The reason the used a green screen is because Frys Electronics went bankrupt during Covid. However, alot of their stores are still standing and look pretty normal on the outside. Especially the ones with unique designs such as the one in this movie. The inside of these vacant buildings however are pretty much completely empty aside from a few empty shelves and desk sitting around. Never the less, great video and love the channel.

This is what I loved most. An unfamiliar and powerful foe doesn't need to be malicious and constantly intimidate. Sometimes, facing a more powerful adversary is just the nature of the animal kingdom, and NOPE did a great job of depicting Jean Jacket as an animal, not a monster.

That was easily my favorite part of the movie, especially because it's very consistent with the themes of the movie, given that a big part of its themes surround the relationship between animals and the spectacle industry, Jean Jacket essentially occupies the same narrative space as Gordy; a wild animal we shouldn't be messing with or trying to control, that we've decided to exploit for spectacle, causing a great deal of calamity in the process.

The shoe was important because it’s another example of a “bad miracle”. That shoe saved Ricky’s life, because he was so confused and focused on the bizarre shoe that he wasn’t looking Gordie in the eyes for long enough that Gordie came to his senses and calmed down. The problem is that Ricky took the wrong lesson from that situation and believed that he was special and Gordie just refused to hurt him and that led him to believe that Jean Jacket would do the same. That shoe was a blessing and a curse for Ricky because it saved his life but also got him killed. He never moved on from that day and kept trying to take control over it by buying the items, using it for profit and anything he could do to try to make something good come from a bad experience. But he clearly had PTSD because whenever it came up he deflected from his own experience, bringing up the SNL sketch or whatever so he didn’t have to actually talk about it himself. He was a guy who had a horrible experience, took the wrong lesson from it and then payed for trying to profit off of another creature like Gordie…

I also found the shoe to be a bit of a red herring. A purposeful misdirection. We the audience are given the impression that there is some connection between the shoe and Gordie's rampage. An "alien" influence. The reality was that Gordie was simply a wild animal acting within his nature, much like Jean Jacket. It's very likely Jean Jacket is a creature from Earth, not alien whatsoever.

This concept has been explored a couple times. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote "The Horror of the Heights" in 1912. Not his best story, but enjoyable. Charles Fort and ufologists which believed in "atmospheric beasts" considered things like aeroplankton, how to deal with lightning strikes and such. I personally think JJ's senses (like passive/active electric senses of fishes), locomotion (electrostatic levitation/ion-propelled aircraft) and perhaps even main energy source (like oxygen is for us, it eats for nutrients it can't synthetize on its own) are all electromagnetic, and the interference is a side-effect of that.

Throughout the movie we get hints that he was kinda big back in the say but is washed up now. This (plus also being near the end) is why he did what he did. Something that could also contribute to Jean Jacket's "unusual" aggression and interaction with humans could be either a prior injury or a lack of food. Animals like tigers have been known to avoid people as best they can, but if for one reason or another they can't hunt their usual prey, they'll take what they can get. This could mean a few things for Jean Jacket; something in the stratosphere (or another Jean Jacket) is able to give its species a run for its money, or human interference has either somehow reduced the available food or also injured it. These would result in the same outcome, but I like to lean towards injury since we don't see Jean Jacket actually enter the stratosphere. A prior injury could actually keep it closer to the ground, and based on the amount of crap it eats we would DEFINITELY have noticed it sooner if they regularly hunted in the lower atmosphere.

Thinking on the possibilities of Jean Jacket's origins, whether it's from Earth or from another planet, a possibility arises where... It came from both. Looking at the creature in Nope, while it's abilities and physiology is indeed otherworldly in every way it at the same time feels Earthly, as if it has grown accustomed to the world it lives on or, more specifically, EVOLVED on. The alien in the movie may not be the same alien that first entered Earth's atmosphere long ago but may in fact be a descendant. An ancient ancestor far more adapted for interstellar travel than hunting in the skies of a single planet. Considering the seemingly desert-like emptiness in the galaxy in terms of other life, it's possible Earth may be a celestial oasis that when found by interstellar animals, would basically become their new-home paradise where they stayed and preyed on the local wildlife until they became perfectly adapted for it at the possible cost of losing their ability to travel through space. The first of Jean Jacket's kind may not have come from Earth but after possibly hundreds of millions of years of living on Earth, Jean Jacket could be a longstanding resident with a vast and mysterious heritage. edited for grammar.

A small detail i interpret about JJ's design: both in the front and back of his UFO form, there are these little holes or orifices which look like apertures of some kind, sort of like the crevices in a crab's shell - I took them as the entry and exit points from which the air flows through it. That way, the wind currents flow front to back more easily in a circular shape (that's why the UFO form is circular, like a saucer), filling the air sacks and that way the mouth beneath it regulates the amount of air expelled, which it also uses both to propulse itself and to ingest his food. It's also how it creates the clouds used to camouflage itself; by condesing the water particles in the air within and then releasing them around itself.... essentially like a fart.

