I find these sorts of things therapeutic. They’re helpful to relax in bed :) You do your videos however you want. It’s your channel. I’m looking forward to starting my own, and have endless footage, but I want to get so far in the process before putting vids out. But things are slow when you work full time nights and rely on having energy after work to crack on, and the weather when doing external work! Btw, 38 now and noticed a change in energy, even though I’ve never drank or smoked. But sadly I did lose most of my hair by 24, so don’t have to worry about that any more 😅
I want to see it all. Like the old days. I think you need a few more skips though mate 😂 This video was great.
It's great to see this channel growing, Aiden.
if I'm watching you doing it I don't have to think about the DIY I'm not doing :)
Currently doing a full Reno by myself on a Bungalow in Polegate area where a 6 yard skip is £360 :( Bit of a captive audience around that area as Bungalow OAP central so all prices are inflated including Council TAX @ around 2.5K for 2 bedroom yet in suburbs of London a 3 bed house around 1.5K. Fantastic Channel Aiden, don't worry about what video you post it humanises you and the process which I can relate to.

I’m on the driveways and patio landscaping Facebook group, and it’s full of grumpy old experts with nothing better to do than critique and mock other peoples work. With regards to the acer, it looks like it’s dried out for a spell, hence the die back. I would mulch the soil with compost and feed liquid seaweed to help the roots along but go easy on the feed for the rest of the year. Find a more shady sheltered spot for it too. It will come back fine and you will be able to take cuttings or air layerings to make loads of them.

Aiden you will get it done. It’s hard doing it yourself 👏👏👍👍
Don’t get disheartened with the acer. Ours got windburn and knackered all the leaves in previous years but it has come back again this year, although there were a few dead bits. Ours is in a sheltered spot now and as a result seems to be doing better (at the moment anyway). Also wondering if the pot is a little on the small side given the size of your acer. I’m no expert but just a thought. Also.. don’t rely on weed membrane holding nature back completely - weeds will still get through eventually! And once they do you’ll probably be cursing the bloody stuff when all the plastic strands are tangled up. Have fun 😄
Brilliant Do not get rid of your acer it's not dead, it can recover. Don't feed it and don't lop it, wait to see what branches have died off, acers are amazing, feel free to reply if you want some advice on them, it's the killer cold winds that kil the leaves.. Wait till you are 60 standing up hurts ;)
@evieeighteen6780

Oh noooo I’ve just told him to cut off the dead bits! I think it’s a good idea isn’t it so that the plant doesn’t waste its energy on those dead parts? X
@dmbrookfield
2 ай бұрын
@@evieeighteen6780 Yes of course, but if they are dead it can't waste it's energy, the thing is no point cutting them off yet as he has no idea how much will die off, better off just waiting to the end of Autumn and then trimming everything during the winter. It looks like a nice sized acer, so looking at that pot it might be under sized, but now isn''t the time to be repotting it, I would be very careful about feed. Just put it in a shaddy place out of any harsh wind and sun and wait to see, watering is the key make sure it is moist acers aren't great with over watering and then going dry. Patience is a virtue for this :)
I appreciate the skip info. Never hired a skip before. A full run down on it is great. A full hour on a waste management plan I’d happily watch. I could talk for hours about the different ways of handling waste at a minimum cost, in fact with some thought I have managed to recover £800 of value from waste and avoided heavy waste expenses.
Thanks Aiden, I needed this today.
Watching you clear up has inspired me to to do mine too, have so much stuff that just needs chucking or putting back in the right place. There is always something to chuckle about on your videos so keep them coming.

