This setup will work great for me because I own a WD hard drive 4tb. I just didn't want to buy all those crazy dongles from Apple and pay for Icloud storage either especially for making videos lol! I am sharing this video, because I am not seeing this process anywhere only the dongles lol! Thank you for your fantastic help!!

Raheem Abudahir It’s not something that will do that. You have to manually direct the files to be saved. I’ve never tried what you’re asking but I just don’t think that can happen.

I'm looking for a RavPower FileHub, but they're currently sold out on their site. In looking for a similar product, am I looking for travel routers with file transfer capabilities? This is a new tool to me and want to make sure I'm looking for the thing that'll actually help me. Also, can you skip the FileHub if you get a ssd external and use the USB dongle?

It’s good but a lot of extra work. I appreciate the ease of use iCloud offers. So as long I’m within the 200GB i’ll keep using iCloud. For 2,99 a month i wouldn’t switch to this option. I also Think that if people are a bit more selective 200GB should be enough for most people. Back-Up what you don’t need and keep what you use local (and just to be sure also in the cloud)

That’s the thing though, I never thought I would fill up 200G, then I way surpassed that. LOL. Video files are huge, mine are at least 2 G and I film in 1080 only. Some people film in 4K, which I used to and those files were 1 gig per minute. So only 200 minutes worth of footage and that cloud is full. It goes fast, I’ve already downgraded to 50 gig a month for .99. Yeah! I’ll back up when the cloud says I’m getting close to full and save myself $9 a month. Financially, this is the best way to manage my files. Like you said though, everyone is different and that 200 gig is a lot of room for the majority of users. Thanks for watching and sharing!

I am intrigued by this method because Inhave around 35000 photos I need to get off between the iPad and the phone. I still don’t understand why the travel router is a good way, if one is transferring right at home. Will this method still be much faster? I found that the usb from iPad to computer just does not work (extremely slow). I am really desperate to get the photos off both devices...but also get them into albums and categories. Photos in albums on ipad do not even move off in albums but as separate images according to when they were taken. I have been researching this for a few months now...I am not techie. I need help.

Def the best thing about the iPad iOS is the new external storage, I purchased the Samsung ssd drive to use with my 10.5 iPad Pro, works perfect and no need for wireless connection 👍

I have a powered external hard drive and when i try to save my finished projects from Lumafusion its saying the files are too big. And their is plenty of room on the hard drive.

Tammy,, I got a sandisk 500 Gb drive for 85 dollars.... I can use this with the dongle on my 2017 iPad and with a USB C cable.... I know it sounds a lot but it’s. Nice for travel...

Nikolai Gray I’m not familiar with Kwilt but I’ve been using the RAV for a few months and I love it. Saving a nice chunk of change every month. It’s already paid for itself. If Kwilt is solid state that should work too.

Hello Tammy, I have a question for you and hope you can help me. A few weeks ago I took test shots with my 5 action cams while riding a motorcycle. I then copied this data to a hard drive using the FileHub. But to make a film out of it in Luma Fusion, I copied the data (approx. 120GB) to my iPad to do this on the go (the data is in a separate folder on the iPad). And lo and behold, I haven't had an iPad backup since. The iPad wants to secure everything, but in that case it shouldn't. Do you have a tip for me? I would be happy if I got an answer. Best regards

I’d love to help but I don’t really understand what you’re asking me. You’re iPad hasn’t had a backup? iPad wants to secure everything? I don’t know what that means. Why didn’t you just put the footage directly into your iPad to begin with? You should utilize the cloud always. I use the RAV power to backup completed files, just to store them. Are you having a problem getting your data into LF? I just need to understand the workflow and what you’re trying to do and where you’re hitting problems. Hope to help ya!

Tammy Sypniewski Hello Tammy, during a motorcycle tour I copy the data from the cameras to a hard drive with the File Hub - so I collect this data. When I am back from my tour, I copy the files of one day (for a video) directly to a directory (Temp) on the iPad (approx. 120GB) to be able to cut them on the go or when there is time. During this time, my iPad does not make a backup because it obviously tries to back up this data too - it takes days via WiFi. What do you suggest, how should I proceed? Roberto Walther How many gigs on your iPad? Maybe your data is exceeding what’s left on your iPad? For my workflow I utilize the cloud but I’m not on the road like you. Yes a file size of 120 gig will take a long time to transfer. This is why for your flow I think you should utilize the cloud. It’s so much faster. When’s the last time you cleared out your LumaFusion cache? LF makes several backups of your movies and if you don’t clean out the cache this will gobble up the space on your iPad. When you say backup your iPad hasn’t backed up what does that mean?

