    @@OsirisFilm Well, even with a parfocal lens (most professional cine lenses are), you need a focus puller. Parfocal only means that the the focus distance doesn't change when the focal length (zoom) changes...

    this isn't a movie set that might be in autofocus or pulled by the CCU operator in the control room. Or a said on this thread par focal lens and the smaller sensor helps too, imagine if they had used full frame cameras instead of TV cams.

    Definitely awesome, if you've ever tried a Steadicam rig on you'd know how hard it is just to make it look not wobbly and seasick - let alone segway to the stage and run multiple 360's :-) As for the focus pulling, one thing that helped them is that TV cameras use 2/3" sensors, which provide greater depth of field compared to cinematography.

    Chris, CCU never controls focus, because it's a spatial job; focus is about choosing a 2D plane out of a 3D environment (the real world). A CCU operator can't do that well because he's already looking at a 2D image. A focus puller usually stands aside from the camera to gauge the distance between it and the object.

    Galeere2 plus don't you have to lock certain axis for tilt shots like the transition from the singer to the guitarist? Having a pole you can just rotate makes that easy

  • @Dutch3DMaster

    @Dutch3DMaster

    4 жыл бұрын

    They don't just simply stabilize by locking things, they counteract movement electronically by adjusting motors/servo's, and allow rotation or movement by pushing a joystick-like button. Some of the things the steadicammer is doing by tilting, panning or rotating the arm with the camera on it require motorized action with those stabilizers, and though the really expensive ones probably have quite a range of resolution between no motion and maximum motion, this would be hard to get right (and of course, practice makes everything better, but still, most video footage I see from stabilizers is distinct and nauseating due to how a camera is able to rotate with the help of a joystick-like button and the way the image moves.) That said, this is awesome, but the usage of steadicams has become overrated in something like the Eurovision Song Contest in my opinion.

    Professional TV and Cinema cameras ususally don't have autofocus or it is not used. For what I can see from this video the second man is the focus puller which means he focuses the camera lens manually (looking at screen and turning the wireless follow focus knob). Idk whe he didn't do it remotely though, propably has to do something with reacting faster when seeing actual camera movements. in case you don't know: Focusing is basically setting the distance from the camera sensor at which subjects are sharp (in focus)

    Eurovision 2012 (2013?) just tried the same shot again but with I think a sky-rigged camera or something during Birgit Õigemeel's song. Didn't hold a candle to this shot.

    Me or you we have no idea if the lense was almost totally close or not and how was the light. In the first part of the video, the operator is in the darkest area of the stage at 50 meters from the singer. Obviously, when you start to shoot something from 50 meters and then you got as close as 1 meter, no matter light conditions, your focus CAN'T stay exactly the same. All HF remote designed for 2/3 broadcast rigs have both zoom and focus control for a good reason.

    He was actually on zoom, so don't listen to that other guy. When he tunes the handle on the device, the camera zooms. Not /really/ that important because it was only zoom.

    @iphxxx Have you ever flown, or even worn a steadycam rig? I'm not trying to be a dick here and call you out, but i'm genuinely curious, because even putting it on is hard, let alone operating it. That was damn slick for that move. I don't know if there is anyone who could do it better.

    WRONG. It's 2/3" camera. That kind of camera are designed to have a narrow DOF and in every case you need to have focus (auto focus or focus pulling). Every pro HF remote allows both focus point & zoom.