Hey Aiden, keep going mate, don't take any notice of these 'experts' we all come across them in life, they know how to do everything better than everyone else, but generally never do anything constructive. I think like you say they are just unhappy and want to bring everyone down to their level. I personally like to hear what is going on in your life as well as the build. More Arthur please.
Tidying up is an important step.....it opens the mind to new possibilities. And to a perfectionist it makes you feel good inside. Aim for video's like FARMCRAFT101 but first concentrate on getting the house habitable.....or else your missus is gonna leave you. I wonder if the Acer would have been better in the ground. Having rootball exposed to the wind might be an issue. But what the fuck do I know....I ain't no Alan Titchmarsh 41 is young. You can do anything at that age. And you're old enough to not give a shit!! 👍

Hi Aiden, a good tidy up will help with you not falling A over T.... think how stir crazy you would go if you hurt yourself!! 😉
I honestly think you could have the place done - or close - in 18 months if you really start cracking on with the main build and prioritise it. Get yourself a whiteboard, get the jobs listed in an order and start crossing them off! I bet you felt so much better after all that tidying, there’s something very satisfying about just having a massive tidy/clear-out. I wouldn’t worry about the insulation / mouse situation, I had a load of sips panels sat out for a year or so, I think I had one or two panels with a little nibble off an edge, that was it. Keep at it! 👍

The makings of a hoarder 😅
Some KZreadrs have a little intro section. A video montage set to music. I'm not sure if they work, they annoy me sometimes. But some sort of branding is important. Music can be important I think. I watch 'Bricklaying with Steve & Alex' and they have a clever selection of music. I think the dad Steve does the editing.

Apparently intros are a cardinal sin. I used to have one but loads of people would click off the video according to my analytics. I used to spend hours on music, both finding it and editing to the beat but that was in the first couple of years. Ultimately because I didn't get many views I decided it was a waste of my time but maybe it's something I'll add back in the future
I worked in the building trade, and I've seen professional workers doing right shit work at expensive prices. Diy builds are usually more time-consuming due to the fact they put far more time into perfecting the job. As for your time scale, best work is when you're up for it, lol..... When you think what your doing is boring and not worth watching just keep going...... people's lives are shit they want cheering up or to see your lifes shiter than there's lol honest keep it real enjoy what you do and do it when you want. Sorry its a long message lol
Serious question though mate, have you ever considered one of those WorkX schemes to get backpackers to help you with the labour in exchange for board? I saw it on Grand Designs and it really helped the self-builders, freeing them up to progress. I appreciate this is your thing at your pace, but if the real manual uninteresting labour stuff was out of your hands, it would allow you to focus on documenting the bits you do want to do, rather than the boring 'crap', as you put it 😁

And the acer …. Re bloody pot it Aiden! It needs a bigger pot! Poor thing! And cut off the dead bits even if it looks bare-you may be lucky and it may “come back to life”-it’s happened to me before. You sure about the cats Aiden! There are countless of channels that took off only after pets started to appear regularly. Some creators even say it openly that's their cats paying the bills :P Maybe don't show them at the very end, you could do what Rag'n'Bone Keith does, short clips across the video. In regards to what work and what doesn't work on youtube. There are millions of people that watch other people cut grass (like lawn makeovers) and even millions that watch....... cows getting pedicure. I kid you not. I guess it's because it's a little gross but satisfying to see cows walking away happy. Internet is weird. You just need to find your audience! I like your videos: they are very relaxing. I enjoy the random DIY guide as much as the relaxing in the sun bits. Only suggestion I have as a viewer is that I really struggle sometimes to watch 20' long videos. Not because I find them uninteresting but because I've got limited time with all the TV series and youtube channels out there. Also very long videos surely contribute to the low retention. 5 to 10 minute videos would be perfect. Sorry for the long comment and happy belated birthday! You are older than me but you look waaay younger :P

To give your acer the best chance, prune it back to the correct growth points. You can "just lop it off" and it'd probably be fine, but you're stacking the numbers against you. I'd make a video about your specific tree, but you're about 350 miles south. If you wanted, drop me a line and we figure something out. If the name doesn't give it away, I am a tree person, I do videos on trees. I think I meet your criteria of money where mouth is :)
