ADDITIONAL BUILD INSTRUCTIONS (I'm using " to mean inches.)
Click here for a photo guide for building this rig: www.instructables.com/files/or...
Using 1/2" PVC pipe (it's bigger than that, but that's what it's called), cut the following 13 lengths of pipe:
-(6) 1.25" pieces (These are to connect fittings together. When inserted, the two fittings will cover the entire piece.)
-(2) 8.25" pieces for the tall, vertical sides of the rectangle
-(2) 2" pieces for the short, horizontal sides of the rectangle
-(1) 12.25" piece for the long camera support arm
-(1) 5.75" piece for the short camera support arm
-(1) 4.5" piece for the camera support column
(Now that I'm adding these up, I'm realizing it's about 73" of PVC-that's 6 feet and one inch. I used two 5-foot pieces of PVC, because of lots of trial and error as I figured out the design, but this is interesting: I have more than 5 feet remaining. They must be longer than they say.)
You could also substitute each pair of T joints and 45-degree elbows with a single Y joint, but they can be hard to find in stores (since plumbers have little use for them).

Something about your voice just completes my life.
I'm actually glad it fell, because that was a lot of force, and instead of breaking the PVC or the camera itself, the removable cap dissipated the force.
For $8, you can buy a regular tripod mount for the GoPro. So that's attached to the waterproof case, and I use a 1/4" screw through the PVC cap to secure the camera to the rig.
I definitely care more about having dedicated subscribers on Indy Mogul than on my personal channel. (I make more videos here, so Indy Mogul may actually be my "personal" channel!)
Thank the heavens finally a 3rd person camera mount that suits my needs
Just got done building this rig and it works great! Thanks for posting this!
No problem, this was an excellent DIY, as per usual on Indy Mogul!
Thanks Griffin for putting this video together.
Outstanding!
Thank you for getting back to DIY. That's what I-M does best!
Thanks for sharing this! Best snorri cam design I've come across!
Thanks for the great tutorial! I made some slight modifications to get a tighter fit, and took it on a mud run. It was a lot of fun, and one guy even recognized the rig from your video! I'm trying my hand at some editing and will have the video posted soon, Thanks again!
man I love this rig!
Cool rig man. Ive been following you for a few months now. So much great tips and DIYs. Glad I came across your videos. :)
I waited all week for this build its awesome... jajaj you should of seen me all day checking every 5 min to see if the video was up already thank you
THAT WAS PRETTY GREAT.
Excellent video as per usual!
gotta luv a good build!
Best DIY rig on youtube.
I'm interested, so I'll keep that in mind for a future episode!
Excellent design! I'll try this for my next race!
This is a great idea! I've been running with my GoPro on a monopod, but your rig is just as steady and leaves you hands free. Very cool.
This is great! Thanks for the idea!
Channahon, Illinois. That's awesome-it was a lot of fun!
Wow, I think that rig is awesome, thanks for the tutorial!
That's pretty cool!
Awesome DIY, the GoPro is just an awesome do anything camera !
Great video! All it needed was the SUPER TIME-LAPSE WOO!
Loved it!
Complete nostalgia trip when the safety disclaimer music came on. I half expected Gary the Puppet to make an appearance.
Indymogul was the greatest Internet show ever to me
Awesome! Thanks so much for all of this! Just made my own! I spend like $9.95 (including paint), but I already had glue at home. Also, I suggest using a pipe cutter. One that has blade and spins round and round to cut PVC. You get ZERO mess, and straight cuts with no waste!
really awesome!
Awesome. I am looking for a angle like this but for surfing 3-4 ft waves. Looks very stable without too much shake or movement especially since you just proved that in a race. I was looking at drones but this angle looks better and way cheaper. Thanks and great job!
I love your presentation style! Congrats on the great work
awesome rig! i'll have to try this, thanx Griffin.
That's really cool!! Great job!
This rig works great! TY
So sweet!!
Very clever + simple ! I've just ordered myself a GoPro3 (Christmas present to myself) - I'll have to try out this technique... Thanks for making the vid !
very cool and effective ! thanks for the idea!
Thanks!
I'm working on one of these right now with a few tweeks. I put a threaded coupling at the top so I could screw on the cap without worrying it would fall off like in the video. For the straps I am using nylon webbing using fasteners and three buckles so I can adjust it and not have to do any stitching.
Awesome video
awesome build man.
Brilliant!
thanks dood! went out to make mine today. came out awesome, even mod-ed it into a backpack. only issue i have is id like to angle the cam down a bit, get a little mor body in the shot. working on that now lol good design, sturdy.
