How-to: $14 Lightweight Over-the-Shoulder Snorricam (Body-Mounted Camera Rig)

Фильм және анимация

GoPro action camera: amzn.com/B00F3F0GLU/?tag=griff...
In this DIY build episode, Griffin designs a $14 third-person body-mounted camera rig out of PVC pipe for his GoPro Hero2 camera, to capture unique over-the-shoulder shots during the Warrior Dash.

ADDITIONAL BUILD INSTRUCTIONS (I'm using " to mean inches.)
Click here for a photo guide for building this rig: www.instructables.com/files/or...
Using 1/2" PVC pipe (it's bigger than that, but that's what it's called), cut the following 13 lengths of pipe:
-(6) 1.25" pieces (These are to connect fittings together. When inserted, the two fittings will cover the entire piece.)
-(2) 8.25" pieces for the tall, vertical sides of the rectangle
-(2) 2" pieces for the short, horizontal sides of the rectangle
-(1) 12.25" piece for the long camera support arm
-(1) 5.75" piece for the short camera support arm
-(1) 4.5" piece for the camera support column
(Now that I'm adding these up, I'm realizing it's about 73" of PVC-that's 6 feet and one inch. I used two 5-foot pieces of PVC, because of lots of trial and error as I figured out the design, but this is interesting: I have more than 5 feet remaining. They must be longer than they say.)
You could also substitute each pair of T joints and 45-degree elbows with a single Y joint, but they can be hard to find in stores (since plumbers have little use for them).

I'm actually glad it fell, because that was a lot of force, and instead of breaking the PVC or the camera itself, the removable cap dissipated the force.

For $8, you can buy a regular tripod mount for the GoPro. So that's attached to the waterproof case, and I use a 1/4" screw through the PVC cap to secure the camera to the rig.

Awesome! Thanks so much for all of this! Just made my own! I spend like $9.95 (including paint), but I already had glue at home. Also, I suggest using a pipe cutter. One that has blade and spins round and round to cut PVC. You get ZERO mess, and straight cuts with no waste!

Awesome. I am looking for a angle like this but for surfing 3-4 ft waves. Looks very stable without too much shake or movement especially since you just proved that in a race. I was looking at drones but this angle looks better and way cheaper. Thanks and great job!

I'm working on one of these right now with a few tweeks. I put a threaded coupling at the top so I could screw on the cap without worrying it would fall off like in the video. For the straps I am using nylon webbing using fasteners and three buckles so I can adjust it and not have to do any stitching.

Just finished my build of this rig and found a couple short cuts. Instead of using elbows, you can use tee connectors so that you can just string the waist and shoulder straps through the rig's frame and getting a better fit from all the straps! I used the elbows and drilled holes into them after the fact. But I'll get a walk through up on my channel soon!

I made on of these for an event like this using your video. Am up to version 3 now and have made one which can be used while wearing a back pack. I also use screw in fittings for the camera mount exrensions, which is allowimg me to adjuat the height and position of the camera. I just wish it was as cheap in new zealand as it is in america. Have spent on average $100 each mount. Still its well worth it for the added camera angle. Thanks

I would think a strong enough wave could knock the camera off. I've thought about running a cord from the camera to my wrist or waist in case it falls off. GoPro also makes a bright red floatation device ($15) for the camera so it's harder to lose in the water.