Not sure if it was intentional on Peele's part, but the Key that was stuck in Ghost, made the horse look like a life sized wind up toy. If it was intentional, maybe that helps with the animal exploitation analogy. People both in this movie and any Hollywood movie that uses trained animals, simply expect the animals to do what they want them to do and when they force that, everything goes wrong.

good point, but the film also gives us hints that big animals like horses can be scared of tiny things, if you put something shiny close to their eyes for example. The rider's helmet is supposed to remind us of the horse kicking it's legs while being scared of the mirror, proving that a huge animal can move a lot when scared and can do something which seems unnecessary and unexpected. So for the UFO animal it was colorful strings/flags, that could be attached to something uneatable - that made it "kick", or rotate to avoid swallowing something dangerous. On the other hand I don't know how dangerous crashing would be for JJ - if a balloon could kill it then maybe scrubbing the jellyfish skin against the dirt could be devastating as well.

During certain scenes, you can actually see the alien "looking" around from the very edge of its "saucer" tip section. Its a tiny black opening, like a dot, that its looking through. When angel is wrapped in the barb wire and looking at it, you can see the dot swivel around towards him and it stays locked on him when it flies past to double back behind him. You can see the duvet here at 18:30 when its chasing OJ.

He sees JJ as some Devine occurrence, in the middle of something so gruesome. I mean he knew what happened to the horses, and most likely knew how the hikers met their end. Obviously he didn’t think JJ was a threat to him. Perhaps it was a way for him get get over his survivors guilt. He was MEANT to live (and not have his face eaten away). The thing is that miracles themselves aren't inherently good things. Back in "Ye Olden Times", this word was used to designate anything that was beyond understanding and couldn't be explained at the time, regardless of whether people saw them as good or bad. One clear cut example of this is the medieval "Book of Miracles", which depicts many unexplainable events that are supposed to be signs of the apocalypse. The abundant presence of comets in the pages lends credence to this, since back then they were seen as bad omens or warnings from higher powers.

one thing they should know is that, in almost any kind of art, there is always a meaning to how eerything is put it together... you can see this in any behind the scenes o movies, usually everything is calculated, and when its not... its because they didnt want it. you dont draw, and hope to make a visible image, you have to think off what you want to do... (the text below gets too personal in my opinion, im so srry) and thats why this modern art trend about throwing paint to a white screen its so disrescpectful, anyone can do it, dont you dare tell me they were the fisrt to do it and thats why its valuable... like this dude that sold his own feces on fish cans, "oh, im bringing a message" my man, thats disgusting, what if i vomit al over a water bottle and try to sell it? thats art?

It also inspired Jupe to think he was special in being alive at the moment, living despite the tablecloth protecting him, and making him think he has a special purpose in seeing a UFO. I so appreciate you mentioning that the greenscreen tendrils are an aggressive action. It's seizing up OJ, as this human has CONSTANTLY gotten away and hurt it. That's why OJ lives! Already existing organics will always be more energy efficient to consume then trying to make organics from minerals like a plant does. It likely filter feeds microbial life normally, until Jupe started baiting Jean Jacket. Microbial life lives in the air and potentially the stratosphere, airborne microbes of various kind have been referred to as "atmospheric krill". Earths upper atmosphere having massive filter feeders is not too far outside of possibility. Suggesting an interstellar food source for a creature likely incapable of leaving the atmosphere is somewhere silly.

"This would actually give credence to that Roswell UFO incident back then. It would also make sense why they would later say that it was a weather balloon, because it kinda looks like one, at least whatever material it’s made out of looks like one." That's because it was a weather balloon, or rather a heavily modified one that was carrying microphones and recorders to pick up and record sounds in the jet stream, radio transmitters to broadcast those sounds back to listening posts and radar targets so the balloons could be tracked by radar so that when they picked up the blast of a nuclear weapons test, they could triangulate where the sound came from, the project was code named "Mogul". It was a rather ingenious way to spy on the soviet nuclear weapons program without actually needing to put spies on the ground in the U.S.S.R. and risk being caught. The whole "covering up UFO's" bs was a cleaver cover story cooked up by the U.S. Government to through the soviets off the scent.

That occurred to me as well. It could possibly be more of an ambush predator which incidentally kept its existence secret until feeding it taught it boldness. Or possibly the territorial nature of the species makes itself its worst enemy and they hide from others of their species. I like the second idea. Heh, bigger predator. As JJ flares in challenge to the big float, tentacles descend from unseen heights and JJ is violently pulled upwards and out of sight, leaving the characters staring up at nothing but the float, with no proof and no one believing them. Some proof. It’s hard to ignore a gore covered house.

usually apex predators do the opposite when hunting, they are apex because they know how to get close to a victim without getting caught, so they can aproach and thus, be more precise. This leads to the predator having more opportunities to strike a lethal shot, which reduces the chance of the prey to defend itself. Sharks have those colors because they help them camoflage from below and from above and they mix it with their strong physic and saw-like teeth and bite force. Owls have specialized wings that silence their flight, with also sharp and strong claws... Which eagles also have, even tho they arent as silent, they hae a bio.mechanism that allows their claws to just get close without even trying, till the victim dies. Dragonflies, are the most succesfull hunters o nature, thanks to their highly flight capabilities and speed, they just overcome any other insects, even flies. Even tyranosaurus was like this, they werent has fast has their usual prey, but they had the strongest bite force, thus reducing the need for persecussion. When an apex isnt sneaky, its because it has other advantages, like pack hunters. Wolfs, spermwhales and Orcas for example, are also apex predators. srry i got exited talking about this.
