Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you have been considering microcement for your shower - this video is for you!
In this video, I dive into microcement and how you can use it in a shower versus tile. I share the step-by-step process of applying microcement, the amount of time it took me to get this whole bathroom done, cost, and how to clean. Microcement is durable, versatile, and incredibly stylish. I chose to go this route because of the organic look and easy maintenance.

Microcement is the finish in my Dad's 1948 house. Seems to have been a popular finish in the old days.

Can you explain how you waterproof your bathroom. I’m going to start remodeling my shower and really don’t know from what to start. Thank you so much.

  • @texasdiymama

Sure. It honestly depends on what material you use. Schluter Kerdi board, which is the material I used for this project, is already waterproof on its own. However, the seams are not (anywhere you butt 2 boards together). So for example, in this case the corners and where the shower niche was installed, I had to add modified thin set and kerdi band, which is the product you use to basically seal all seams. I can link the video where I talk about how I did that. Other materials use different products to seal seams, depending on what material you choose to go with. In a shower you cannot use drywall. You need to use something like Kerdi board, cement board, go board, etc.

Beautiful job and you explain it so well! I have done my upstairs shower surround and tomorrow I'll do the second coat on my master bath shower. I used Microtek along with some bigger trowels. Each time I do it, it's different consistence and I do a different technique for some reason.

Thank you! I just ordered microtek because I want to try it to compare! This is definitely a learning process. How are you liking it so far?

@@texasdiymama I loved the first coat. The second coat was hard to put on with the larger trowel I was using (the one that Jenna Sue used). When I started using the 6" trowel like you used (thank you!), it looked better. Overall I am pleased. I may do our bathroom countertop as well. It's a new construction, so I won't be be able to actually use it for a few months.

@@texasdiymama Hi Again! Can I ask a couplequestions about the sealer? 1. How many XS327's did you need to purchase to seal the entire bathroom with all of the coats? 2. Did you do all the coats in one day? I have been dreading sealing and have to do it this weekend! Thanks again!!!

@@theholisticchick2841 Sealing is the easiest part! ☺ You've got this! I used less than 1 set! For the primer coat you will end up with a LOT because it's 1 part sealer 7 parts water. And you can only use whatever you have in an hour. I did a total of 4 coats on the shower walls - 1 coat of primer and 3 regular coats. The rest of the walls only got 1 coat of primer and 2 regular coats. I still have more than half of the cans left. I did it over 3 days. 1st day I did primer only, the second day I did 2 coats, and the 3rd day I did the final coat over the shower walls only. I believe you only have to wait a couple of hours in between coats.
