When I fish with two rods, I tend to use “circle hooks” on the rod which I am not intending to angle with. I have to say, on most occasions, the fish will hook itself in the corner of their jaw when using circle hooks which aids in easy release or de hooking. Love your videos Roger, very informative and no one is that well schooled in fishing not to learn something from these. Thanks for sharing.

I do the same. Circle hooks self hook. Also can take any favorite hook you already have and side bend it to make them less inline and the fish self hooks also.

I am a beginner but watching couple of your videos made me more confident in choosing baits and fishing. I just came here accidentally after losing 2 kilos of salmon while pulling out of the water a week ago. Haha I WAS TRYING TO PULL THAT GUY AGGRESSIVELY WITH ALL OF MY EFFORT WHICH WAS WRONG.
I would love to see more of the fish being taken care of once you catch it and also how you fillet it. Different types need to be prepared differently.

Hi Roger, I have been fishing for almost 40 years in Sri Lanka and many other countries. Lately I have been watching your videos and tips on KZread. They are very informative and interesting. Just want to thank you, please continue these fine KZread videos on your vast knowledge. Thank you !!
just to add to my last comments.Roger, in this country, most guys go fish in surf with big ,big, sticks and try to hit you fella's on the head. you have opened my eyes to beach fishing with less than 14 foot sticks. now i carry less gear around.

I have a crook back and neck. I use a 9 or 8 foot rod on the beach with a long pipe. My end eye is still ten foot or so off the beach. But heaps less draining holding it or winding in big fish.

@@Alberthoward3right9up How far are you able to cast the 9 footer? I've got one recently and haven't been able to cast it far enough to make for good beach fishing. Not sure if it's my casting skill or the rod! Haha
@Alberthoward3right9up

@@kev8646 I use braid with a nylon leader. Also my nine footer has a solid tip. Those two things help greatly i think. But I'd say 50 60 + meters with a decent sized running sinker and a bit of blue bait with two hooks in it. I also put a hitch with two twists over my tail of my bluebait. So it dont get pulled from the hooks during cast and it helps it go a bit further.
Thank you Roger. I enjoy watching your videos which are very practical. It's really great of you to share your knowledge of fishing skills. Much appreciated 🙏

Hi Roger 😊 Just discovered your channel three weeks ago. Thanks for taking the time out to help educate us all on how to catch fish from the beach. I’m going to try the worm rigs you use regularly. Can you let me know what size long shank hooks you use and also on your other video with pilchards what size the little top hook is please. I love the way you make sea fishing more affordable to us by giving us ideas on tubing for beach rod holders and using little gear as possible. Can’t wait to have a go and catch for the family table. ❤

Break off a leg put the hook in the hole where the leg broke then thru the belly. And if you want extra security use the leg as a stopper. (Push the barb thru the leg shell and out the other side) gidos fishing adventures uses the for groper if you want a visual

Heading south during the school break and planning to do a bit of fishing so watching you catch salmon is exciting. Do you mind including how you bleed an australian salmon in one of your next videos? Thought you'd feature it in your previous video but obviously didn't.

Hi roger I’m going beach fishing on the weekend and I’m getting confused with all the different rig set up’s 😂 I was just going to run the stinger rig setup I’m just wondering if you use the the big star sinker on that set up or just a normal round sinker I was also wondering if you use worms on this rig as well
Hi Roger, Is the light surf rod you use in the video a 10ft or the 10ft 6-inch rod in the Maikuru 2 range? The action of the rod looks great. I'm from South Australia and have learnt a lot. Thank you for your videos Roger.
Recently had my three piece carbon fibre rod stuck together. How am I going to get it apart and into the car? Sterile gloves and two people are needed. The heat can swell the male section. The cold can shrink the female section. Running the stuck joint under a cold tap helps. Don't use hot water, you can wreck the varnish and the binding. Many pages devoted to this on YT. How to prevent this? Even better. Rub a lead pencil on the male section, all around, up and down before you join up the sections. It works a treat. Keeps the sections straight and comes apart without much ado.
Hi Roger, What are your thoughts on circle hooks? I note that you don't seem to use them. I always enjoy you videos. Cheers.
Another amazing video, Roger. Just wondering what kind of rod you would recommend for beach fishing? Any specifications? Thank you so much

