a common topic that everyone in the audience will be interested in - Intentionally forget things to keep the audience engaged - Create suspense and climax to make your story more memorable, even if it is a presentation on numbers

    "Emotion is the glue that causes memories to stick." Amazing quote. The information needs to be delivered in a story format. When it is delivered in story format it is memorable. Broad-spectrum appeal it starts with the recognition that story is the ultimate language it's the ultimate operating system for the brain. No emotion no memory. What is the common thread of the audience.

    I have decided to write down a kind of "OVERVIEW" of BOTH the first and second part. With overview I do not mean timestaps, rather I mean things he said (note however, that I write them down in the same order as he is telling them in his talk). All the things I am going to write are from him, some sentences word by word, some sentences changed a bit. I will divide my writing in Part 1 and Part 2, but I will not provide any timestaps. Further note, that Eric uses stories/examples to make things more clear/visual, which I do not provide in this overview. That said, I hope this will be helpful for some people. ############################### PART 1 ############################### - stories make it possible for us to survive; our DNA loves stories; - speaking is one of the most powerful forces there is in our society; - being a speaker, being comfortable sharing your ideas, being influential in the way you communicate can triple or more your income; - speaking obliterates all other advantages (e. g. heigt, gender); it is the most powerful thing you can do for your professional life; - we were NOT born to be afraid of public speaking/communicating; - the minute you start producing cortisol and adrenaline, you step back in time in your brain; you go to the more primitive parts of your brain; the more scared you are, the more primitive you go; we become more pessimistic and we lose touch with our proper brain; - children are the toughest audience ever; - Fear of missing out (FOMO) can absolutely get in your way of creating an incredible financial future; - Today, if you want to influence people, you have to start to think about them, talk to them; - Always have really clear, strategic objectives before communication (e. g. have fun); - Never let the audience notice that you are nervous (otherwise you will not believe people; their prais & warm words are platitudes & lies); - never go overtime; - your breathing has everything to do with how safe you feel; - when we are only operating on instinct everything will look scarier than it really is, because it is safer that way; - when you breathe really full, you communicate to your DNA that your environment is safe; - Excitement is nervousness about something cool and nervousness is just excitement about something scary; _______________________________________________ - Things to make you feel better going on stage: *breathing deeply *using your eyes in a soft, gazing way *we see the presentation coming out beautifully *we never let the audience see us nervous *be predictable in that first bit of your talk; know exactly what you're going to say so that you can create a predictive response from the audience in the first 30 seconds _______________________________________________ ############################### PART 2 ############################### - The stage effect is the unfair advantage that you create for yourself by standing in front of an audience; - The quality of your presentation plus the size of the audience creates the level of attraction you create as a speaker (e. g. views on KZread); - nothing will create a more lasting impression than face-to-face contact, but it is not very practical; - face-to-face contact, however, is even more powerful face-to-faces; - one of the greatest tools of the introvert is learning how to be great at storytelling and standing on stage because then you don't have to go meet people; the come and meet you; _______________________________________________ - Broad spectrum appeal: deliver with broad spectrum, i. e. in a way where the audience likes what is going on even if the topic is not a direct match for them *USE STORIES (stories are the operating system of the human mind) **stories can trigger emotion; no emotion -> no memory; emotion is the glue that causes memories to stick; **remember to deliver information in story format (you don't need to know a lot of stories); **one of the important type of stories to tell are metaphorical or allegorical, where you tell a story that the audience wants to hear but that's teaching them something else; **stories are broad spectrum automatically; *USE A RANGE OF VOCAL TECHNIQUES **deliver with passion; be who you are; put heart and soul into your talk; **you should know you story so well that you can tell them with imperfections; _______________________________________________ - Communication frequencies: *VISUAL: like to talk in picture; usually quickly and loudly; *AUDITORY: more steady tone; talk with a predictable cadence; in a way that is quite pleasant to listen to for a short period of time; use words like "listen to me", "I'd like to share"; *KINESTHETIC: talk really quietly; use long pauses; give you time to process the things they've said; use words like "feeling", "warmth" and "connection"; - The spread of those type of communication frequencies within the audience is more thermostatic than discrete (i. e. 30% of that type, 40% of that, etc.); - you need to speak to the audience in the language they want to hear; _______________________________________________ - Charisma Pattern: *Start with Kinesthetic people; building rapport with them; *as you start to warm up the auditory people start to notice (the kinesthetic people still think it is a good talk eventhough it's come up; it's called pacing and leading (a term from NLP)); *finally you build up to crescendo; visual people start to notice (the kinesthetic people still like your talk because you took them there); _______________________________________________ - when stories are being told and delivered well, you create Time Warp, you create illusion; _______________________________________________ -Remember: *BREATHE PROPERLY; push your stomach out as you breathe not your chest; do two or three of those and you will feel better; *USE YOUR EYES softly and gaze out at the world; you will create a feeling of being incredibly relaxed; *NERVOUSNESS AND EXCITEMENT are effectively the same thing; if you can learn to create better pictures in your head you will transition your nervousness into excitement; *START YOUR TALK with a really predictable beginning; _______________________________________________ - you can only dream and fantasize from the position you're in right now;

