The teaching profession, not just in the USA, but in every corner of the world has become a lower-grade job. In my country Bangladesh, nowadays only the losers who can not secure other jobs elsewhere come to teaching. It is like teaching is their alternative profession. Consequently, we lack good teachers countrywide. Some reasons include low salary, no power exercising capabilities (not even in classrooms, teachers can't even scold bad students, and sometimes students involved in politics humiliate or even physically harm them), lack of social respect, lack of confidence that teachers contribute to a better nation, no acknowledgement for their efforts, and so on. Thus, teaching is just metaphorically a 'noble profession', but in reality, nobody gives any attention to their silent effort to build a nation.
