This movie uses primal fear in a way nothing else has. Instead of “spooky monster running toward you” being called primal, this actually doss it. There is no fight with hands or weapons, instead you’re in a hunting ground of something 1000x bigger then you and you’re put in the prey position without an ability to turn around and become a predator home alone style. It’s the best rep of primal fear I’ve ever seen

This is actually a genius movie idea. They took one of the most basic horror movie tropes, aliens, and removed the entire idea of them being dangerous due to they're intelligence and made it a freakishly large animal. That's genius! It still maintains all the scary mystery of "what can it do?" because it's an alien, while also making it a threat for entirely different reasons. love it!

This comment is just stupid. UFOs aren't dangerous because they're intelligent. They're dangerous because they abduct people. It's a threat for the same reason all UFOs are threats. It abducts people. As for what it can do, I don't know. Maybe it can do what all UFOs do: abduct people. Generally, people add all reasons behind why UFOs abduct people. The classic interpretation is human experimentation. This movie basically makes it "the UFO was hungry." It's unique but "genius" is kinda funny.

  • @justinsinke2088
    @justinsinke2088 Жыл бұрын

After seeing this, what Nope did seems like how a bait and switch should be done in cinema. Everything about the marketing made it out to be a fairly classic UFO abduction story. None of what was shown was then a lie, because even within the context of the film, it was thought to be a UFO initially as well before they come to realize that it's not an interstellar ship, but an interstellar creature, which changes the context of the film, turning it from a UFO/alien abduction movie into a monster movie.

Great video, but there was one issue: Jean Jacket is indeed territorial. Seeing the “head down” scene was after the digestion of the 40 people, JJ was acting on aggression (this being stated by the characters soon after the encounter), not because it needed food. This is why at the end of the movie, Jean Jacket flares a weird green thing at the balloon, which JJ perceives as a threat (the balloon is making eye contact, flying above JJ, being followed by streamers which will “fuck it up”). This is a demonstration of JJ’s territorial behavior, as well as how JJ perceives threats and reacts to them (this behavior being inspired by real animals, such as birds and marine animals) :)

One thing you did get wrong about the movie is the scene where JJ is above the house and the car. The creature is not looking to eat them. It already ate 40/60 people and was satiated for a while. It came there to assert dominance by outing blood on the house and spitting the fake horse at theme. JJ DOES have an eye. It's located inside of it's mouth, you see it a few times during the film. It's the green block at the end when it unfurls. The reason it react aggressively to eye contact is because it eye is in it's mouth, so it relates it to hunting. It also didn't originally relate humans as a source of food. Jupe had been feeding it for a while, which habituated it to humans. JJ knew that where there were humans, there would be food. It's the same as people feeding bears and later getting mauled for upsetting it for one reason or another.

I guess it's lost on general audiences, but when he mentions the "Magic Hour," it's referring to dusk and is generally the BEST time to film anything. While Jean Jacket caused a lot of damage, it's entirely possible that some of the footage survived, especially if the digital footage automatically uploads to a Cloud-based server. As for what I'd do, I always thought the solution to beating Jean Jacket was getting it to suck up some sort of explosive device and then detonate it once it sucks it up. There's plenty of items civilians can get to do this, such as gunpowder. Use an extended timed fuse and double-prime it to guarantee it goes off when Jean Jacket sucks it up.

That weird traumatized actor offered to buy the place which rarely happens with public property since the property's well public, plus we don't see a lot of people there. Now you're wondering why i'd connect private property to not a lot of people showing up, well tons of people love horses and of course they'd go to a public place to see the horses. Now what does the property being private mean? Those kids invaded private property which could've gotten them in a lot of trouble, don't forget they can't counter with the option of saying "that guy hit us!" Because they entered his property, in the middle of the night, and they almost made him have a heart attack which could've given the guy enough reason to sue the kids for just entering the property.

bro in the theater me and my friends were squealing because this video doesnt do justice to how scary it is. in the barn scene OJ heard a sound and quickly turned around. And at first you see nothing, but the camera doesn't shift away from the scene. I looked closer in the theater, and you can very faintly see the outline of one of the aliens crounching in the corner. I screamed "oh shit! look!" and pointed it out to my friends and when they finally saw, it slowly began to stand. It did it so slowly that it took a good 15 seconds. easily in my top 3 movies of all time just because of how it makes you feel. The screams of the people being digested, and the sound of the biker screaming "OH GOD" over and over again in absolute agony. It sends a chill down ur spine. Espacially since the UFO is absolutely silent when it moves. All you hear is people screaming from the clouds.

