The Deep State Is Kind of Awesome | NYT Opinion

As America closes in on a major election, mistrust is brewing around the mysterious government entity that’s now denounced in scary-sounding terms - “the deep state” and “the swamp.” What do those words even mean? Who exactly do they describe?
We went on a road trip to find out. As we met the Americans who are being dismissed as public enemies, we discovered that they are … us. They like Taylor Swift. They dance bachata. They go to bed at night watching “Star Trek” reruns. They go to work and do their jobs: saving us from Armageddon.
Sure, our tax dollars pay them, but as you’ll see in the video above, what a return on our investment we get!
When we hear “deep state,” instead of recoiling, we should rally. We should think about the workers otherwise known as our public servants, the everyday superheroes who wake up ready to dedicate their careers and their lives to serving us. These are the Americans we employ. Even though their work is often invisible, it makes our lives better.
But if Donald Trump is re-elected and enacts Schedule F, that could change. He would have the power to eviscerate the so-called deep state and replace our public servants with people who work for him, not us.
In the video above, you’ll meet a few of our hard-working American public servants, and we hope you’ll agree that they’re not scary at all. In fact, they’re kind of awesome.

There's a semiotic misunderstanding here. Much like the term 'woke', the meaning of 'Deep State' has broadened in its use. It's original meaning derives from the derin devlet in Turkey - which was a sort of shadow government operated by members of the intelligence services. When media says that "the deep state doesn't exist" - that's what they're referring to. Trump, however, uses the term to refer to broader institutional corruption, in addition to corporate and industry interests that have influence over legislative and executive government. He will often use it alongside words like 'the swamp'. He's not entirely wrong on that - there is certainly elements of those things at play, but it is a departure from the conventional meaning of the word. As the video points out though, he has increasingly included more and more aspects of the scope of federal government in his definition. This includes well-intentioned and generally apolitical government workers of the type the video features - just regular people trying to do their job. Trump wants to gut the federal government, and these kinds of jobs that do real good in the community and for the planet. So when the video refers to the 'deep state' being 'awesome', its not talking about secretive intelligence services, or corporate pharmaceutical lobbyists - its referencing these parts of the government that find themselves the target of Trump's ire, and undeservingly so.

Meanwhile, the party of the president and his party who rails against the actual "Deep State"? Republicans are its biggest defenders and funders: the CIA/FBI have ironically always been something Republicans have wanted to operate without supervision or transparency and things like the Patriot Act, which allows warrantless collection of calls/texts by the Feds was a Republican law, written by a Republican. The "No" votes were _overwhelmingly_ Democrats. At the time, Republicans called anyone who was against it, or anything Bush passed or being against things like the Iraq War as "with the terrorists". That includes Trump, who despite railing against the Bush-era wars as a "disaster" once the majority of the country, along with tons of Republican-voting hypocrites saying had turned against it, was all for it at the time it was happening. That's why we all roll our eyes that suddenly they're railing against the "Deep State", or are acting like the son of a multi-billionaire was "self made" or the savior of the working class, when the reality is he wouldn't spent five minutes in any of their trailer homes in the flyover states that voted for him.

This isn't going to change any minds, unfortunately. It plays like a puff piece of propagandistic cherry-picking. There's an excellent point, which is kind of buried, about Trump inciting paranoia based on the unknown, but unfortunately the examples are just on way too small of a scale. I imagine everyone in the country could agree that there are currently at least 4 or 5 decent people employed by the government who do helpful things for America. What's missing here is a bigger explanation of why this deep-state notion has been so effective (I believe it's because small-scale government systems are susceptible to chaos and dysfunction generated from innocent mistakes and/or isolated individuals who aren't doing their jobs well; a far-fetched secret ring of bad actors isn't necessary).

Trump is not referring to the average Joe government worker like the ones in this video. (Although, there are plenty that could be let go, as anyone who has worked for a big company knows - there's always a number of employees who do very little actual productive work. Not to mention we are over 30 trillion in debt so maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to trim some of the fat.) But the people Trump is referring to are a select few at the top of certain government agencies. Just a few examples (although people who are paying attention know there are many, many more): these would be the people who allowed the Russian investigation to taint Trump's presidency for over 2 years knowing it was fictional. The people in government telling social media companies what "misinformation" they can and can't allow on their platforms. The people who allowed Hillary Clinton to keep a personal, unprotected router at her house and delete thousands of emails after being subpoena, which if any of the average Joes in this video would have done they would have been fired, fined, and/or imprisoned.

