Hey Vinny, thanks for the tutorial on setting up a cyclone dust collector - really like what you did with the plywood to add support to the lid.

Very good and easy to follow video! Adding the wood under the lid is a great idea. I was thinking it would have been way too flimsy until you did that. Greta explanation!

I use a 1/8" plexiglas or any thin rigid material on both sides of the lid with 3/16" nuts and bolts around the outside perimeter securing the 2 layers and lid together. A smooth coat of caulking inside the hole where the Dust Deputy, the lid and the reinforcement layers meet eliminates the need for a gasket.

Hi there,I was wondering if you could help me. I bought a cyclon Deputy-and attached it to a bucket. But when I turn it on, it makes a very high pitch sound. How can I fix that? The house that my shop vac had is a 1” 1/4 . Do I need a bigger size? Please help. Thank you.

It's been working well for me but I have a small wet/dry vac. If I had a bigger one, I'd want to reinforce the top with a circle of wood so it didn't cave in.

Thanks for your response. I ended up adding plywood to the top and the bottom. Also added rubber gaskets and caulk. It’s probably over engineered but it works! Thanks again!

WT I think you just convinced to just spend the extra 50 and get the bucket/lid combo.. great work but seems like it’s not worth it to me. I would be interested in just buying a reinforced and precut aftermarket bucket lid. Any one know of any?

If you had a hollow punch that would work really nice to cut the bolt holes in the gasket. I have one I once used to make holes in sanding discs that did not have holes. It worked well. They look almost as good as if they came already with the holes. I had to do it, I hate dust.

You really need a piece of wood above and below the lid to screw the deputy into for rigidity. Use caulk or silicone. Put your bucket into a second bucket to prevent it from collapsing.

Did you need adapters to make sure all of your hoses fit properly? I tried buying a dust deputy and I couldn't find an adapter ANYWHERE to use with my (RIGID) Shop Vac. Really, really irritating. Fortunately the guys at Woodcraft were very helpful in trying to help me with the adapters BEFORE I spent the $100 to buy this thing....but no luck.

Yes, I needed adapters so I designed and 3D printed some. I realize that not everybody can do that but that's how I solved that problem.

JoshL apparently you can buy a version of this from China for about $25 (now probably more with a tariff). I also find it strange that Oneida does not put out a video to assist DIYers for the $50 I just paid them.

Unfortunately, everywhere we go we wind up buying chinese products, and sadly it is part of our economy. So, when I see an American made product, backed by good quality and customer service, I tend to buy it. In a way I get full satisfaction that I am not supporting the chinese army!