Kelsi Rutledge: Jordan wanted to make something that was still in the realm of scientific possibility. He had a clear vision for how he wanted the creature to look and then was hoping for certain elements. Like, “Is there anything like this that exists?” I think marine animals have freaky, weird attributes that provide great inspiration for alien-like things. When he was designing the eyeball, for example, he’s like, “I really want to do a square eyeball, but does that exist anywhere in nature?” It’s not very common, but octopus have this very square iris actually...

Second the alien was making the sounds of the people it ate the whole movie even when it wasn't feeding, third the alien can only eat in saucer foarm, I thought that was pretty clear based on how he sucks things up, it wouldn't make sense for it to feed while it's in it's defensive form, even when it grabs the big blow up dude it doesn't actually suck it up and eat it untill it goes back to the saucer foarm. And finally kind of seems like they tell us OJ won't get eaten when the film dude talked about the purple alien didn't kill because the person was too tough

Little fun fact about the pigs is that in this scenario they have the highest chance of survival. This is all do to the fact pigs cant look up. It is impossible for them to do so with how their muscle structure is oriented. Had they used pigs as bait, nothing would really happen to them considering you have to be looking at the Jean Jacket for it to attack you. This would likely lead to more questions on why the pigs weren't taken like the horses. Though it could lead to the same conclusion that O.J. made about not looking at Jean Jacket. So it at least would possibly give us some insight on the behavior of our favorite flying saucer. That is probably why the only "survivor" besides Lucky the Horse is the pig that is on top of one of the buildings at Jupiters Claim.

bro in the theater me and my friends were squealing because this video doesnt do justice to how scary it is. in the barn scene OJ heard a sound and quickly turned around.

I love how in this one episode, all your smart planning is actually worse than what the movie does. By assuming that the aliens are smart and advanced, you wouldn't have given the plastic bait (which allowed them to learn they can damage it and repel it with UN-digestible foods and bright colored fabrics) and by replacing it with pigs as a decoy you would have endangered yourself with the explosives but the alien wouldn't have touched them (because they can't look up and therefore don't look at it in the eye). I know you said it doesn't make sense, but the creature does work like that, so sense or no sense it is how to beat it... A very interesting episode for sure

there are multiple themes in this movie that gets explored and looking into depth makes the movie all more better. for example: The Gordy scene, lots of people got confused by it but here's my friend's idea mixed with mine: Gordy was an animal used to be marketed, sorta like how Jean Jacket was marketed onto a jacket. Gordy was marketed as a unusual pet in that show, but it soon later backfired when he snapped and killed everyone. the shoe in that scene represents an unfortunate miracle, and is suppsoed to get your attention, telling you that you pay attention more to the shoe rather than the violence around it. sorta like Gordy, hes a danger but gets represented as a special character, getting your attention ignoring the fact that hes a chimp. so when he finally snaps, the realization finally kicks in and you see whats behind the curtains. this message is simply "dont meddle with nature for profit". On top of that, when Gordy went to fistbump Jupe, in that moment Jupe realized that he can control Predators. we see this with Jean Jacket herself, when Jupe is on screen, you can see on the back of his jacket that he has literally Jean Jacket imprinted on it, to be sold and marketed. this also sorta confirms that Jupe thinks that he can control predators, we've seen it with the stadium and look how that turned out. Gordy was supposed to be the small representation of Jean Jacket and why you shouldn't meddle with predators. this theme of control is present for most of the movie, like at the start, where The Movie Director was instructing OJ to do these things like "Spin", "Look here" and stuff like that, things you would say to an animal. But thats my interpretation, reply with your own, debunk or add on to this comment if you want too, i love reading other's interpretation for this movie.

This isn't against you, but I honestly don't see why people are confused about the Gordy stuff. It's clearly included to illustrate the theme. It's also legitimately terrifying. Also, before he starts his demonstration, Jupe (clearly delusional) mutters to himself, "You were chosen." He thought that he survived his encounter with Gordy because he had some kind of special influence, but it was something as simple as his eyes being covered by the tablecloth. So many people ignorantly want a spectacle, thinking they are special enough to control it, but then they find out they can't.

13:27 it would be a terrible idea to tie the horse to the stable stall or outside because in a panic the horses would sprint, as shown earlier in the movie and break its neck, killing it. I am speaking from experience when I type this to. Also, it is often very difficult to find a new field to put horses in never mind a whole ranch (also speaking from experience) then you have the high expense of paying for said ranch or field so it’s a loose loose situation either way unless you ride and camp until they find somewhere

The scene where the kids were dressed as aliens creeped me out the most. I was both excited and freaked out finally seeing creepy aliens on the big screen but of course my disappointment is immeasurable my day was ruined.

I fucking love how you just go into how to beat the "aliens off their ship" when its just some kids. The fact that its never brought up how these were just some clever fuckers.