Thanks for sharing... really cool!
putting everyone to shame with your productivity. awesome!!!!!
This is awesome! Just what I've been looking for.
Just made one, came out Great. thanks!
Exellent idea
Awesome rig ill be making one this weekend thanks!!!!!
Amazing tutorial. I've been having trouble designing mine, from sewing it to tactical vests to just ducttaping it to a backpack... I know what i'll be doing this evening!
Woo for another person from the interwebs in IL!!
Thanks for the reply Griffin! You're awesome!
Awesome tutorial, I'm planning to bulid a snorricam soon and this video gave me some great design ideas! If you work with PVC you can save yourself a lot of time and energy by getting a PVC cutter for around 10$ at any hardware store (or amazon).
Good build & footage -
Now I know what I'm doing tomorrow! Great vid.
There are Warrior Dashes all over the U.S., and a couple in Australia.
very cool love the tutorial will really help me in future. keep up the good work!
I wish I had found this video a few weeks prior to the Spartan Ultra World Championships in Sweden. Would have loved to have something like this to give a clearer shot of the course/environment. Thank you for sharing (many years later, still a great DIY project)!
Very cool. I will be trying this one out. Thanks
kudos to you and barbster360... this is fricken awesome!
More of Griffin! I like Griffin!
thanks for sharing! keen to try it out, it looks like just the solution i'm looking for.
Building it now!
This is awesome!! exactly what i was looking for, thanks!!
Thanks for the idea!! I'm gonna make something similar for my paintball games now.
Very good video! Thank you
Great for FPS filming... Nice going Griffin. For me, I will need to a lot of adjust as i'm fairly big build guy.... Thanks for video.
Heading out to the store to get materials now. The only addition I plan on making is adding a wingnut and bolt lock to the the cap fitting so the camera doesn't come loose.
thanks for the great video!!
nice build
Really Cool
It looks actually pretty cool when you are jumping.
Video was awesome .. I run Spartan Races myself and think your creation is perfect for these mud runs... Thank you.. also mountain biking videos will be much more interesting... Right now my friends and I are working on a similar rig for our cars... One that uses a pivot around the trunk area that will allow a view of the car going into a turn..
hey awesome job doing the race. great vid very well done.
I just built and used this rig for filming my Airsoft games. The Video came out well, alittle shaky when running, but overall very watchable :D Thanks for the DIY ideas!
Quality stuff! Telling a story! Thanks muchly.
I like how even corridor is mentioned in this
thanks for sharing ! looks pretty cool for an action shoot
very nice...i will try this, thank for the idea
Just finished my build of this rig and found a couple short cuts. Instead of using elbows, you can use tee connectors so that you can just string the waist and shoulder straps through the rig's frame and getting a better fit from all the straps! I used the elbows and drilled holes into them after the fact. But I'll get a walk through up on my channel soon!
Thanks and very informative.
nice rig man
This helps a lot! Thanks!!!
Thanks! Black paint probably would've been good (and easier to hide on camera), but I wasn't going to buy new paint when I had "midnight blue" laying around.
YOUR BAAAAAACKKK!!!!!!
I got mine at Menards, a discount home improvement store in the Midwest.
awesome!
I made on of these for an event like this using your video. Am up to version 3 now and have made one which can be used while wearing a back pack. I also use screw in fittings for the camera mount exrensions, which is allowimg me to adjuat the height and position of the camera. I just wish it was as cheap in new zealand as it is in america. Have spent on average $100 each mount. Still its well worth it for the added camera angle. Thanks
Buenisimo, me encanta. Great!!!
GREAT!!!! Thanks for the inspiration... !
nice video! thank you very much for the instructions
hi just a tip for the Aussies out there, this shopping list comes to approximately $35 for us. if you buy 25 mm pvc and cheap fittings/parts from bunnings.

thanks mate was just wondering how much it would cost here
I would think a strong enough wave could knock the camera off. I've thought about running a cord from the camera to my wrist or waist in case it falls off. GoPro also makes a bright red floatation device ($15) for the camera so it's harder to lose in the water.
i just made one of these rigs in Australia was so easy to make cost me around $30 cause everything is expensive in Aus lol cant wait to get some awesome action surf shots snowboarding in NZ next season and skateboarding will be awesome thankyou indy mogul :)
Nice!!!!
Very cool - I like the over the shoulder indy cam - I just might try that. Thanks for sharing. :)
