    You’re welcome! I’m afraid I don’t know what specific models/generations of iPads can do this. If you have a Lightning charger port and not usb-c then you might need an extra adapter from Apple. But as I don’t have those models to test, I don’t want to give advice that I haven’t actually tried myself!

Its tidous and a pain in the butt but it gets done. Hello! It’s really hard to give hard advice because even Apple’s website doesn’t get specific on what models need what connectors! support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/ipad/ipad75b7b23f/ipados as you can see it just says “Depending on your iPad model and external device, you may need the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter, Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, USB-C to SD Card Camera Reader, or Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader (all sold separately).”which isn’t really helpful and you can see why I’m reluctant to tell someone to spend money on something I haven’t tried myself! If it’s a brand new/latest model iPad, I’d like to assume this would work, it just make sure you get the right adapter. I don’t think a standard iPad uses usb c, I think they still use a lightning connector. Sorry I can’t be more helpful or specific! Your best bet would to be to contact Apple to find out for sure what you’ll need, or just give it a try if you know can return the hard drive/cables if they don’t work!

  • @rebeccaflaherty

    @rebeccaflaherty

    If you mean animations you’ve exported as mp4 or gif files then yes it’s just the same as saving to iCloud or Dropbox. If you mean the time lapse data, then you need to make sure you save it as a .procreate file and not a .psd as that doesn’t include the time lapse data. Again that’s the same as saving it to Files/Dropbox/iCloud. You can store lots of different file types on there, photos, videos, numbers, pages etc. not just procreate files. I’ve had my external hard drives for quite a few years (I have 3 altogether now!) and they’re still working perfectly. 🩷

  • @rebeccaflaherty

    @rebeccaflaherty

    Yes as long as you’ve backed it up somewhere else, you can then delete from procreate gallery. Then at a later date you can import the file and do more work on it. If you want to keep all your time lapse data saved in the file, export it as a .procreate file and not a .psd

    If we backup the procreate file to the hard drive and bring back the file to procreate, do we still have the process video? I know if we saved it to the psd video process not gonna be back.

  • @rebeccaflaherty

    Hello! I keep time lapse data turned off in my iPad settings so I don’t actually know the answer for sure, but in the procreate handbook site it says: “The .procreate file format also stores video data inside your image file. This allows you to view and share a Time-lapse Replay of your art works creation.” So I would take that to mean as long as you are definitely backing up a .procreate file and not a .psd that video data will also be saved and transfer between devices. Best way to check is to do a test by duplicating a file and try it using iCloud.

    Hello! There's no "one size fits all" answer to that question so you'd need to assess for yourself which of the formats suits your needs depending on your operating system etc and where else you might want to use the hard drive. This page from Apple support goes through the different formats. support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/disk-utility/dsku19ed921c/22..6/mac/14.0 Sorry I can't be more specific; I don't want to inadvertently give out bad advice!

    Hi Áine! (I have a cousin called Áine!) Anyway…! To answer your first question about the file preview on the external hard drive, I just double checked and yes you can see the thumbnail for the PSD files on there, it just takes a second or two (or 30!) to appear. The thing with iCloud still taking up space on your iPad is annoying isn’t it! Your iPad keeps a local sync of any recently used files so that they’re always ready to go. I wish there was a way to offload them, but there isn’t 😒 Think of iCloud Drive as a backup rather than a way to free up space on your iPad! I don’t use google drive so I’m not sure if you can offload with that or not. Thanks for taking my Skillshare classes! In my most recent class there’s a lesson showing how I prep a PSD file to send to a client! I don’t always send a psd file though, it depends on what type of contract we have negotiated or how much the fee was-In some instances it might just be a flattened png or jpg. With the mock-ups, do you mean how do I make my own ones or just how to use mock-ups in general? 🧡