My issue with backing up is that I find you have to re-backup everything on newer ex-drives every so often because these external drives have an expiry date. I lost so many files not knowing this. Luckily I was already backing up some data when I realized my drive was crashing. Everything else was lost. Granted this was YEARS back, are ex-drives still as risky???? I hate iCloud and would greatly love to rid myself of their "services"... is this method the safest?

You might want to try the WD my passport wireless pro, just one electronics and you connect it to the iPad by wifi. Hope it works.

@@tammysypniewski1891 I paid $150 dlls for 2T, it works ok, it could be a little bit slow with large files, I am recording with my gopro and allow me to just insert the micro SD and backup all the files in the card, so is perfect if you are traveling.

I trust Tammy with all of my video editing via iPad Pro ecosystem

Can attaching this Drive to a WiFi router (non-Mac vs.) workif it gets enough juice to run it..ie. You hear it powering up? Also, would both ways or either way req. a Mac version of the WD drive or will that matter? I’m using an iPad Pro 12”(abt 2yrs old) and laptop also ,,for my home and few little graphic designs here and there... storing mostly SVG/CorelDRAW/PNG/JPEG’S

Angela Fleak I use that iPad too. Works great no issues with juice because it’s also a battery bank. Once it’s fully charged you can run it for a long time. So as long as you can put the app on your laptop you should be ok. I have pictures videos and LUTs stored on mine.

Tammy Sypniewski mainly abt the WD drive onto the router,, if that works, I’ve got both Mac & non, WD externals and tried the “infamous” camera adapter fail to my iPad on both - I just tried my laptop it can see the non Mac WD when it’s hooked to my WiFi router I can get to my cloud drives and move things around so maybe this will work in a round about (and no more $) way? ,, I can’t get the Mac WD external drive to register when hooked up to router/iPad/laptop - anywhere unless it’s got be reformatted maybe but does light up so I know it’s working.

Help!! Can you do this also with an iPhone?? I cannot afford Apple's extortion for icloud prices plus I think it is customer hostile. But that is another story. I actually don't even know how to find my icloud and and don't know what is on it. My iphone says icloud is full but where is all the data i ask myself. Up in the sky??? 🙂 I would love to empty the icloud and just back up the phone's most important data in case the phone dies or??? Thank you and greetings

That’s strange about the files but I do love this external drive👍

I think you will find the little white connector you have will work, but you must first make sure that you hard drive is formatted to exFAT and not NTFS which is the normal format you get the hard drive formatted in, it just that Apple iPads and iPhones will not read the NTFS format. I hope this will help you. The Bonus is it won’t matter how slow Your Wi-Fi is because the drive will be plugged in directly to your iPad. You will see the hard drive will be listed is in the File folder on your iPad.

I have a export question. How do your videos look that you export out of LF and save to the cloud or external? I’m looking at some videos I have saved in my google drive and they look like crap and I exported them out of LF with the highest settings too. In my google drive the videos look low res. Do you have a video talking about export settings and such? When I post the videos to my IG, they look good so why is my google drive making them look low res?

Well that's even easier because you can just plug an external hard drive into the mac and copy and paste from there.

I can’t find the icon in the App Store. I type in rav……. Every which way with no luck

QUESTION:....but first. Tammy love your channel. So you do not need a that RavHub to move documents from a cloud storage service to a hard drive. You can do it right from you IPad. That RavHub is an unneeded middleman. Its intended use is a wireless travel router. But if you’re sitting at home, its an unneeded middle step. Correct?

Thank you. It was necessary for the hard drive that I had gotten. However, this is an old video and so much has changed, I don't think they even make the Ravpower anymore. I just ordered a new hard drive that connects wirelessly and I can actually use it to edit my videos so that I don't have to store anything on my ipad. How awesome is that?

Yes, if you can move the files to your external hard drive without needing WiFi then you don’t need it.

If the iPad is connected to the ravpower’s WiFi, how is the iPad downloading the cloud photos so that it can transfer them to the hard disk drive?

Sounds like you didn't watch the whole video. You save the pics from the cloud to the rav folder then transfer to the device

Can you save files that are on a first generation iPad using this device? I hate paying that $9.99 a month to Apple as well, however one thing I'm concerned about is the fact that external hard drives are not fool-proof. I've had two external hard drives that died with all my pictures and documents on them. I am taking them somewhere to see if they can save my data. I sure hope they can. 🙏

The hard drive you can use with computers for sure as it plugs in USB and you can add things to it in your control panel but being that ipad doesn't have control panel only apps.

I Just download iCloud photos/videos from iCloud to laptop or pc, then move the zip file to external hardrive. Never had a problem.

Your explanation is very clear. And it is great to see a woman explaining these technical things. Generally, when men explain these things, I have no idea what they are talking about. However, you did not explain ethernet and wireless possibilities. What does this mean?
