How the Police Killed Breonna Taylor | Visual Investigations

Get an email as soon as our next Visual Investigation is published: nyti.ms/3xhj7dE
None of the police officers who raided Breonna Taylor’s home used body cameras, impeding the public from a full understanding of what happened. The Times’s visual investigation team built a 3-D model of the scene and pieced together critical sequences of events to show how poor planning and shoddy police work led to a fatal outcome.

If you're at home watching TV at 12:00AM, it's plausible to not notice/pay any mind to a group of 7 people outside, So you're left with loud knocking at your door with no responses followed by some silhouettes (TV and an outside lamp were the only light sources) breaking down your door. @@amandagold2648 I doubt that "you have the same first name" is any reason for having a similar opinion. Regardless, it's not good policing. It's absolutely terrible. In fact, it's entirely outside of any reasonable justification to talk down to a detained man. She fails her own department's mission statement. Emotional policing is terrible policing. I do not care if she had that readied in her head and she didn't mean to say it in relation to her death. I do not care if she was heated because of what happened. A good peace officer responds with a steady head and professionalism at all times. You cannot convince me that any of this except for the SWAT officers were actually serving the community with the department's values and general professionalism in mind. It's her job to be equitable, respectful, aware, and objective. She responds emotionally and ridiculously to a man who's already surrendered himself and is detained. "And the punk who she has just shot someone she works with, do you really think she’s not upset ." DO YOU REALLY THINK HE ISN'T? After watching his girlfriend bleed out next to him. He's a law abiding citizen. Not a "punk" as you say. He's entirely shattered. Imagine sleeping by your loved one and 3 minutes later she's dead on the floor right next to you. Imagine that. But the peace officer gets a pass with her unprofessional responses while Kenneth Walker ( a man who has no charges against him, a man who is a legal gun owner, who showed more tact in an unknown situation than the officers by shooting to wound unknown gunmen, and who had to watch his loved one die) gets labeled as a "punk". Very logical.

although both police and both suspects in the house had evidence to state that they were the victims, the police 1. blindly fired into the house 2. didnt properly state that they were the police and not intruders 3. and raiding a house without proper equipment (flashlight, body camera, possibly non lethal weapons) firing into the windows WITH the blinds on (detective hankison) could have put the officers in danger thinking that the suspects were shooting back AND could have gotten shot themselves in the process. This was a huge fuckup on the officers on duty in this situation and i believe they need to get charged.

@@CensoredMercy and I have the complete opposite understanding of the police. Anytime I needed the police they treated me like crap and very much criminal, aggressive, dismissive and arrogant. I have been harassed, threatened and falsely arrested. I remember this one time, I must of been around 14/16yo and I was with my younger brother who suffers from asthma and obviously you have phlegm and he had spit and this cop started threatening us, him first, talking about he can put him in jail, telling him to pick it up and I lost it. I let him know that first of all you are not allowed to be threatening minor's and I ended spitting on the ground to let him know I did not fear him. But there has been so many instances where the police and I do not get along and have numerous stories of bad encounters with them. I suffer from ptsd when it comes to the police. My nerves instantly kick in, my hands get sweaty and I always get agitated quickly with them. I do not like the police approaching me for anything. They make me very uncomfortable and I do not trust them.

These are the people who are supposed to protect us if something goes wrong. They get armor handed down from the army and have the latest in tactical gear weapons and armored vehicles. And yet they panic when someone tries to defend their own property because they felt they were being robbed, and the cops turn into stormtroopers.

Even when cops get the house correct, how they can expect occupants to not think they are being robbed? In the midst of all the noise, even if they yelled out "Police!", you think anybody is going to hear that when they've only awoken 15 seconds ago and are still dazed?
