How much does it cost to service an electric car? Renault Zoe 3rd service 🔌🔋🚗

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Its time to service my little electric car which is the Renault ZOE, this is the 3rd service for the car but the 2nd one I've done. How much is there to service on an electric car you ask, well not much. The brakes show little to no wear and ill explain why this is down to the cars regen braking. This video also applies to the nissan leaf and other electric cars like the i3. However service prices on the leaf seem to be a lot higher from the main dealer. The new ZE40 Zoe can also have a £99 service pack added on from new now!

    I have four Michelin Cross climates on my Leaf and they are superb, used them during beast from the east and during the recent very hot weather. Always good, no loss of range and nothing to change next Winter! Also in my 24kW Leaf the regen works similar to your Zoe, you get lots in B mode but more when you put your foot on the "brake", never had any issues with slipping.

    Yes, bit saving indeed, in relative comparison to other leading companies for the same car, they were quoting an extra £228 over the year.....so yes still a big saving. Off topic, but one question I have for you: Do all the Renault zoe front wipers seem like they are flimsy quality / cause friction on last wipe? I have experienced this with mine, perhaps it's new blades. ps only just bought my EV

  • @NicolasRaimo

    @NicolasRaimo

    6 жыл бұрын

    Sounds like bad wiper blades, take to dealer for new set, short term fix is clean with vinegar. It might also be they polish the front glass and that's causing issues so clean the glass with some vinegar also to remove any polish or "rain x" from the front screen all else fails i can recommend same blades i got with a link. Best way to clean screen and blades is put them in service mode, without starting the car or anything push wiper switch all the way down and they will go to the top and stay there while you clean

    Hey Nicolas, as for tyres, if you got the 16” Michelin Energy Savers - then most likely it is the special-made purpose built for the car. I would not recommend changing the tyre Make/Model as it was designed specifically to help on the rolling resistance. These are super light tyres, I bought my spare rubber from eBay, was about 57 quid with free shipping. Mounting and balancing was about 15. If you have the 17” wheels, it is said that the tyres from the factory loses 10% on the range - this is why the 16” tyres gives you a range advantage. Hope that helps.

    your fine changing the tyres to something like Mitch cross climate or another tyre LONG AS its XL rated. its not that there light its they have VERY low rolling Resistance which is why you get more range as it helps with more regen, there really good in winter also

    It should be noted that the Renault service booking website isn't always correct. My girlfriend has been trying to book her Zoe into Solihull dealer where she got it from for its first service. The website seems to think this is fine, but when contacting the dealer directly it transpires that they aren't doing any servicing at the moment as the buildings are being rebuilt. The nearest alternatives are too far for pick up collection, and due to illness she can't drive that far. Currently waiting for Renault customer service to come up with a solution to this!

    Hello, Recently I got intrested in Electric cars and Hybrids over diesel! Anyways as for servicing a diesel and a Hybrid its pretty obvious they change the filters and oil in the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) but for all electric vehicule ?! what is exactly are they doing ? Idk I don't feel like a full electric car should have a service at all ! Beside The oil in the Brakes pump and the wear and tear in Braking pads there is nothing to be done ! thanks Nicolas i would be happy if you answer me soon !

    Welcome to my channel if you haven't yet please subscribe. The service on an electric car is basically a safety check and a "pollen" filter change. However for some car makes its also a requirement for the warranty however this can be done at a non main agent. Tesla however don't require any service to comply with there warranty terms! However as you said its just fluid checks and rotating tyres :)

    I think your abnormal tire wear is another symptom, like excessive roll, of the real problem. My guess is low tire pressure and something is out of alignment, but it’s hard to tell without knowing if you rotate your tires properly. But to have just outer wear on the left rear tire means something is not aligned, but without knowing the history of the tire wear and alignment, it’s hard to say if it’s a problem with the front alignment that was ignored and the tires were rotated, of if that tire wear occurred while installed on the left rear. It could also be exaggerated by trying to drive a heavy EV as if it’s an F1 car, which will cause both excess roll and excessive tire wear on the outer edges. You also have to choose which tire pressure is right for you. Do you want the highest mileage from the tires (even treadwear), you will need more tire pressure along with tire rotation, such that the front tires get a tiny bit of treadwear from cornering and while on the back they get a tiny bit of excessive center treadwear which balances out during tire rotation. Or you can choose the pressure which gives the best ride on bad roads, and accept early tire wear and less range. Or you can choose excessive pressure which gives less roll and better range, but requires a kidney belt for all passengers. LOL

  • @NicolasRaimo

    @NicolasRaimo

    So the wear on edge is due to the last owner running pressure too low I believe when I change then I’ll have car realigned also

