If the keyhole(s) is facing your palms, then probably the only chance you have of escaping is picking the lock with a bobby pin, paperclip, etc. But if the keyholes are facing upward towards your back, you are most likely screwed, but there is a small chance (usually with a lot of practice) you can get out.

The best advice I've concluded to survive this is to not do things that make me seem like a candidate for torture; respect the locals, don't leave yourself open for exploitation due to lack of cultural knowledge and make it known people will notice if you go missing and would want to look for you. I'm sure they have victims that did all of the above and still got captured, but it would reduce the risk of being targeted. The tourist dudes heavily implied to me that they don't have anyone back home that would miss them due to their vacation and travel plans and repelling behavior.

Problem is that it makes the main character highly unlikeable. Taking revenge on the psycho who payed to torture him is one thing (still a capital crime, but one that most viewers would deem understandable and maybe even justified based on what the main character went through and what the victim did to "deserve" being killed), but using his innocent daughter to exact his revenge makes him almost as much of a despicable crimminal than the guy himself. Instead of escaping the monsters, he has become the monster. Granted going through intense trauma like that can make people snap, but it certainly would be a tragic ending.

You don't have to be a particularly cruel person to murder someone who tried to murder you before and most people would not consider a character being a bad person for doing that, especially if he has no realistic means to get his enemy convicted for his crimes by the authorities. But going for his innocent daughter instead just to torment her father makes him almost as bad as the villains, which IMHO is a disappointing ending and makes me retroactively feel bad to have routed for this piece of sh*t to survive.

The handcuff breaking technique you showed involves chain link handcuffs. The guy looked like he was in an odd looking pair of hinged cuffs. The same technique wouldn’t work on the stronger hinged cuffs because there’s no chain in between, so this technique alone wouldn’t make soldiers restraint proof unless they have some other method for those. You’re better off picking, shimming, or using something to pry apart the shackles (a seat belt works well) but it doesn’t look like he has the tools for any of that