@@adamheuer8502"Every administration" means the administration of a given POTUS (at the federal level, governer at the state level, mayor at the local level) over the four years that person holds office. If an incumbent is elected to a second term, as was President George W. Bush, the 2nd term's administration is referenced as President George W. Bush's second administration. Which is a long way of saying their ultimate accountability is to the voting citizens of the United States. At the state level, 40 of the 50 states hold general elections for their main AGs, meaning they are directly accountable to voters. Most of them are required to be members of the bar for a minimum of 5-10 yrs, and there are a ton of certifications many of them need to possess and renew regarding things as varied as understanding what electronic records they can access and how to do so in a practical, ethical, and secure manner, to the procedural details of a given responsibility, to requirements that demonstrate ability and knowledge re: their respective area of expertise via civil service exams and evaluations by their peers. Each state is sovereign in regard to their AG/AG administration, but it starts and ends with voting citizens. See the recent challenge by Republicans led by 24 attorneys general filed last week by the attorneys general of WV and KY brought against the EPA's new emissions guidelines as set out by the EPA's Administrator for a recent and excellent example of how this works.

QANON, I know this game... In anyway, the ruling Democrats have done a lot of good things for the USA and American interests around the world, but American heroes need respect. It doesn't matter whether the heroes are alive or dead! There are many numbered streets in American cities. There are and have been many heroes in the USA! It's time to rename the numbered streets of American cities in honor of American heroes. Unfortunately, the Great American Nation still does not have a tradition of naming numbered streets after American actors! American fans of these actors are too weak and indecisive to insist on this with rallies, petitions and statements. These fans do not know how, are afraid or do not want to use their constitutional rights and freedoms to show respect to their heroes! Although Selena Gomez, Nicole Aniston, Sofia Carson, Stephanie Scott, Saoirse Ronan, Odeya Rush, Angus Barnett, Martin Ferrero, Mel Gibson, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Stormy Daniels, Joseph Mazzello, Wayne Knight, Ariana Richards, Whiteby Hertford, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, Florence Pugh, Kevin McNally, Mackenzie Crook, Jack Davenport, Jonathan Pryce, Lee Arenberg, Keira Knightley, Jesse Ventura, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, Richard Chavez, Shane Black, Henry Kingi, Kevin Spacey, Gary Oldman, Maywenn Le Besco, Chris Tucker, Olivia Holt, Charlie Creed-Miles, Ariana Grande, Lili Simmons, Adriana Chechik and Emily Ratajkowski support freedom of law in the United States. (You can find confirmation of all the facts in this article if you wish.) The USA is the Supreme Nation, Ruler, Master, Master, Judge and Teacher of all mankind! Therefore, Great America is sowing democracy and freedom throughout the world to liberate all humanity from local dictatorships and lead all nations to a better future. This is not a mission of one day or even a year, but of centuries! Great America should support Ukrainian neo-Nazism so that American taxpayers can freely and proudly shout Nazi slogans after this. Freedom of speech and shouting is a very important constitutional freedom in the USA! (Even Tucker Carlson has no objections here.) Is Gina Carano against American liberalism? Let her be an actress in Russia! You will see how “successful” it will be in the service of the film industry of Putin’s conservatism. I wonder how Tucker Carlson will comment on this! But Gina Carano has simply given up and won't fight for any success because she is not a strong American woman. She is unable to defend the values of modern Ukrainian Nazism and does not want to sponsor it! Gina Carano does not support anti-Semitism. Semites are Arabs and Jews! Therefore, anti-Semitism is statements or actions against Arabs or Jews. If it is only against Arabs or Jews, but not against them, then it is more correct to call it not anti-Semitism! (Then this is already a kind of nationalism, but not anti-Semitism.) Therefore, for the United States not to be the Anti-Semitic States of America, it is normal for the Republican Party to support Jews and the Democratic Party to support Arabs. Semites created the foundations of US Statehood and Great America, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam! (The