How to Add a Fly Fishing Dynamic to Your Spinning Tackle

This is a simple set up I always have available in my river fishing tackle box for my spinning rod.

This has become a staple in my box when all I got is my spinning rod. Works well but it takes a lot of practice. the main challenge is managing your slack line so that it doesn't interfere with the drift but is still good for a hook set. Usually takes some Simultaneous reeling as you set. farther casts are tougher to manage but it can be done.

Love that technique. I used to do it all the time. Maybe I’ll start again!

It's so easy to throw that in your bag. I don't use it all of the time but when I can't get a fish to go for seconds on my jig or I see a spot that is perfect for it I'll bust it out.

Right on. This technique takes a lot of practice but once you figure out the quick hook set and managing the slack line it's a solid method.

I'm telling you, that can work well once you get it down. Takes practice in managing the slack line so you can be ready to set the hook if the bobber pauses or goes down. That's easier said than done but eventually it can be figured out. I still struggle in some flows. The fish I got here was easy because the flow was high and I was doing short drifts close to me. If You are throwing it farther out it's a whole different, complicated ballgame!

Great tip to share with everyone. I have done variations of this for years, with some good success.

It works. Good change up to have with you if all you have is your spinning rod.

I love using fly with bobber. It is a great way to utilize your spinning rod.

Really expands the range of your attack. I plan to start using it more.

Good video. Lately I've been messing with the same concept but with a Carolina Keeper. I've been able to fish a #16 nymph, a San Juan, a "mice tail" a tube jig and other stuff and can adjust the leader length while still having some weight to cast. As a bonus, I don't catch as many rocks or logs with this setup.

This is simple but it works great. managing the line on farther casts can be a challenge. Controlling the slack line enough so you don't interfere with the drift but still can get a good hook set is a challenge but it can be figured out with practice.

This was a mission that came together when we decided to cut backpacking a day short and head over to the Pit. Kind of like two trips condensed into 48 hours of fishing and hiking!

It does. It works good enough to satisfy a guy like me who's too lazy sometimes to hassle with my fly rod!

I've been using that everywhere and it seems to work fine. I used to use a 4lb fluorocarbon leader but it's way easier just to put the bobber and fly on my regular line. That way I can adjust the length below the bobber for each situation I'm faced with and that can make all of the difference in the world. I'm already being lazy and doing that instead of rigging up my fly rod so I might as well go for convenience too!

Is that in TD, Alder Creek? That's unusual, you got skunked. Regardless, you offered good alternative techniques..

I haven't fished Alder Creek. That's the Pit River. Fishing was solid. I say in the video I just got a fish using that method while fishing for my Patreon. I got 8 or 9 nice fish in the net between the two sessions that day.

This is great for when I'm too lazy to break out my fly rod! Not ideal but in a lot of cases it will do.
