    I love the speech and his humour. The only point for improvement, maybe change from a handheld microphone to either a lapel or headset, like he did in his contest (unless Aaron prefers to use the handheld). I personally prefer to use both hands without the distraction of a handheld microphone.

    Great tips and stories. I resonate with your takeaway from the book Quiet; that changed how I view myself as an introvert some years ago. And I love how you closed your keynote with your One Rule speech. I needed that. Thanks!

    Hi Aaron. I just want to say thankyou as your videos have helped me to get to the district level for the first time. Im not expecting to get any further than that this year. The process and mindset I've gained from you has been so insightful and now I just need my skills to catchup. But its really a great positive acknowledgement of what you have been trying to communicate.

    Keen insight Dylan. It was most definitely intentional. My opening was used as a way to not only shock the audience but to create a contrast with my real character.

    Great opening! There was humor, energy in the room heightened, and it made a powerful point. I suppose it also worked because the audience knew you and liked you (so much). Would you advise doing that (something similar) with an entirely new audience?

  • @publicspeakingmentor

    @publicspeakingmentor

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks, Chris. Your assumption is correct. Since the audience had a good idea of who I was already and what the world championship of public speaking is, it was easier to pull this opening off. For new audiences, I have a more reserved opening. Oddly enough though I used to do that opening when I was a 2nd place winner. That one I would still do with a new audience because it was done in a way to poke fun at myself. That element kind of went away once I won.

    There must be a big cultural difference between the US and the rest of the English speaking world. The opening speech appeared to be attention seeking narcissism. My mouth was left open in horror and confusion. Stopped watching after a few mins. Intolerable.