  • @imho7250

    @imho7250

    6 жыл бұрын

    Nicolas Raimo, if you drove 10,000 miles in a straight line, the tires would wear evenly across the tread if they have proper tire pressure, and wear out in the center of over-inflated and wear on the edges if under inflated. But since you do make turns, your front tires will get extra wear on the outer tread, but once you rotate them to the back, which should have slightly more pressure than the case above, it tends to straighten out the tread by letting the center wear catch up to the outer wear. Your left rear tire having abnormal wear indicates there is an alignment problem, such as excessive rear toe-in. Since your car is right hand drive, and you likely drive solo most of the time, the left tire will wear more than the right tire, because the left tire has less weight, less traction, and will be the one that scuffs. What is your front and rear tire pressure you use? And what are the pressures recommended on the door pillars? I can’t find a picture of that label for the Zoe. Normally that pressure is too high, since it’s based on max load per axle. But sometimes they give multiple pressures, at various loads.

  • @NicolasRaimo

    @NicolasRaimo

    6 жыл бұрын

    Zoe on front it states 36psi but thats far too low it needs to be 40psi, all zoe owners get early rubbing if not inflated to 40psi many zoe owners in the RZOC club have tested various pressure and 40psi seems to be correct i do however set my rear at 38psi

  • @imho7250

    @imho7250

    6 жыл бұрын

    Nicolas Raimo, I think the Zoe has 3 tire sizes: (185/65 R15 88Q), (195/55 R16 91Q), (205/45 R17 88H), and in theory the 185 needs more PSI than the 205. Being FWD EV, basically all the driving forces go to the front tires, and the rear tires should be just like trailer tires with no brakes and last forever and wear evenly. Once you get the tire pressure up front high enough to make the center wear as fast as the outer edges, then running them on back with lower pressure would true the, back up, as long as the back is aligned. I’ve also set tire pressure using chalk marks across the tire, driving it, and seeing where the mark wears, then adjusting pressure or toe-in to make it even. Some cars, especially exotics use some aggressive alignment for handling, but it chews tires like crazy. If you have access to one of those old fashioned toe-in checking machines that you simply drive forward enough to get the tires to preload in the direction of toe, and then you get on machine and it lets to tires slide on plates with an indicator. Once you can drive on with no siding, then your tires are not fighting each other, even though they may not be at zero toe-in, due to the camber setting. But once I get my car right, when I get new tires, I tell them not to touch the alignment. If the tires wore perfectly down to the tread-wear indicators, no cupping, no feathering, then anything they do is just going to screw it up. Of course if you have worn ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings, then those need to get fixed, and the process of getting them perfectly aligned and inflated starts all over again. LOL

    Jake guessing you don't own or run an electric car? 95% of all my charging is done at home the 5% i do charge publicly 4% is FREE and the other 1% the MOST i paid for £4.50 even at £15 to charge it would STILL be much cheaper than electric this is because EV's are more efficient to run. Electricity is needed to make petrol/diesel that energy could just be put straight into an EV. I fully advised you subscribe and stick around my channel your learn a lot more but you need to remember prices won't rocket for electric overnight and there always be firms giving it away for free to get you to shop there, electric car chargers are the new nectar or tesco point system its VERY cheap to give you electric if your spending in a shop you wouldn't normally.

    🤣 no still waiting for them to inspect it.... but seeing I reported it called them 3 times and have video evidence here to show it they can’t refuse a future claim

    Actually , heat kills 12v batteries far faster than the cold does.

    extreme heat yes but temps from being under a bonnet of a car just running aux system won't do much

    Have you been rotating the tyres! (between wheels!) Looks more like a camber problem. They shouldn't wear just on the outside edge.

    when i got zoe tyres where under inflated and already going i've extend there life by increasing pressure i shall await for them to go on the front replace them both due to being Misshsaped and then rotate them but only doing 7500 miles a year rotating for me is pointless as tyres will likely crack with age before they wear.

    Nicolas Raimo They should still wear more evenly across the tread if underinflated. You may have negative camber, (toe out at top). Worth checking alignment?

    its common on all zoes running at the set pressure from Renault. Owners running at RZOC recommended psi of 40 have even wear without any camber changes

    sorry but you're wrong. Its the heat that kills batteries not the cold

    I am about to put my 2016 Renault Zoe I in for its 4th year service . This requires draining and replacing the brake fluid. On an average car about twenty minutes? On a Zoe three hours? Price for an MOT and this service will be over £400-00! There really is something overly complicated in the design of the Zoe's brake system and the battery has to be isolated. But EV's ought to be cheap to service. They aren't. It's a Renault rip off where a Zoe is concerned. Last year the third service involved changing the 12v service battery. Renault price for battery £120-00, same battery available £80-00 from most suppliers! Renault dealer rip off! Again.

    As a PS the service plus MOT was over £500! It is a myth that EVs are cheap to service. I have now sold the Zoe and got a 2018 Soul EV.

    Same here. They charge £440 just for the brake fluid change. Totally ripp off. I‘ll going to buy a Tesa next
