You nailed it, man! This speech was quite creative. I liked the way you named your relatives. It made the story a lot funnier. Besides that, I enjoyed the structure of how you created your speech in both of your winning and this speech that they were not predictable but still easy to understand.

Thanks for sharing this speech. I commented that the theme of your champ speech was not as clear (in somebody else’s channel that you did responded to) and I have to agree with you that I like this speech better than the champ one. However, I like the long title speech in 2016 best out of the 3. 2016 was a very rough year. Even the third place speech (I Will Be There) could potentially be first place because they were all so good. All 3 are great speeches. One personal critic I have is I don’t appreciate or like people make a face to provoke funny moment/laughter. I note that in this particular speech, there are quite a few of those ones. The personal reason for that is I think people are acting more than using their creativity of words to cleverly create humors as it should be in a speech. Anyway, looking forward to hear more of your speeches in the future. Please share. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment. We all have our own ways to communicate, this is the style that I have chosen. I don't believe any style is better than another if done in a natural way. I do believe just using words ignores other aspects speaking publicly people are not only listening they are watching.

We watched your wedding speech in our club meeting last Thursday, we have three members who are from Indian families and they were laughing the hardest at the speech, while the rest of the room was also having fun. I’d say they’re both great speeches, I like this one because of the feeing, however I like the second speech better. From a judging prospective I would rate the wedding speech high, just because of the timing, projection, action and telling a story from an unfamiliar place. Both great speeches IMHO #Edits for clarity, my thoughts wander :)

Hi Aaron, many congrats! It is great to see you as WCOPS 2019. I was present in Coronation 2019 in India where you were the keynote speaker. I was impressed then and I am impressed now! I want to ask you something: I am facing some challenges as I prepare for my speeches in Pathways. The main challenge is finding personal stories. I know that they are there, but I don't know how to get them out. Can you share some strategies that can be used to identify these personal narratives? Thank you.

Shiv K thank you very much. When thinking of Personal stories many people make the mistake of assuming that the entire story needs to completed with a moral and lesson right then and there. That is not the case. The stories I used in this speech were tied together after reflecting on a theme/moral/lesson later on. However I had these anecdotes/stories saved in my story file. My suggestion is to start a story file it can be in a notebook or on a computer but you write out all of the interesting stories that you can remember. Don’t try to put a lesson or moral behind it just write out whatever happened. Think about funny moments, heart breaking moments, family moments. Don’t limit yourself just keep writing. They don’t even have to be complete. They can just be words that spark the memory.

In the speech contests you have to have at least 2 speeches prepared. I've been competing for 8 years, so I have a quite a few haha

Hi Aaron, I've enjoyed this speech very much and it gives so much to learn from as well as to be inspired. I would, however, like to point out one thing that did strike me immediately and that was your reference 'we all have a family'.. Now unfortunately, the first thought that popped into my head was - NO, that is not strictly true, i disagree, not everyone is blessed with a family, or a stable circle of people around that could potentially be considered as a family. Therefore, for me, the relatability of this part has been lost and it takes away a bit from the power of the concluding message. Perhaps if the words 'we all have people that are dear to us' or something in that sense had been used, it'd have been more universal, inclusive and therefore 100% relatable.. Overall the feeling of the speech was still fantastic and I'm grateful I could listen to it, even with that wording it was 99 of 100 top notch experience, thank you for it ❤️🙏

I suppose that I can understand the sentiment somewhat, but I also like to believe that everyone has their own chosen family whether that be through blood relation or if you've been "adopted" by close friends. To me family is a choice.