    That was an interesting story, Wendy. I'm curious why you, "wanted to change the vid," just because he was wearing shorts? I would imagine you believe a speaker wearing the proper business attire, ~ suit, tie, shiny black shoes, would be a bit more visually qualified to present a given topic. Lol, don't judge a book by it's cover. Many politicians wear lovely expensive suits. Hitler even wore a suit. I'd advise everyone not to base their expectations solely on a mans clothing, or a woman's impeccably beautiful nails. . .

    About 20 years ago, my Chemistry teacher came to class in the boys' High school where I was and introduced a new topic. She started... "I have a little daughter called Esther," she continued "she asked me to find a good boy from this class to marry her.. she smells so nice!" Little did we know that a topic called Esterification was being introduced. Esterification is a chemical reaction between carboxylic acid and alcohol to form fruity smelling ester and water. It is one of the topics that I remember most. I do agree that stories are a powerful tool to disseminate information to others.

    Thank you Sir i listened to both parts and you created the right momentum in me to start launching my 10 mins talk to Entrepreneurs... I learnt the Charisma pattern and this is what in wanted to hear.... I am a natural speaker ... but somehow was not so confident to going to stage .. I love storytelling and you said it write it engages your audience .. i just need to adjust my vocal techniques... Thank you so so much

    I teach writing and public speaking courses for undergraduates, and I Love Mindvalley's videos. Mostly, students who enroll in my classes are shy, extremely introverts, ESL, and/or hate public speaking in general :/. So, I usually use these fantastic Talks as educational materials for class preparation and discussions; and unsurprisingly, my students are always excited about it and more verbally engaged. Thanks, Mindvalley, for the awesome speakers and meaningful knowledge that you offer to the world :)

    I stumbled onto part 1 of this talk while benchmarking speakers and trainers for my own speaking business. I admit I almost didn’t make it through the first ten minutes. A ten-minute story before Eric got to the purpose statement. But I stuck it out (sic: as a Visual person, I guess I hadn’t seen the start yet!) I did. And I am infinitely grateful that I did. Eric does so much, through example and story, to debunk classic public speaking myths! I loved it!! Now, applying this to business speaking, where time and entrenched expectations are looming limitations, is another story. I can’t wait to learn more!

    Living in Fort McMurray the past 11 years, I get the part about how cold your time must have been in Edmonton. Brrr. I had a few good chuckles mixed in with the many many insights during this talk. I didn't want it to end. The envelopes...I would have been one of the couple should have looked forward to such a test. I've done similar things to myself in order to improve...call me selfish lol. I "volunteered" for the empty safety rep position on our shift at work, partly for, you know safety and stuff, but also partly for my own benefit to have to give a monthly talk in a conference room of about 25 of my peers. The difference in the two years ended that was the comfortableness. Looking forward, Eric, to diving into some more of your talks.

    Eric is a Great Orator because he speaks from the Heart and Soul. I wonder tf he sings. He enthralls and mesmerizes me. If he lived in 1939 he might have been able to stop The Fuhrer in his tracks. He knows about a FUNDAMENTAL medical fact that Few Medical Care Providers, especially MDs know! That is there no life, in fact, there is Nothing without EMOTIONAL CONTENT. I wrote a poem entitled “What’s Up Doc?” you are cordially invited to use this link to find it