Most of my beach rods are 12ft long. I have a couple of lighter ones at 10ft.
Maybe my 50 years of bad luck will change after watching this thank you roger
Its not about the fight in the line/rod, its about the fight in the fish. Lost rigs that I thought were more than enough😢
Very helpful, thanks! I was on a pier today, realise now I was trying to set the hook too early, when feeling the nibbles. I kept having my bait picked off, does that mean I had too large of hooks for the situation? Also, when you are keeping the fish to eat how are you dispatching them, bleeding them?
@RogerOsborneFishing
9 ай бұрын
It depends on the species of fish biting at the pier. The hook could be too big
hey roger great video - by any chance do you know what the stingray at 7:52 was like its name?
Thanks for another informative video Roger. I will certainly re think my strategy next time I beach fish. Out of curiosity do you ever use soft plastic worms for bait. I am curious if they work as well as the beach worms.

10/10 Roger. i would put it to you this way? your program is the best!! you walk a person through each stage of what you are trying to explane. i dont even bother about our south african you tube videos they are more about the pro mo`s and they dont explain the tackle or baits used,or water conditions. keep up the good works.

This was what happened to my line the other day, I got 2 whacks, then I tried leaning back I thought I got it already, but nah. Twice it happened, then after that full on heartbreak, no fish.
Roger, I bought a packet of Bite Science Twitch worms to try. On the packet it says to use 1/16 oz Jughead and a 1/0 hook. Does this mean I can't use them as set bait? I thought when it said worms that twitch I could use them like beach worms.?
Hi Roger, I think you should change the name of your channel to: "The Salmon King", taking into account the fact that you are catching Salmon in most of your videos, lol, you seem to be a Salmon magnet... Also, I would like to ask a question: I live in Israel, and mostly do beach fishing or rock fishing in the Mediterranean, and we have much less fish than in Australia, and different kinds of fish, do you have any advice on how to fish more successfully in the Mediterranean? Best bait? Best Rig? I normally listen to your advice about sunrise and sunset, I either use your methods of "The best Rig in the world", the 3 ganged hooks, or the 2 hooks and a sinker. We used to have beach worms many years ago, no so much in past few years, so I either use a small live fish, caught by float and bread, or frozen bought prawns, or Salted chicken breast, or dried worms, and with not much success! Rock fishing with a float and bread is the most effective and successful fishing method here if I want to go home with a nice meal, but it's mostly small fish, palm size or a bit bigger. Thanks a lot in advance, Eran from Israel.
@RogerOsborneFishing
9 ай бұрын
Hi Eran, It would be helpful if I had an idea of the sort of terrain that you are fishing in. Using berley to attract fish to your location always works very well here. The big thing in locating fish is understanding how and where they feed
@talmania1

@@RogerOsborneFishing Thanks a lot for the reply, our beach is mostly sandy and not too deep, it get to 2 meters deep, or 7 feet at about 100 meters from the shore line (about 300 feet) so if I'm casting from the shore or go in a bit, I'll be 2 or 3 meters deep. Not to many rocks on the coast line but there are some rocky areas and plenty of fishing docks (more like paved wave breakers) which will put me In that 100 m spot, and I cast another 80 m approximately. I normally use bread as Berley and I never tried using fish like sardines or mullet as Berley. I think our water's temperature is too high in the summer here in Israel and in the Mediterranean in general, 29 degrees Celsius, which is probably why the big fish aren't coming closer to shore. When I fish near the rocks of the wave breaker I get lots of small fish, sometimes even a red grouper on shrimp or prawns, or big mullet on a floating pita bread trap (10 hooks around the pita bread, no sinker) but to catch the really nice fish like Whiting or bream or bass, it's like a miracle that happens only once in a while, to all the fishermen around here. I can't afford a boat or a canoe, and I love beach fishing, but I sometimes think I should only use my 8 meter plane rod with a float from the rocks, otherwise I'll go Home with no fish. Fishing successfully here is much harder than in Australia, I have loads of professional gear, just not the right ocean.
I was wondering how do you put crab on the hook?