Founding Fathers of the USA are Semites.) The Prophets Moses, Jesus and Mohammed are Semites and Prophets of Semitism. (The Ruling Families of the Arab States are Semites.) Therefore, it is not normal for real Americans, Jews, Christians and Muslims to be anti-Semitic! Semites are part of the rulers of the USA, Britain and other NATO and EU states. Moreover, Semites rule Russia and Ukraine! Therefore, Russophobia (any policy against Russia and Russians) is a type of anti-Semitism. Putin has done more for the Jews in Russia than any other ruler of this country ever! Therefore, the Republican Party has the right to proudly bear the honorary title “pro-Kremlin.” I would not be surprised to learn that Israel's staunch friend Vladimir Putin successfully asked Donald Trump to recognize all of Jerusalem as part of the Israeli state! But Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson do not consider it necessary to discuss other important issues. (Moreover, do they believe that the American Nation is too rich to be happy? Do they want an economic starvation cure for America to Make it Great Again?) For example, the FBI's proven anti-Black racism as exemplified by the African Human Socialist Party! The ruling Democrats will not allow the further development of racial discrimination against Black People and political views that the head of the FBI does not like (for example, in the USA). Americans, vote Democrat! Do you want to sponsor the fight against racism in the US and the rest of the world? Donate your money to the Clinton, Obama or Open Society Foundations for charity! Buy very profitable fast-growing shares of Seligdar and Boeing corporations (you have to thank the ruling American Democrats for this) to increase your capital. (You can see the links on my channel.) But sell stock turds - the constantly falling shares of Micron Technology (Inc.), for which you will not benefit even with dividends! In addition to this, the USA even used a bomber against American protesters. (Crisis of incompletely working laws.) This cannot be repeated! The same illegal (unconstitutional) action is the dismissal of Chris Cuomo from CNN. The American Nation has the right to investigate this! But Tucker Carlson is unable to conduct a deep investigation - he did not even interview at least one Russian who interfered in the 2016 US presidential election in support of Donald Trump. (Do you understand why?) Chris Cuomo isn't even employed by the Tucker Carlson Show! Therefore, you understand that Tucker Carlson is a very weak ally and support. (Tucker Carlson is a little fact and a lot of words.) Like Donald Trump! Israel is a strong and loyal ally of Great America, so it makes sense for the USA to recognize the Greek island of Crete as part of the Israeli state as soon as possible. (Otherwise you'll end up with anti-Semitism!) Moreover, it's time for Great America to take the coffins with the corpses of pro-American Russians from Russia to bury them in the USA and honor these dead heroes! (For example, in South Dakota.) Moreover, will the USA pay Oleg Shkil two billion dollars as his personal losses from the collapse of the USSR? (This businessman was temporarily arrested in Lithuania and then released due to lack of evidence against him.) But the ruling Republicans are unable to even protect LGBTQ+ Americans from gun violence in the USA! The Republican Party will not do anything against the interests of the American gun lobby, even if it is necessary to save oppressed Americans. Save Americans!

Y'all conservatives said that under Bush, then Obama, then Trump, now Biden. You'd change your tune quick when it was good news, and when it was literally anything else, it was a lot of crap like your comment here. I'm sure if we were to look back, we'd find the same crap was said during Clinton, Reagan, Bush Sr., on and on, from its founding in the 1800s. Don't you conservatives ever get bored repeating the same lines, even amongst yourselves? I guess when *THIS* (re: making up stuff) is your entertainment and nothing you claim ever really happens (again, I've been hearing this stuff for decades now, and that's just the NYT stuff. We aren't even broaching the stuff y'all got bored of, like 5G, the covid vaccine killing us all and critical race theory), just constantly lying to yourself and others around you must be how you convince yourselves to keep going, day by day. No end goal, though. If you're right, and the NYT folded today, there goes America's main paper of record, but you were finally right about SOMETHING! And that's a good reason to keep going! To own the libs or whatever! Well, when you're wrong about literally everything politically, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Keep poking around!
